down a bay area school. why the bug may have already spread we walked by the dean's office and kid were waiting to go home. >> why a bug at a bay area school may have already spread beyond campus. >> a landslide victory for mitt romney of florida but it's what happened after his win that broke tradition. good morning, it's february 1, i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm grace lee. we begin at 4:30 with traffic and weather coming up in just a few minutes but we begin with campaign 2012. as you know, mitt romney won a decisive victory in the florida primary last night taking 46% of the votes. newt gingrich had 32%. and rick santorum and ron paul

were both under 15%. susan mcginnis joins us from tampa. he earned all 50 florida delegates. he has a substantial lead now because florida was a big prize. >> reporter: it is substantial compared to where they were before yesterday so romney sweeps florida gets all 50 delegates leaving him with 87 total the most of all the candidates so far. gingrich has 26. santorum has 14 now. ron paul has 4, something, not nothing. something like 5% of the delegates in this campaign so far have not yet been awarded. and so yes, 95% of the delegates have not been rewarded. florida is so important, such a microcosm of the nation, and it is a winner-take-all state. but remember, this race is

going on for some time and this is going to turn into most likely a fight for delegates and, you know, he has 87 but he needs 1144 to get the nomination. that's a long way away. >> it sure s he has a long way to go. susan. it's interestin romney performed well among women in florida, right? >> reporter: yes. romney did very well among women. he pretty much swept the vote. married women were voting for him. more than half of female voters were with gingrich, less than a third -- i mean with were romney. less than a third were with gingrich. it could be the female vote turning against gingrich because of the allegations we heard during the last primary about his third wife but romney did get the female vote, the married vote, the ethnic vote. he got pretty much everything geographic, ethnic. most latinos.

he got 53% of the latinoo vote. he didn't get the panhandle of florida which is conservative voters. >> i think he broke a long- standing post-election custom. >> reporter: he never called nor congratulated mitt romney on his win. in his speech there was no concession by newt gingrich, there was not even an acknowledgement that he had lost or that romney won. he simply gave a speech that talked about the future and gave it in front of a podium that said 46 more states and all he did was talk about being the nominee and coming back to tampa in august as the nominee. no congratulations, no calls to romney. >> my guess is they aren't going to exchange christmas cards anytime soon. >> so negative. and they changed the song.

school's website. it's explaining why all campus class were cancelled. 50 students called in sick yesterday and then 90 were sent home throughout the day because of this gastroenteritis. the symptoms upset stomach, fever, diarrhea and vomiting. >> you would walk by the dean's office an kids were lined up waiting to go home. >> it's nausea and vomiting. those are the two main symptoms. >> reporter: now, so far this week, 200 students have gotten sick. that's 10% of the student body and according to the the school and the department of public health, the 24-hour virus, they are not sure where it came from. but they have ruled out cafeteria food. and they are also advising students to stay home for 72 hours after the vomiting stops. and now, of course, if it spreads to other facets of the community, a kid who goes home and spreads it to his family, there are an untold number of

family members also sick today. >> thank you. a date rape drug killed a 14-year-old girl in santa rosa last summer. investigators originally thought the girl died of alcohol poisoning at a sleepover she hosted but the sonoma county coroner now said she overdosed on ghb. three other girls also got sick. the press democrat reports that the other girls say they did not know that they were drinking ghb. it is 4:36 now. pg&e customers leery of the new smartmeters may soon have the option of using old-time analog meters. state regulators expected to vote on an "opt out" plan. customers who choose to the analog meters would pay aa $75 one time fee and then $10 a month. low income customers would pay less. some customers have complained

about accuracy, hacking and electromagnetic radiation they emit. oakland city council calls for drastic cuts in the budget slashing millions in spending and eliminating more than 100 jobs. councilmembers approved the plan 6-1 with one abstention. city leaders protected funding for the oakland zoo and the children's fairyland. oakland's revised its budget after learning it would lose $28 million in redevelopment funds. new this morning, several suspects have admitted they tried to blow up the london stock exchange. today four british men pled guilty to being involved in the plot inspired by al qaeda. five others pled guilty to lesser charges. the nine men were arrested in december of 2010. prosecutors said they planned to blow up several prominent buildings. frank ogawa plaza now off limits for 11 "occupy" protestors who were arrested

