in high definition. good evening. grammy award winner, whitney houston has died. her publicist confirmed her death this afternoon. entertainment website, tmz is reporting houston was found unresponsive in her room at the beverly hilton hotel in los angeles today. her interage apparently called 911. tmz says she was pronounced dead at 3:55 this afternoon. houston sold more than 170 million albums. several hits, including how will i know, saving all my love for you, and i will always love you. houston had a well publicized battle with drug addiction, but worked on rebuilding her career. whitney houston was 48. >> a 21-year-old man was killed in a drive by shooting in pleasant hill last night. it happened just after 10:00 last night near the 200 block of devon shire court. the group of people when several shots were fired.

the suspects were in a blue saturn view, no one else was hurt. a 77-year-old woman was hit by a car. it happened in the area of oakland and rock avenue. the woman was rushed to the hospital where she later died. she is the second pedestrian hit by a car in san jose in less than 12 hours. around 8:30 last night, another woman was hit by a car. she died at the scene. the identities of victims have not been released. drivers in both accidents stayed and cooperated with investigators. >> traditionally, the jobs have been filled by teens looking to make summer cash. but hundreds of people of all ages showed up at a job fair at six flags in vallejo today. the park is looking to fill 1300 positions for the summer and as ann shows us, among that crowd are some adults desperate for work. the line stretched around

the building. almost a thousand people hoping to work at six flags discovery kingdom. >> a lot of people out here. >> among the hundreds of teenagers, the usual hirees, there are people like scott anderson. >> i have a degree and certificates and everything else, and here i am. >> and joe hoping for a job. >> anything they give me, i'll shovel up animal turds if i have to. >> not his first choice of work. >> i have 15 years of trade. but when the economy kind of took a dive, i couldn't find anything. i lost my job. it's been real tough. >> while the numbers of out of work adults increase, so does the competition for typical teenagers. >> i've been looking for a job since 2010 and i'm 18. i'm going to be 19 pretty soon. my age group has not had any

people are warming up for this parade, eventually it will stretch across san francisco. right now, it's kind of controlled chaos here at the beginning as people line up to get out of here. before the night is over, we'll see about 100 units of just about every kind for the year of the dragon and of course, lots of fireworks for fire crackers and one big dragon in particular. 250 feet long takes 100 people to manipulate and get it across town. now, a lot of folks say that san francisco's event is as you said, one of the largest of such event in the world and we can believe that when you see people that are down here tonight. it dates back to the gold rush. we're told when chinese americans were actually, wanted to show off their culture and share with other people. they began the first parades. it included other people, of course. it's not just for asian americans or chinese americans. it's for just about everybody. certainly a huge straw for san francisco and really a good

to the bathroom. students at the high school have nowhere to go these days. as in, to the bathroom. the restrooms have been locked since last year. the principal is not saying why, but a school district

official says it's because of graffiti. only one boy and one girl's restroom has been opened, but this week, a second pair was unlocked. the school has 1400 students. the locked restrooms may violate the state's education code. >> the 54th annual grammy awards will be broadcasted live right here on cbs 5 tomorrow. tonight, a couple bay area locals are getting ready for their 15 minutes of fame and they are among the nominees. elizabeth cook introduces us to local musicians headed to the industry's biggest night. >> paul usually doesn't put too too much thought into his haircuts. he is getting from time to primmed to rubble bows. one of his music teachers. >> he said, you are nominated for a grammy. i said, oh my gosh.

that's crazy. that's nuts. >> paul is nominated for best small ensamable performance for his work on the kingdoms. a collection of spanish, italian, and latin american music alongside his mentor, who recruited paul to be part of the project when he was still a student at the san francisco conservatory of music. >> a great guy to bring on this, because basically he likes to run a muck. >> he got to run a muck at one of the most prestigious studios on the planet. sky walker ranch. the elusive compound of star wars creator, george lucas. >> you drive into this heavily wooded area and the gate that opens very slowly and then you go into the security and you ask you why you are here. they don't say too much information and you keep driving and there's a vineyard. there's a pool, a spa.

