we know the final official results for the nevada caucus. but early results point to mitt romney as taking the win. and kcbs radio political reporter doug sovereign is in las vegas where he has been watching the caucuses all day today, doug? >> reporter: good evening, ann. that's right. based on what we saw at the caucus places we went to today, mitt romney will win here and win big. but not everybody is done voting. there is one more caucus meeting at 7:00 for religious voters who could not vote earlier today in clark county the las vegas area. clark county accounts for 70% of the state. so we won't really have meaningful statewide results until that caucus is over. all morning long, perhaps 50,000 nevada republicans went to local precinct caucus meetings to elect local delegates and cast ballots with their presidential preference. before the voting, people got up to speed on behalf of the chosen candidates, trying to convince their neighbors to

vote for a certain candidate. and the ballots were cast. at the caucuses we went to, about 60% were for mitt romney. why? many voters told us that they think he's got the best chance of winning the election. >> i think that is the number one issue with this campaign for the republicans, who is beat barack obama? and replace him in the white house, and bring some fiscal sanity to this country and bring a businessman to this crisis that we have with jobs and the economy. and i think mitt romney is the man. >> reporter: now, we've got a happy crowd of romney supporters filling this hotel's ballroom for what they will assume is a romney victory party. we don't expect the governor until 8:00 when we she know the dimensions of the victory and whether newt gingrich and ron paul finish second. >> you talked about the religious voters and we heard about the mormon vote in nevada. how significant really is it? >> reporter: it is significant. according to the entrance

polling data that we have, about a quarter of the voters going into the polls today were mormons. and almost all of them voted for mitt romney. well into the '90s in percentage. voted for romney. that may account for half or slightly less than half of the total vote. he was running very well with conservatives and tea partiers and people who just want to beat barack obama in november. >> doug sovereign in nevada for us, thank you very much. and rick santorum and ron paul are bypassing the nevada caucuses, both are campaigning in states that have upcoming primaries and caucuses. rick santorum campaigned in colorado today. saying the state is, quote, wide open. and ron paul is putting a heavy emphasis in minnesota where he appeared today. nd he has four more appearances planned there ahead of next tuesday's caucuses. well, a special education teacher has been arrested in redwood city for allegedly abusing two 4-year-old boys. 44-year-old alexia bodkis surrendered to police this morning. she teaches at roosevelt

elementary school. police say the abuse was physical and occurred over the past few months. she teaches developmentally disabled and autistic children. a dozen people living in fremont were forced out of their homes overnight. after a water main break. they have all since been allowed to return. crews were testing the six-foot pipeline around midnight when the line burst. the backyards and the garages and interiors of homes were flooded. the department of water resources says they will work with homeowners to fix damaged property. the numbers say one thing but reality says another. the labor department says unemployment has dropped nearly 1% since august. but that's little consolation for people still looking for work. and anne makovec shows us the one stop shop that is helping people get over -- get the proverbial foot in the door. >> there are jobs out there. you got to want it. >> and george loss. >> pretty much i would like to work. for an honest dollar. >> reporter: his life has been

a bit offtrack. the uncle of hiram lawrence, the oakland toddler killed in a gun battle late last year. after a month after hiram was taken off life support, george lost his job. >> i will try to reverse a negative into a positive. >> reporter: he is here at the eight weeks jobs program for those who have fallen on hard times from homelessness to drug and alcohol abuse. >> i'm in recovery now. and i used to bartend and i can't go back to my old work. >> loretta scott needs new skills to compete in a tough job market. >> people have good jobs that are oust work, you know. and me coming from the restaurant, and the bartending industry, it is not -- >> it is intimidating. >> it is. >> reporter: yesterday, the january jobs report was surprisingly positive. unemployment fell to 8.3%. the lowest in three years. it has been dropping for five straight months. and the first such stretch since 1994. >> the hope that they have is to be able to gain the

quite a pretty penny, too. how much we're all expected to spend to watch the super bowl. plus, a more traditional site this time of the year. the wallop of snow that stopped the midwest in its tracks. it is so beautiful across the bay area. we have seen plenty of sunshine. not bad for the middle of winter, right? >> pretty big changes before the middle of the week. we will tell you all about it coming up.

tomorrow, san francisco s looked ahead to the while new york giants fans get ready for the big game tomorrow, san francisco giants fans looked ahead to the upcoming baseball season. tens of thousands of people came out to at&t park for the team's annual fan fest. the fans were allowed full access to the field, dugout, and the clubhouse. and activities for kids included taking swing at the stadium's batting cage. but it was the autographs that prompted some to camp out overnight. >> we got here about midnight, 1:00, and freezing cold. very exhausted. but now that it is close to

time to go in, it is like well worth the wait. >> all right. fredy sanchez, and others attended after season-ending injuries last year. if you're watching us right now, chances are you don't have tickets to the super bowl tomorrow. and that's a good thing. at least for your bank account. then again, as manuel gallegus shows us, people who are not even going to indianapolis are spending big to be part of the big game. >> go giants! >> reporter: what would you pay to feel like a giant? or a patriot? >> this is my linebacker. this is my running back. >> reporter: for these buddies, dropping thousands to be together in indy for the big game is worth it. >> i'm 67 years old. the first time i'm going to the super bowl. >> what do we have going on here? >> reporter: head to toe in giants gear, jeannie was too polite to tell us what she spent. >> let's say we're going into the college fund now. >> reporter: and how about paying $7,000 for a pair of seats? >> it is not cheap, is it?