during last week's violent demonstrations. they were among the 400 arrested saturday. court orders also direct four protestors to stay away from the oakland convention center. protestors will address police violence issues at noon today at frank ogawa plaza. the sheriff of san francisco is due back in court on friday to argue against a court order that he stay away from his wife and 2-year-old son. that order stems from allegations of domestic violence against ross mirkarimi. he is charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness. the city of pleasanton has reached a tentative agreement with its police officers union all in a deal aimed at controlling the city's pension costs. the 2-year deal comes after six months of negotiations that calls for the officers to contribute more to the retirement plans. the plan still needs approval from the city council and it was discussed at the council

meeting last night. >> each of our 73 officers will be contributing $1,000 more each month in pension payments. this is significant and will save the city $2.4 million. >> this comes eight months after the city reached deals wits largest employee union there whose workers also have to contribute more to their pension plans. >> 4:39. kind of drizzly on the roads. >> kind of dewy, wet. how about traffic? >> got steamy on my windows this morning. >> what's going on there? >> it's a little misty out there. there are two lanes open in the new york direction now on the golden gate bridge. obviously, i feel like i should wait for a car. there is very light traffic right now across the span. looks good across the golden gate bridge. there is some roadwork on the lower deck of the bay bridge eastbound 80 from the skyway towards the pay gates. and in the south bay, 280

traffic is moving just fine. if we zoom in on 101, there is roadwork northbound 101 between capitol expressway and story road until 5:00 this morning. for more on your misty steamy road conditions, let's go over to lawrence check on that. >> elizabeth, you obviously had a lot of fun. i got a sad story, folks. we have a dying cold front heading through the bay area right now. >> oh.... [ laughter ] >> it is leaving behind some precipitation, drizzle light sprinkles out there now. you can see it on our camera lens in san francisco. but not a whole lot with this system. so it's going to move through quickly and not much rain left behind. temperatures right now running mainly into the 40s. it is a bit wet but you can see this line that's moving through not very impressive being picked up on the doppler radar right here dragging in through san francisco and the peninsula and that's about it. after that moves on by, we are going to start to dry things out. so another dying cold front swinging through the bay area and then it is going to be long gone and then after that we start to warm up as we head into the next couple of days. today cool though 50s at the

company to go public. facebook is expected to file papers today for an i-p-o. . investors are ready to hit the "like" button on facebook. facebook is expected to file papers today for its big ipo. gil diaz in menlo park with the big boom expected to hit the silicon valley. >> reporter: facebook is going to start process of going public by submitting a securities filing today.

facebook will be the biggest ipo ever for an internet company. analysts that it could be valued at $100 billion and there are little things that we're consider called the facebook effect. realtors around here think that facebook will spark a real estate boom in the bay area. also, wall street with management firms around here salivating at the thought of a hefty payday. >> part of it is everybody understands facebook. this is not a company that's hard to explain or obscure. so when first like this like google go public you have everyone from the everyday mainstream investor to the big institutions interested. >> reporter: now, today's securities filing will bring with it intense scrutiny over the company's finances. the company's revenue in the last half of last year doubled

to $1.6 billion. but its net income was $500 million. also, wall street is going to see if facebook still has the potential to grow even more making investors a lot richer. back to you, frank. >> going to be a hot stock. okay, gil diaz live for us down in the silicon valley. thanks, gil. a big selling point for smartphones are the apps you can download. but a new study shows a lot of folks get them and ignore them. the survey shows 68% of smartphone owners use five or fewer apps on a weekly basis. i'm guilty of that. about 70% of them don't even use the apps at all. one analyst estimates that nearly 90% of apps downloaded are deleted eventually. >> because there are so many new ones to get, that's why. if you have already filed your taxes you might have to wait longer than expected to get your refund. that's because the irs is tweaking its computer systems to help prevent refund fraud. the delay only affects people who filed their tax returns

today. he's accused of ng nearly two back now at 4:48. a former l.a. elementary school teacher will be arraigned today. he is accused of sexually molesting nearly two dozen children. officials say 61-year-old mark berndt blindfolded and gagged the kids and placed cockroaches on their face. the abuse allegedly took place

