lena bay. they are looking at that second person all this time by water and also by air but authorities are also wondering whether there is a second person after all. the one woman they have in custody who was a peak in that boat has been changing her story according to authorities. she first said that said the driver of the boat walked away and left her behind and then the second story is that she actually happened to be just be walking by and called 911. so the rescue efforts continue to look at that second person. they are still wondering whether that second person actually exists. it seems like the bottom of the boat is wiped out as well as the back is damaged. so they are questioning that woman right now. according to authorities, that

woman did appear to be intoxicated so we'll see just how far that questioning will go. >> thank you. meanwhile, the highway patrol is looking into a car accident that killed two people on interstate 880 in san lorenzo. the crash happened about 11:30 last night just south of his spearian boulevard. most northbound lanes were shut down for about three hours. but all are open again this morning for the commute. new firefighting crews will replace those who have worked all night in napa county. they are tryingcontain a wildfire burning in the soda canyon area north of napa. soda fire broke out around noon yesterday when embers from a control burn were blown into nearby vegetation. firefighters rushed to protect three homes that were threatened. they say the homeowners helped by having plenty of defensible space around their homes. there have been no injuries. the fire is 50% contained at

this hour after burning 40 acres. three fire departments may merge into one. redwood city, san carlos and san mateo county have three separate stations within close proximity to each other. and it's estimated that each city in the county could save about a million dollars each if their departments were consolidated. the san carlos city council will discuss this idea on monday. it is 4:33 now. no damage or injuries from the latest earthquake felt here in the bay area. it was a magnitude 2.4. it hit at 11:49 last night. the epicenter was in the bay near brisbane. a few dozen people reported to the usgs website that they felt it. most of them were on the northern part of the peninsula. san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi goes to court this morning for the start of his domestic violence trial. a judge expected to be assigned to the trial today. then the judge will consider pretrial motions. earlier this week mirkarimi's lawyer moved to disallow some

after lawrence, elizabeth. >> i can't keep up. it's now 4:35. experts are working to identify more human remains that may be victims of the "speed freak" killerses. cadaver dogs helped searchers find the remains in calaveras county. they were on land once owned by wesley shermantine's family. it's the first place remains connected with wesley shermantine and loren herzog were found earlier. the bounty hunter who got information from shermantine wants authorities to call in the fbi. >> they will bring in 100 people. you can't imagine the equipment they bring in. they will bring in airplanes that can go over a field and -- and -- and ground-penetrating radar. >> remains of two victims found at the calaveras county sites have been identified. the state crime lab is working to identify remains from a well in san joaquin county. animal rescue teams are able to save a few thousand hens found starving to death in the san joaquin valley. the birds were on an egg farm

in the stanislaus county near turlock. crews started loading the birds healthy enough to save into trucks. 50,000 were found starving. as many as a third were already dead. animal services says the operator ran out of money and couldn't feed the birds. he has handed over owner thin of the birds to the county. is he expected to face animal cruelty charges. this morning, oakland police are investigating the death of an elderly man in the oakland hills as a possible murder. a friend found the body of 78- year-old joseph robertson on zachary drive yesterday morning. one neighbor says police told him that robertson's door had been kicked in. police though have not confirmed that or any other details about the case. robertson's family describes him as a soft-spoken man with no enemies. >> the man was almost 80 years old. and i have never seen him raise a finger, raise his voice. my only thought is he didn't deserve anything that happened

to him. >> police have not released a cause of death or even a possible motive. san jose police believe a fugitive suspected in a two decades old murder case may be back in santa clara valley. salvador suarez 35 years old at the time of the shooting. the left photo taken at the time. on the right an artist rendition of what he might look like today. he is suspected in the fatal shooting of a sunnyvale man. investigators believe he recently returned from mexico possibly under an assumed name. military community mourning the death of seven marines killed in one of the deadliest aviation training accidents in years. a pair of military helicopters taking part in a training exercise wednesday night after taking off from camp pendleton in southern california. but they collided above the chocolate mountains in southeast california near the arizona border. >> the marine corps motto fight like you train, train like you

about to become the eighth state to legalize gay marriage. the governor is expected to sign a law soon that was approved by the state senate yesterday. but opponents are not giving up. they are vowing to bring the m in the governor of maryland is about to sign a law approved by the senate yesterday for same- sex marriage legalization. voters will have a referendum in november if they gather more than 50,000 questions to get it on the ballot. california republican leaders are meeting in burlingame over the weekend. they start arriving this morning for the party's spring