canard cruise lines quine elizabeth docked in the city for the first time, and take a look inside. the ship's maiden call is part of a four-month world cruise. and original queen elizabeth ship visited san francisco in 1942 and came for war time retrofitting. san francisco could be losing a piece of prime waterfront property in its quest to host the america's cup. the report shows the city agreed to hand over pier property to a development group by the oracle founder randy aleson and in exchange, the group would partially cover the cost to recondition some of the city's piers. as of right now pier 29 and others would be leased to race organizers. the final draft will be reviewed by supervisors on tuesday. midwesterners are bracing for the biggest winter storm of the season. it has moved across iowa. and drew levinson shows us how people in colorado and nebraska are bigging out.

>> reporter: nebraska got slammed saturday. as the massive winter storm sweeping across the plains paralyzed part of the state. in grand island, about an hour and a half west of lincoln, plows were out in full force. trying to keep the roads clear. 8 1/2 inches of wet heavy snow fell saturday night and into sunday morning. it stuck to trees and made for a beautiful picture, but in several area, the weight was too much for the branches to hold. broken limbs filled front yards and blocked power lines and roads. >> part of this tree crashed on top of a pick-up truck. many people spent the day digging out their cars. and clearing driveways and parking lots. in hard-hit colorado, where the storm wreaked havoc the day before. the state's main highway, interstate 70, is open again. police had shut down much of it from the kansas border, to

denver thursday. ron hopwood was stranded for two nights at a motel in the town of lineman. >> we were in florida, coming up. and thursday night, the fog got so bad, we pulled over. >> the heavy snow soon followed leaving up to six feet into the rocky mountains foothills. the storm is slowly moving east. dumping snow and causing headaches in its wake. drew levinson, cbs news. >> if you've planned to fly this weekend, and have a colorado connection, you can rest easy, flight schedules and denver international airport are returning to normal. and airlines canceled for than 600 flights there thursday and friday. and it looks like nothing but blue skies and elizabeth wenger joins us with the forecast. and it is incredible how nice the weekend is. >> and expect the same thing tomorrow. we will see kind of a repeat. and the temperatures outside right now, not too bad. check out the vallejo area, 59. and 65 degrees still in oakland. we did climb up to the upper 60s in a lot of parts of the bay area.

for tonight, the temperatures will get a bit cooler. mostly in the mid-30s to 40s across the bay area. and clear, and cool, and so once again, for much of the week, we will see kind of cool nights and some pretty pleasant temperatures at least tomorrow. and plenty of sunshine once again. and the temperatures climbing in the upper 60s. mid-60s in some parts along the coast and once again, not too bad. and temperatures today a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday. so taking a look at your future cast over the next 72 hours, clouds roll in on monday and by tuesday, 3:00, we are expecting rain showers. we are seeing a low pressure system move. in and now the wet weather is going to be pretty short-lived. it looks like it is just sticking around for tuesday. and if you're having some outdoor plans for tomorrow, once again high pressure is pretty much the name of the game. once again what we saw today, you can expect a repeat for tomorrow. and so nice weekend shaping up across the bay area. your overnight lows, mostly in the 30s. and 40s. it is going to be a pretty brisk night. and 42 in san rafael. and 41 in vallejo. and 39 in concord.

and check out livermore, going to be 34 degrees tonight. and your pinpoint forecast for tomorrow, we will see lots of sunshine, and pretty nice day across the bay area. too bad everyone will be indoors watching the super bowl. and 65 in napa. and 68 is your forecasted high in santa rosa. and check out san jose. and mountain view. and coming in, in the upper 60s. and close to 70. in a lot of spots. so here is the look at the forecast over the next few days and sunshine is in the forecast for sunday, and monday, a few more clouds roll in and temperatures dip by a couple of degrees and tuesday, it is going to be the big changer there, by the middle of the week, it looks like we could see rain moving into the north bay, by sunrise, and then moving and spreading across the bay area, by the middle of the day, and then like i said, that rainmaker is not going to stick around for very long. and sunshine, mild temperatures, through the end of the workweek. >> it seems like tomorrow will be the day for it to rain. everybody will be inside. >> watching the game. >> hopefully you got to enjoy it today and got your hikes in. >> yes. >> and tomorrow's the big game. >> and who are you picking?

for arizona state. they dug an early hole against arizona on thursday. but that wasn't the case this afternoon allen crab drills a three. and cal jumped up to an 11-0 lead. the sun devils shot 38% and committed 20 turnovers. crab is set up for the lay-up. 19 points for crab. cal led 34-16 at the half. and second half, camp drives and finds the walk-on. robert thurman, for the easy jam. the bears blow out arizona state, 68-47. to improve to 18-6. johnny dawkins team going for a sweep of the arizona schools. first half, salmon hill with a cross-over and finishes strong with the left hand. arizona led by one at the break. stanford shot a season low 25% but they pulled even at 35 after this nice little move by josh owens. final minute. up seven. chayson randall falls down. arizona comes up with the loose ball. and nick johnson puts the
