area was apparently not seriously injured and there is no word on the other victims or suspects >> last night's shooting happened on the 100 block area that has received extra police patrolled recently. the police department is cutting the number of officers. the cuts come as serious crimes in oakland are up 20% from this time last year despite last year's reassignment of 22 officers from community police beats to crime reduction teams working to cut violence. oakland currently has 653 police officers. the chronicle reports the decision to move officers back to their beats came after residents in the oakland hills complained of an increase in burglaries. city council members will get an update on the 100 blocks program >> and today san jose's independent police auditor will give recommendations to prevent racial profiling. this follows complaints that officers were forcing people to

sit on curbs, especially minorities, it even during minor traffic stops. today cordova will give a presentation to the mayor and city council along with the police chief >> fairfield police are investigating a deadly officer involved shooting. an officer went to talk with a man yesterday afternoon and police say violent struggle broke out. the officer called for backup but before officers were able to arrive the suspect had been shot at >> power is up and running again in parts of zambrano after an outage that affected cal train service. pg&e says it began about 930 last night when a crane cause power lines to fall across the train tracks. caltrans service was halted for about one hour. electricity was knocked out for nearly 600 homes and businesses but all got power back by early this morning. earlier in today couple had a

close call with live power lines in contra costa county when a truck took down the lines knocking them into a camper. the husband and wife were trapped inside that camper for a half-hour until pg&e crews were able to d energize the lines. >> all of a sudden i was hit, i didn't see it. it came down and then it stopped. >> pg&e says the couple did the right thing and it is a good reminder that all downed power lines should be treated like they are alive >> tonight the standard a city council talks about what to do with the remainder of the pipeline that exploded in 2010. there are three options on the board, they may take it out of the ground completely, they might leave it in and fill it with concrete or they might do a combination of the two.

he is trying to get his job back as sheriff after being suspended by the mayor. over the next weeks a lawyers will provide list of witnesses and in late may the commission will decide whether live testimony will be heard. alameda county supervisors will have a personal item on the agenda when they meet this morning. they will discuss whether to accept resignation of the wife of state treasurer bill lockyer. she resigned friday after she admitted to substance abuse and an extramarital affair. she says she needs to focus on family and her recovery from addiction >> republican mitt romney is expected to make a clean sweep today as five more states hold primaries. today's primaries are the first since romney closest competitor reeks santorum drop out of the race. mitt romney campaigned throughout pennsylvania focusing on his matchup with president

obama in november. >> i would like you to go out and vote and give me your support and show that we are what ready to take on the president's >> pennsylvania is one of five primaries today. romney is expected to win the mall and bring him closer to the delegates he needs to clinch the nomination. monday he campaigned with florida senator mark go rubio leading many to speculate he might end up on the ticket. the former massachusetts governor says not so fast >> process for selecting a vice- presidential running mate is just beginning >> latest polls show the candidates in a dead heat with a president trying to rally on voters this week. president obama kicks off today three state tour of college campuses with a stop at chapel hill this afternoon. students there began lining up for tickets over the weekend. the president is pushing for an extension to lower interest rates for student loans.

temperatures are rather mild this morning, already 60 degrees in concord. afternoon highs will be in the '60s and '70s but it will feel muggy outside. in a better chance of rain as we move to tomorrow. another cooler storm moves in on thursday and we will have another nice weekend. >> we will take you to the santa cruz mountains, we were following a major injury crash but about a half-hour ago they were able to reopen all lanes. the south bay actually looks pretty good right now with no major slowing on any of your major freeways. we do have a high wind advisory for the benicia bridge. the golden gate bridge, so far

clouds but temperatures will stay in the '50s and '60s. as we had around the bay area we will see those temperatures trying to warm up a bit. 55 degrees in santa rosa, plenty of clouds travelling across the skies. a chance of showers well to the north in eureka. low pressure will spin off the coast line and finally make its way on short tomorrow. the next system will drop out of the gulf of alaska. computer models pick up a lot of clouds moving across the sky today but keeping us mostly dry. we begin to see more green as the rain moves in and then a brief break before the next form drops in on thursday. it looks like the east bay temperatures are up in the '70s in most places. out towards the coastline, '50s

and '60s. the return of wet weather around the bay area on wednesday and thursday and then we start to dry things out around the bay area.