department has rel a powerful message from the san francisco police department. the department has released a video showing officers getting personal. their goal is to stop teen suicides in the gay, lesbian, and transgendered community. it's the first video of its kind from a law enforcement agency. their message to struggling teens, it does get better. >> nobody deserves to be taunted or bullied. i can't even imagine what it's like growing up as a teen today. >> i was a bit of a tomboy. a full fledged tomboy. >> it got awkward and strange for me, because i was a girl then and i had to start trying to act like one and look like one. >> my girlfriends would be checking out the guys and i would be checking out the girls. >> i had close friendships with my girlfriends and was hiding from my senior prom date. >> never someone i could talk

to because i thought i was different. >> i would say by the age of 5, 6, i already knew that i should kind of keep it on the down low. >> at times where i didn't want to get up and get out of bed or face the day. >> my self-esteem was really low. >> i think that i wanted to not be around. >> i thought of suicide. i was depressed. >> mostly the message was that there was something wrong with me and i should just die. >> it does get better and until it does, we here in the san francisco police department are going to stick up for you. believe me. it gets better. >> and the san francisco police department teamed up with the it gets better campaign to support gay and lesbian youth. san francisco giants also made a similar video last year. they were the first professional sports team to participate. well, banana sam is back. the squirrel monkey was stolen

from the san francisco zoo new year's weekend. sam has been quarantined for a month after he was found in some bushes near the zoo. police say the investigation into his kidnapping is still open. zoo visitors who bring a valentine to welcome sam back this weekend will get a dollar off admission. let's check in with elizabeth to see if there's rain in tomorrow's forecast in case you are heading to the zoo. >> what do you get a monkey for valentine's day? >> i guess you get them a banana. >> that would make sense. let's head out the door. these are your current conditions outside. as don knapp showed us earlier, it's a nice night. now overnight, we could get a few more clouds roll in and some fog, some patchy fog in our inland valleys. temperatures aren't going to be too bad. a little on the chilly side. mostly in the upper 30s to low 40s for coast, bay, and inland. for tomorrow, we're going to see partly to mostly cloudy

skies. for the bulk of the day, a cloudy day, but peeks of sunshine across the bay. mostly temperatures in the upper 50s. we could squeeze out a few low 60s as well. so, yes, as ann mentioned, future cast. overnight tonight, we are staying dry. clouds, mix of fog and clouds and sunday evening, it looks like between 6:00 and 8:00, we could see rain move into our forecast. it is just going to be light rain, but then looks like it's going to stick around through monday. leaving monday unsettled. the monday morning commute could be a wet one. pinpoint forecast, overnight lows, mostly in the upper 30s to low 40s. 43 in vallejo. 40 in concord and 47 is your overnight low in san francisco. and once again for tomorrow, partly to mostly cloudy skies for the bulk of the day and rain showers by the evening. and temperatures are going to be mostly in the upper 50s. a lot of spots could squeeze out a 60 or a 61 if you are down in san jose. 61 in concord. so, once again, looking out

over the next several days. on sunday, partly to mostly cloudy skies and then by sunday evening, we're looking at around 6:00 to 7:00 is when we are expecting the light rain to move through and it remains unsettled through monday through most of the day and through the system on monday, it looks like we are drying out for the remainder of the workweek. kim, let's check in on the world of sports. >> thanks liz. former cal star remains at the top of the leader board, a stanford man is on the move. all the highlights next in sports.

former cal star charlie wi s kim is smart. she was at pebble beach when the weather was good. >> i was there, you could have worn shorts. had to put some sunscreen on, it was crazy. it's tiger's first pga event. charlie is 18 holes away from his first career pga win, but some big names breathing down his neck. here is dennis o'donnell with more. >> hello everybody. tiger woods rounds 68 in his first two. gets to 67 today and what a heck of a leader board. bill murray savoring last year's win with a cookie on w his picture on it. he started on the back nine and the birdie train began to roll. the uphill put on 15 to push

him to 8 under. then on 17, another uphill put that hits the bottom of the cup for another birdie. tiger's fortune was rubbing off on tony romo. from the puck on 17, romo for a birdie. isn't bad at all. phil mickelson posted a 65 yesterday. he sank a birdie put to move 9 under for the tournament and is in contention. he is six shots off the leader. shot a 69 and is 15th under for the tournament. >> i have gone through two news conferences. you have been in the position where you have been a third ground leader. you are more mature now. why do you think you can win this tournament tomorrow? >> i turn 40 this year and i have two beautiful kids and i don't know what it is. i feel like something turned and i feel a lot more comfortable. >> i think i'll be in a group in front of charlie. not too far behind me.

i need to get off to a good start and that's the first six, seven holes. you know, that's where it can be had. >> i saw you glancing at the leader board at 18 and you won here. now you put yourself in a position to win. how does it feel? >> it feels great. now i know that i'm quite a few shots back. i'm five or six shots back, but i also know that this golf course, you could come out and get a quick start, make some birdies. i bet i had 50 last night that said you're going to play the easy one tomorrow. to me, there's not an easy one. you have to figure out, let everyone finish the first three days and see where you are. because you can catch pebble on a good day like we did thursday and catch pebble on a day like yesterday or today and it's a different ball game. >> charlie wi in second place. what a leader board is shaping up. tiger woods is there, charlie wi is there. it could be a cal versus
