for a warming trend to take us into the low 80s by tomorrow. clear skies and a big full moon out there tonight. we will have all the details coming norway >> >> in the meantime, police are stepping up patrols in san jose with the goal of stopping potential fights between rival gangs. this video from chopper 5 last night shows a lot of activity along santa clara boulevard. tonight it will shut off access to cross streets and if any problems develop the cars will be pushed out onto the freeway as part of the beef up presence by the police patrol division and special operations units. eight gang task force is trying to coax potential agitators out

of town. >> we will be taking some of the higher caliber used to undisclosed places to have social and safe weekend. >> there's also concern about gang activity at the santa clara county fairgrounds so the sheriff's department has more deputies on duty this weekend and it follows a gain motivated murder in a city park in san jose last week. police in vallejo are investigating a deadly stabbing. officers found a man and woman who had been stabbed. the man later died at a hospital making him the fourth homicide victim in vallejo of this year. the woman has serious injuries. police have detained one person but have not made any arrests. a 4.1 earthquake hit the bay area this morning about 3 mi. east of the geysers in sonoma

county. no damages or injuries have been reported. there are 15 power plants they're creating enough clean energy to power the entire city of san francisco. now to a developing story from cuba, the self-proclaimed mastermind behind the 911 attacks is in a military court right now. here is a live look at guantanamo bay. it has taken 11 years but mohamad and four others are being charged with the murders of nearly 3000 people. mohamad has also admitted to being an al qaeda operative. a big day today for two of the three hikers who were arrested by the iranian government. they're getting married. the location of the wedding is being kept a secret but it is somewhere here in the bay area. they along with their friend

were arrested at the iranian border in 2009. they were accused of spying. they proposed in captivity. a group of bay area fishermen went out looking for crab but they found themselves face to face with something else, a gray whale. you may remember, named june. four weeks they've been trying to find a well after she was caught in fishing line and from out of know where the whale swam right up to these fishermen. elizabeth cook on that 90 minute odyssey that ultimately ended with the whale free at last. >> it was a typical crab fishing excursion for the captain and his crew. that was until he saw this. >> if i reached down i could of touch him >> it was the wayward whale who was entangled in getting off the orange county coast last month. rescue crews tried to free it but she gave them the slip and,

>> recent numbers show home foreclosures in the bay area are dropping significantly. this morning, allen martin with a closer look at why that is happening and what is to come if number start to rise again >> it is a bold prediction that could sound like poetry to people about to lose their own >> it has been headed down since late 2008. banks no longer have to get foreclosures off the books quickly and they can account for them differently which means there are no hurry to foreclose despite what some people may believe.

>> shawn says that banks are keeping some foreclosures of the market. he says home inventory is going down. interest rates are at record lows, demand is up and prices are edging higher. >> lots of numbers bounce around from month to month. in some ways, the bay area is getting back to normal faster than a lot of the country. >> the question is whether the foreclosure drought will last. some experts say it is political pressure holding off the bulk of foreclosures for nearly half a the californians who are making their loan payments. >> o'toole says that americans are still holding nearly 10 trillion dollars of mortgage

cold temperatures for the workweek as we look at clear skies across the bay area. a warming trend kicking and that will take us through this a good man holidays pushing the low 80s and out across the interior. low clouds and fog are absent for now and we will remain that way through the week. clear and cool in the early morning hours with temperatures into the upper thirties across the north bay. gradually cooling through the middle of the week but no weather is threatening so the cinco de mayo festivities throughout the bay area will be underneath beautiful weather as we look for low '70's. clear skies and once again, the

satellite picture indicates high pressure prevailing. mostly clear with the warming trend into the middle of the week. gradually the high pressure system will slip to the east but until then we will enjoy an offshore breeze. for tonight, under clear skies, the much advertised superman is upon us. the moon will be closer to the earth here as the orbit is reaching its closest point to the earth so it will appear brighter and better tonight than it usually is. temperatures today in the upper seventies pushing the low 80s across the interior. as we begin to continue the

warming trend in to the week we will look for upper seventies in the bay and mid to upper 60s back at the beach. the relay for life is taking place in san jose with temperatures in the upper seventies. mostly sunny skies through the week and temperature's continuing to warm and we will see a few clouds, a slight cool down but nothing dramatic as we continue the warming trend through the weekend and next weekend. >> social networking has gone to the dogs. people are using the site called match puppy to find friends for their best friends. the sites founder says the original business plan was to help owners looking to breed their pets but eventually they decided that friends were ok too. pet owners can get a lot out of the web site as well >> bonds are a great icebreaker

and using a site like ours you confine your relationships for your friend so definitely the human aspect is very strong >> the website is limited to york city right now but other locations are in the works. the new report shows there are more than 5 million kids under the age of 13 who have facebook profiles and there is a new guide out to help parents raise kids in the digital age. jim, you just wrote a new book called talking back to facebook. we've been talking about facebook and all of these media outlets for months now. we're waiting for was to catch up to where we are right now with social media and you are always pumping parents to pay attention to what is going on >> i wrote this book and basically the bottom line is whether we like it or not, this is the world that we live in