during school hours at miramonte elementary school in south l.a. an airport security agent is in some hot water. he is accused of stealing ipads from passengers' luggage. he works for the tsa at dallas fort worth international airport where he was recently arrested. he works in a remote room where checked luggage is screened by hand. authorities think he stole eight ipads. >> who are we going to trust? >> another suspect led police to the suspect where he was at home. he is on administrative leave pending the outcome. long security wades could be shorter at san francisco international airport. sfo is adding clear technology a security id program which identifies travelers from fingerprints or their irises so

long security waits could be shorter. members pay an annual fee to register fingerprint or eyeprint and use a special express line. we have some amazing video of two heroes in action in new jersey. take a look. two officers rushing to the scene of a car fire just fully engulfed there in flames. they got the 57-year-old man out to safety finally. how about some traffic? >> let show you a live look at the golden gate bridge. i like this shot because you can see how slick the conditions are outside. so misty to start off so you may want to give yourself some extra time but we could see some cars in one of our "timesaver traffic" cameras. so overall traffic is moving at the limit though across the bay area. eastbound 80 across the skyway

various lanes blocked until 6 a.m. south bay out of downtown on 280, guadalupe parkway is good both fine. 101 roadwork just picked up because we were seeing slowing on our sensors and now it's all gone northbound and southbound 101 between capitol expressway and story road overnight some roadwork across that stretch in san jose but again all the cones have been picked up and all lanes are now open to traffic. otherwise, your bridges look good. here's a live look at the san mateo bridge. so far conditions are light across the span in either direction about a 13-minute drive time out that way. westbound 24, so far no delay all the way through the caldecott tunnel out of orinda toward oakland. same thing with the eastshore freeway. so far, your drive time looks great coming out of the altamont pass. that is traffic. for more on these steamy weather conditions here's lawrence with more on that. >> all right, elizabeth. you know what? we finally got that doppler

working again and we're picking up a little precipitation, not much. that line is making its way in along the peninsula stretching across the bay into the east bay as it moves through. not much to it. that's all we got this time of year and it looks like that's all we're going to get as this system slides by. partial clearing this afternoon, drizzle light sprinkles this morning. temperatures in the 40s and 50s out the door. this afternoon, a little bit of sunshine and cool numbers, plan on 50s and 60s. if you want to see changes after this system moves on by as early as tomorrow, low pressure passing through for today bringing with it that cold front and light sprinkles out there but high pressure going to build in behind it. and that means we're going to warm things up. here's your cold front sliding through this morning moving on by. then behind that breaking up clouds and bringing a little sunshine into the bay area with a few passing clouds and then it looks like fairly dry as we head in toward the next few days. temperatures working outline like this. plan on about 61 san jose today. 50s in toward pacifica.

59 degrees in hayward. as you make wear to the east bay, looking good. 60s in most spots and dry toward the afternoon. 59 in vallejo and about 60 degrees in napa. inside the bay, we're looking your opinion in the 50s and also the low 60s by the afternoon. and looking out over the next couple of days, looks like a return to dry weather, offshore winds kicking in, temperatures warming up although it doesn't look as impressive as before so we'll keep those down a bit but still mild on friday, saturday and the weekend one change. the computer models starting to try to draw more rain in on tuesday very iffy on that. usually when they start to try to introduce something like that by tomorrow we may have to take it out. >> a lot of things iffy about you. >> especially at this time of the morning for all of us. >> us too. all right. thank you. the country's largest breast cancer charity is cutting ties with planned parenthood. the susan g. komen for the cure will stop donating hundreds of thousands of dollars for planned parenthood. komen says there are new rules that prohibit the charity from giving money to groups under

federal investigation. there is a congressional inquiry into whether planned parenthood spent public money on abortions. a major drug company is recalling millions of packets of birth control pills. pfizer is recalling 14 lots of low val 28 tablets. those as well as some generic pills. k says the packaging error -- pfizer says the packaging error could raise a problem. it raises the risk of unintended pregnancy. a palo alto police officer has plans for vacation this year. that would be officer ben lee from san jose. he will be the only coach of the u.s. olympic badminton team on the way to london. 20 years ago, lee was captain of the first u.s. olympic badminton team and since then he has been a volunteer coach, most recently at last year's pan am games. the 46-year-old lee thinks being a cop can help him be a coach. >> i think it's the discipline,
