>> a little girl caught in the middle of gunfire. the body of whitney houston back in new jersey. the new details we're learning about the singer' death. the rain is gone, fog in the bay area. when might we see more rain? we'll talk about it coming up. >> roadwork this morning across the bay bridge and a stretch of highway 130 closed. >> happy valentine's day, everybody, tuesday, february 14. good to have you with us. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm grace lee. vallejo police are trying to learn what led to a shooting that put several people in the hospital. a little girl was the victim of a running gun battle on a nail salon at 1800 block of springs road. gil diaz reports. reporter: good morning. a sergeant on the premises said there are five victims all of them in stable condition except for that little girl, she is in

critical but stable condition. it happened right here at tina's nails. it ganged began around 7:00. a man was going after a customer but shot anyone who was in the store at the time. the gunman left the store but the intended victim, one of her friends also a man, went after the gunman and started shooting back at him. that's how neighboring businesses got caught in the crossfire. the three victims were in the nail salon, rushed to the hospital. but apparently, there were more victims. >> contemporaneous to the crime we had additional folks show up at bay area hospitals with gunshot wounds. during this time we confirmed they were related to this event so we have five or possibly six people shot out here. >> reporter: and we're also learning this morning from the

sergeant who i just spoke to a few minutes ago that it's fair to say that at least two gunmen, they have one in custody but didn't say which one that was, the one who went into the store or who fired back. you're taking a live look at neighboring businesses. one owner said they weren't here, their store was closed when it happened. they are cleaning up from the crossfire from last night. but information -- police still need information from other witnesses. if you have information, contact the police. back to you. >> thank you, gil. a home invasion suspect lost his gun and then his life in antioch. his door was kicked in last night. the rest didn't started fighting with the intruder. the victim was able to take the suspect's gun away from him and shoot him several times.

the intruder died at the scene. no one he is was hurt. investigators say they will keep digging until the remains are found. that's the word from san joaquin county one of the area being searched for human remains leaved to be there more than a decade. many of the bones or bone fragments were found in a 45- foot-deep well. an inmate and childhood friend are believed to have killed a number of people in the '80s and '90s. the well is a few miles from where the suspects grew up. the body of pop singer hughes shoes in her home state of new jersey. a hearse delivered the body to a newark funeral home last night. meanwhile in los angeles county authorities say houston was under water and apparently unconscious when she was pulled from a bathtub saturday in a beverly hills hotel room. they said she had prescription drugs in her room but not an

unusually large amount. coroners investigators say the cause of death will be determined when the toxicology results return in a few weeks. >> when we find out, we will be in contact with beverly hills pd. but first, we'll also be in contact with the family and give them our findings. >> two anonymous sources telling the "associated press" a funeral is planned for friday at newark's reduction prudential center, the home for the new jersey devils. meanwhile, fans in southern california continue to pay tribute to houston. last night's candlelight vigil at l.a.'s leimert part evolved into a celebration of her music. the fate of a bay area healthcare facility will be decided today. the burlingame long-term care facility is seismically unsafe and no locker up to code according to the county health system. if it's closed as many as 200

slight chance, of a few showers late tonight and early tomorrow morning. then that moves on out. thursday looking good, warmer temperatures coming our way and now looks like we'll keep things dry for the better part of the week. elizabeth has traffic. >> that's right. none of us could escape the cheese today. we're all wearing red and pink. there is snow up in mount hamilton and they have closed a stretch of road leading there. so highway 130 is closed. sounds like about a half mile east of quimby road so that's where it's closed in both directions because of snow. south bay looks good including out of downtown san jose. this camera is not broken. everything is moving at top speeds this morning. traffic is light so far heading out of downtown san jose on 280, 101 and the guadalupe parkway. all cars moving up to speed this morning and so far things look great towards the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see just a few cars

there heading towards the pay gates. coming up a check of roads, drive times for the east bay and mass transit. back to you. >> thank you. police in santa cruz looking for two escaped female inmates. a 20-year-old and 22-year-old escaped from the blaine street women's fa stilt yesterday. both were wearing bright red jail clothing. marko was held on suspicious of underaged drinking and beus for under the influence. they are not believed to be arms. a uc-berkeley police officer did not break the law when he broke the finger of a protestor on campus. that's what a federal jury in san francisco has decided. the case is from 2009. the officer ordered the protestor to take her hand off a barricade separating police and protestors. he broke her pink finger with the baton when she put her hand

back up on the bar code. the damage could be a million dollars at a richmond elementary school that was set to open. the auditorium was flooded, paint splattered on walls and floors and windows broken. it's happened before. this is the second time it happened. they said hey, you thought we were playing last time? we're serious. this is happened before. not to this extent but this happened just six weeks ago. >> so far there are no suspects but there is a $10,000 reward. state officials are looking more closely at pg&e's pipeline safety practices. the new scrutiny comes after two welders claimed defective welds in some lines. the state public utilities commission says it is it has already checked earlier claims of pipeline leaks but found no problems. the safety of the lines was questioned after the deadly san bruno explosion in 2010. united nations commissioner for human rights has a warning about syria saying the middle east nation could be on the

brink of civil war. opponents to the government of president assad say syrian forces renewed their assault on the city of homs. it's believed hundreds of people in syria having killed in the past few days. president obama heading to california for fundraisers in l.a. and right here in san francisco. that will feature some live music. tomorrow in l.a., the president will hear a performance by the foo fighters. they won five grammys the other night. thursday he heads to san francisco. he and his supporters will hear music by chris cornell the former front man for sound guard. today the man who is likely to be the next leader of china will meet with president obama at the white house[ non-english language ] is currently vice president and will be president next year. today's meeting comes less than a month since mr. obama had tough words for china on trade. he is forming a new agency to

have some dense fog so watch out for that early on this morning and chilly temperatures in the 30s and 40s. by this afternoon, lots of sunshine coming our way, temperatures up in the 50s and also the 60s. a little bit warmer and seasonal for today. this guy wants to drop down tonight and tomorrow and could bring sprinkles and showers, not much to it. but at least a slight chance overnight for tonight. and then that moves out of town. and we dry things out. here's your day today looking good. a lot of sunshine around the bay area just a couple of passing clouds and there's the weak system dropping by overnight late tonight into tomorrow morning possibly bringing a couple of sprinkles. how about those temperatures today? they will be running up into the 50s at the coast, some 50s and 60s into the south bay, east bay temperatures up as high as 60 degrees in pleasanton, 59 in concord. and 61 degrees in the napa valley. inside the bay, you're look at 50s for the most part maybe about 62 degrees in santa rosa.

next couple of days looking partly cloudy toward tomorrow. offshore winds kicking in on thursday warming up temperatures nicely. friday clouds return a bit. temperatures cool off into the weekend. best chance of some rainfall coming now late sunday night into monday. let's check the roads on this valentine's day with elizabeth. >> that's right. thanks, lawrence. we are going out towards the golden gate bridge. they haven't done the lane change yet and traffic is fines across the limit. across the span headlights southbound. the ride on southbound 101 to san rafael, everything is in the green so far including our major drive times across the east bay. down the eastshore freeway no delay. westbound 580 looks great out of the altamont pass. everything is on time for bart. all trains right on schedule including those heading into