runner for the presidential nomination. this morning, mitt romney is hoping to win voters with his economic plan. he is expected to call for tax cuts and reforms to social security and medicare, in michigan. voters there and in arizona head to the polls on tuesday. u.s. postal service is closing or consolidating almost half of its mail processing centers nationwide including four plants here in the bay area. of the more than 220 centers, 14 are here in california. it's all part of the postal service's $15 billion cost- cutting plan. centers will begin closing in mid-may as many as 35,000 workers could lose their jobs. let's talk about santana row one of the trendiest places to live in san jose. and it's now expanding thanks to the improved silicon valley economy. the center known for its bars, restaurants and high-end shops is adding residential, office and retail space. the first phase is described as a resort style community of

armed carjacking suspect in los angeles. ano whoa, whoa, whoa! >> big shootout. authorities opened fire on an armed carjacking suspect in los angeles. another driver ducked tore cover a few feet away there. it happened last night on wilshire boulevard. all caught on tape. the suspect reportedly had a blue steel handgun. the chase started on the ventura freeway and continued on to city streets. the 40-year-old suspect suffered several gunshot wounds. he died. in san francisco, a woman

is recovering after being trapped under a muni train. firefighters hoisting the train to rescue the woman. police say she tried to cross between the train's two cars in the inner sunset yesterday and the train started moving. the woman got knocked down and dragged but aside from a couple of scrapes and scratches, she should be okay. a strong remind they are morning: always watch for other drivers on the road. video released of a nasty wreck in dallas. the truck flips over and crushes a car. investigators believe that speed was a factor in this. the man in the crushed car is in the icu at a hospital there. and it's not just on the roads where you need to be on alert. a massachusetts convenience store a truck crashed into the store. the 43-year-old man behind the wheel had an undisclosed medical condition and lost control of the car. he was pulling into a parking

spot just out front. when it comes to medical conditions and things like that, if it's beyond a person's control, then there's not much to do beyond just to be aware that anything can happen at any time. >> one of the customers was taken to the hospital. but he is expected to be okay. so lawrence, watch your surroundings. >> crazy on the roads. luckily when we come in there's nobody out there. we have the roads by ourselves. if you are heading out, today we have some changes as early as as today as the high pressure system that's been bringing those beautiful temperatures starting to weakened somewhat. still numbers in the 40s and 50s. mostly clear skies. couple of patches of fog developing toward the coastline. and a little breezy inland still. but by the afternoon, these temperatures still running above the average but noticeably cooler than yesterday. plan on about low 70s as you head well inland today. you will city some 50s and 60s at the coastline but patchy fog may gather at the beaches especially in the latter part of the day. high pressure now slowly weakening. you have this area of low pressure to the north that's

going to start to clamp counsel done on us in a bit so we'll see cooler air especially over the weekend the temperatures taking a nosedive throughout the weekend well below average towards sunday. so with that in mind enjoy today. you have 60s and 70s into the central valley about 63 in yosemite and 56 in lake tahoe. around the bay, these temperatures still going to be warm. about 73 degrees in san jose. 72 in santa clara. 61 though some patchy fog moving into pacifica. east bay temperatures into the 60s and also the 70s. and as you get inside the bay those numbers running mainly into the 60s. 50s at the north coast. how about this, though. next couple of days these temperatures wouldn't you know it just in time for the weekend you have all these plans we have had these great days and now here comes the cool air. more clouds sunday. running below average that day, as well. looks like much cooler toward monday and tuesday. maybe some showers next wind wednesday. >> mike sugerman was complaining about that. >> he was complaining to me. >> he should. word of a relatively bad accident. not sure about injuries. we know several lanes are block. and we're seeing a long line of slow sensors. southbound 101 right by hellyer avenue. this is a multi-vehicle crash. and it sounds like they may have to run a quick traffic break. in the meantime traffic is stopped maybe why we're seeing slowing on your sensors. long line looks like it's backed up from the 280-680 interchange with speeds below 20 miles per hour. 280 out of downtown san jose, just a couple of headlights so no big deal but the hotspot there for sure at least two lanes blocked running a traffic break southbound 101 heading out of san jose. all right. the bay bridge, your bridges are not too bad this morning including this live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. looks good across the upper deck. lower deck there may be some roadwork scheduled until 6:00 this morning. here's a live look at the san mateo bridge. we were following overnight roadwork on eastbound and westbound 84 the dumbarton bridge. that's all now picked up. it was actually picked up at