today and a new report shows that well over 5 million kids under the age of 13 it is using facebook which is not how it is planned under law but the truth is that this is the reality we live in today and whether you look at it as a parent or an educator, we know that digital media is everywhere in our kid's life. it's to send a wake-up call, we need to have a conversation in this society about what we need to do in this world we see around us and there is a big ipo coming up in 10 days also up >> there are concrete privacy concerns, identity theft concerns but a lot of social concerns. facebook and how people share and how their relationship to grow are really affecting how kids live their lives >> when i wrote the book idea is

to say to a very broad public that whether you like it or not, facebook, google, and also cellphone behavior is having an enormous impact on the social emotional and cognitive development of young people in particular. you can watch their friends with their cell phones or their blackberries but truthfully on all of us, we need to have a national conversation about that. we are in the bay area saw most of the bid package trees and big players in this area whether it is facebook or apple, all of them are here within a 40 mi. radius of this television studio. the other point is that i work with those guys and i say we have a responsibility to kids and teenagers. there is amazingly good stuff from an educational standpoint but we need to be aware of some of the downside. >> in the meantime before the

laws are passed, what should parents do? obviously won't be able to cover the whole book but some of the main text >> the number one thing i would say as you need to spend time with your kids in their media life so understand what facebook is, understand why they sent some in the text messages >> understanding is key because a lot of people do not understand the privacy settings >> ipod a lot about that in the book. you need to choose stuff that is the right age for your eight year-old or 10 year-old. the bottom line is you need to set very clear rules about what is right and what is wrong. your kids should not be on a video game machine or facebook for three or four hours per day. you need to be clear about the age limit and what is appropriate. i think this is so obvious, but it can never be stated enough, you are their role model. if you go home and your at the dinner table and you're using

your cell phone or you can't tear ourselves away from the computer while your child is talking about homework or whatever on the beautiful weekend, then you are not modeling good behavior so the number one thing i think parents can do is be a good role model and control their own a digital behavior and take time out. he need to get away from your phone or your facebook page and get away from all of this digital reality. jim gibbons the nicest weather report. he walked around outside on a day like this include your cell phone? >> talking back to facebook, it comes out on tuesday. thanks for being here. ,,,,

thunderstorm watch but conditions are expected to improve for the kentucky derby today. a couple of tough games last night for the a's and the giants. the a's starting pitcher gave up seven runs to the tampa bay raise and the giants could not recover after the brewers took a lead. >> aubrey huff is expected to come off the disabled list on monday which is the first day he is eligible to return. he has been out with an anxiety disorder. tim lincecum only lasted five innings and he could only watch in the seventh inning when the brewers take the lead. the giants lose 6-4, their fourth straight loss. with coco crisp going on the disabled list, taylor got called up for the a's. the rays eta 7-2, it is their sixth straight win.

round two at quail hollow and tiger woods shot a 73 leaving him on the wrong side of the top line. it is only the eighth time in his career that he has missed a cut. nba playoffs, andrea miller sets up the big jam. the nuggets beat the lakers by 15 and will have a chance to and even the series. boston beat atlanta in overtime to take a 2-1 series lead. that is a look at sports and we will see you tonight at 530. >> a tax hike proposal heading to the november ballot, california professors and their students are being hit by the budget cuts. >> class's are over and rolled, we have kids sitting on the floor, graduate students who can't enroll anymore because they cannot get loans to go to school.

730 may 5th, cinco de mayo. thank you for joining us. >> we taking a look at your holiday weekend weather here as we see another beautiful weekend taking shape around the bay with mostly clear skies, a warming trend will go into this week. temperatures in the mid to low eighties for tomorrow. it does look like a very lovely cinco de mayo taking shape. temperatures are pushing that 80 degree mark. by this afternoon we'll take a closer look at your forecast and details are coming up in just a few minutes. >> police officers in san jose are stepping up patrols on cinco de mayo trying to spot potential fights between rival gangs. tonight they will shut off access to all cross streets downtown and if any problems develop the crowd and the cars will be pushed towards the

freeway and out of the downtown area. it is all part of the heightened presence by the patrol division and special operations units. last night they started ticketing and towing cars parked along santa clara to try to clear the area for parties that will inevitably be developing tonight. a gang task force is paying potential agitators to leave town because gang tensions have been growing in that area since a murder last week. vallejo police trying to piece together evidence in a deadly stabbing. officers found a man and woman who had been stabbed. the man later died at hospital making him the fourth victim in vallejo this year of a homicide. the woman has serious injuries this morning. now to a developing story we have been following this morning

tech week europe says the regime is spreading malicious software through skype. the magazine quotes an activist who discovered the on-line impersonator of one of her friends. the person had the software with links to the company that reports to the government. arizona's governor goes after abortions. jan brewer has signed a bill into law that cuts off parents, planned parenthood access to tax money. the same idea has failed in texas. yesterday a federal appeals judge ruled that the state cannot band planned parenthood from getting state funding. this morning the state senate in connecticut passed a bill that would make the state the 16th to legalize marijuana for medical mayor corporate purposes. the bill outlines specific diseases that can be treated with the drug. it also establishes a system of

introduces us to a man who was greeted more programs than ever to help young people thrive. it's this week's jefferson awards. >> this high-school junior has just finished the year with huckleberry wellness academy and now he is sharing tips with 120 students from san francisco who like himself are among the first in their families headed for college. the huckleberry wellness academy introduces students to careers in health. it is the latest program spearheaded by bruce fisher, executive director. >> we do is what schools used to do to provide counseling, academic support, assistance in applying to college, there is none of that now >> what brings him to his feet is that it is working >> we're very excited because there are approximately 35

graduates and so far 34 have been accepted to college >> like this senior from san rafael high school >> i'm so excited because i got accepted into like three colleges so i will go to san francisco state and probably major in nursing >> bruce is commitment to helping young people succeed has been a lifelong passion. for the past 25 years he has been running huckleberry youth programs, one of the oldest youth service agencies and a national model. with the help of bruce fisher, it has expanded to so much more. the house now offers family counseling. a few blocks away their medical clinic provides care for teenagers. there is a juvenile justice program and a multi service center for youth in san rafael.

cinco de mayo tonight, just head outside. full moon is taking its closest path of the year by the earth which makes it a superman. it will be 14% bigger or appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter to us on earth. the best time to experience this would be around 835 tonight right in the middle of a lot of celebrations. it looks like it will be gorgeous weather. >> we continue with clear skies again around the bay through the day. a warming trend is kicking off for the weekend and we will look for the clear skies tonight making the moon appear bigger as it reaches its closest point in the orbit to the turf. clear and cool start to the day with upper '30's across the interior and to north bay. warmer temperatures today continuing the trend into tomorrow we will be pitched

pushing the mid to low 80s. a gradual cool down in the middle of the week but nothing dramatic. we remained mostly cleared with a bit of an offshore breezes through the week. we will see warm temperatures, mostly clear with the warming trend for the weekend and gradually the high pressure system will weaken in the middle of the week and we will see a subtle cool down. no threat of rain at this point for the next seven days. it looks like the rainy season is winding down. today we will look for temperatures in the hot spots pushing the upper seventies to low 80s. more eighties are likely for tomorrow as we see the warming trend continue. lots of sunshine will prevail

right now. let's make a deal which airs on cbs and your doing this improvisational comedy. >> i was here last night and for two shows tonight and a show tomorrow night. the audiences have been wonderful. i don't get a chance to come to san francisco a lot a especially with such great weather. we have a good time and then i get to enjoy your fair count >> what is your favorite thing to do? all of these different performances that you do >> to me is all lumped in together, i have been musical theater performers since i was 16 so, to me, it is one thing. i'm neither using one on one show or for the next, sometimes i get to use all of them so for me there is no differentiation. it is all how i work. >> where watching some of the footage right now, i do enjoy

that show. all the crazy people on the show, how you pick to comes down? >> it is the science of who looks like they're having a good time, who is dressed like they want to be there but not too far over the line. there are sensors, if you don't want someone dressed as a " sexy nurse " and all you see is the stethoscope, that is not good daytime tv. as you can see from the clips, they are crazy. >> do you ever spiels are for people when they lose? >> not to get deep about it but it is a game show so why should i feel sorry for them? it is a game shows that you have an opportunity it but you picked the wrong thing, that is how it

goes. people say give it to her anyway but you shouldn't be rewarded for nothing. it's bad enough that you are dressed up as a spaceman and just because you didn't pick the right box, i don't have to reward you for it. that is part of the fund. that's the great game that was set up so many years ago. if you pick that you go home. >> what is it like to fill such big shoes? >> i never look at it. it is a different take on the show. the only thing that is the same is the game play but the show is me. monty had his shoes and i have my own soda is a completely different thing. the characters and the singing in the things that i do with my co-host, it is a different show all together >> let's talk a little bit about the singing because you have a cd coming out. >> i was nominated for a grammy

three years ago. in february and i'm coming out with a brand-new record, a tv special that will be area around that so i'm very fortunate to be able to do it. if people want to hear it they can go to itunes. i was nominated for the cover of a sam cooke song and it was an amazing experience. that is probably the most important thing to me in my career that what i accomplished is being nominated for a grammy. i get to have fun every single day so whether it is singing were doing improv for game shows, i'm very lucky. >> speaking of improv, we have information on where you can come and see wayne brady performing live at the club tonight and tomorrow night. >> 7 and 930 tonight, tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.. it is all improvised. i don't even know what is
