good morning, everybody. good to be with you on a monday. i'm terrell brown. we'll hear more talk on the campaign trail about the steal mate in washington. democrats and republicans not working together particularly when it comes to the budget. over the weekend both sides said don't blame us. >> so i'm, you know, more than happy to work with republicans and what i've said in reducing our deficits we can make sure we cut $2.5 for every dollar of increased revenue. >> i'm more than happy to work with him. what we've learned in this presidency he says one thing and does another. >> the president and romney campaign battled over taxes. susan mcginnis is back in washington with more. good morning to you. >> good morning. with the convention over it's now a race to the finish line for the presidential candidates. president obama seems to be enjoying a post-convention lift and over the weekend he got a lift of a different kind.

campaigning in florida he stopped at big apple pizza and ended up getting more than just a pie. giving the president a bear hug, scott, owner of the pizza shop said he's a registered republican who plans to vote for president obama. >> i don't vote party line. i vote who i feel comfortable with. i do feel extremely comfortable with him. >> reporter: he's a voter in a key battleground state. >> florida is always close. >> reporter: and president obama spent the past two days there trying to drive home his point that romney's economic plan is short on details and will hurt the middle class. >> they couldn't answer questions for how they will pay for $5 trillion in new tax cuts and new defense spending without raising taxes on the middle class. >> reporter: romney won't say which tax loopholes he'll close to pay for his tax cuts, but he insists the middle class won't shoulder the burden.

>> contrary to what the democrats are saying i won't increase the tax burden on middle income families. it would be wrong to do that. >> reporter: in addition to the race for voters there's a race for cash and both campaigns moved full speed ahead. >> enthusiasm is high. >> reporter: the president raised $114 million last month a cash infusion that will help keep ads in front of voters through the election. >> if you're sick of hearing me approve this message, belief me so am i. >> reporter: for the first time in three months the president out raised the romney campaign. it rake ud in $1 rakeed in $111. romney campaign has $116 million in the bank. with the conventions behind us no more limitations on how much romney can spend. romney launched 15 new ads targeted to swing state voters. now the pizza shop owner was asked if he was worried about secret service when he lifted the president up and he said the president told him he's fine as

long as he doesn't try to carry him out. >> that could have been bad. we were all just thinking about that. thank you so much. since the campaign began, romney has promised to repeal the president's overhaul hearth law. romney said he would keep some key parts of the overhaul. >> there are a number of things that i like in health care reform that i'll put in place. one is to make sure those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. two to assure the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like. i want individuals to buy insurance, health insurance on their own as opposed to only being able to get it on a tax advantage basis. >> romney said that's consistent with his daily position. president obama got a bump coming out of the democratic convention. the president holds a five-point lead over romney. another poll shows the president with a four-point advantage.

>> this morning for the first time in 25 years, school teachers in chicago's public schools are on strike. talks between the teachers union and school board broke down. more than 26,000 teachers and support staff are expected to be on the picket line instead of the classroom. critical issues include standardized testing, teacher evaluations and the cost of health care. >> we have failed to reach an agreement that will prevent a labor strike. this is a difficult decision and one we hoped we could have avoided. >> this is a strike of choice. and because of how close we are, it is a strike that's unnecessary. >> both sides say they are willing to resume negotiations today. the strike will affect 400,000 students. exclusive interview with scott pelley, one of the navy s.e.a.l.s who killed osama bin laden said the mission was not an assassination. mark owen is a s.e.a.l. that

wrote a book about the raid. owen said if possible the s.e.a.l.s were top capture bin laden and then following the president they wouldn't tell the president who actually shot him. >> in my mind he looked way younger than i thought he was going to be. his beard wasn't gray. i saw lots of photos of him. they were always gray. his beard was dark black. he was very tall. so chalk that up as something -- >> bin laden was about 6'4". >> right. >> his nose was something i could identify. so, kind of looking at the profile shots and everything, okay, pretty sure that was him but, i'm not willing to make that call. certainly not at that point. >> not willing because owen said they suspected the president was listening at the white house and he was right. the helicopter crash had been reported up the chain of command. owen says the s.e.a.l.s wanted proof before anyone said

anything on the radio about killing osama bin laden. they turned to one of the s.e.a.l.s in the room who spoke arabic. >> he moved to where the women and kids were, grabbed one of the younger kids to say who is that inside. she says osama. osama the who? osama bin laden. >> the child? >> the child. >> identified them. >> grabbed one of the females. asked her again. who is that? she said osama bin laden. >> does a cheer go up among the s.e.a.l.s. start shaking hands? patting each other on the back? >> nothing. all business. 1:00 here. we call-up the commanding officer. he comes upstairs. looks at the body. we give him what we have so far. here's what he looks like. take a look. he's tall. women and kid confirm it. he took one look. okay, i think that's him. >> the commander used the code word for bin laden, geronimo as he passed the message on the admiral. for god and country he said i

passed geronimo, ekia. which stands for enemy killed in action. 20 minutes had passed. ten minutes left on the schedule. >> we wanted to collect dna samples. we wanted to take photographs of him and then we wanted duplicate copies of that. we're taking the body out. but if the helicopter got shot down on the way out and it had the body we wanted the other they want to have dna and photos so they would have some sort of evidence to say we do have him. and here it is. >> you wanted duplicates of everything. >> just in case. >> you thought of everything? >> we tried. >> one s.e.a.l. took blood and saliva samples. owen took the pictures. >> i figured these were some of the most important photos i would ever take in my life. get it right. good angles. you got to clean off the face so it's identifiable as possible. one of my buddies had a

syria. two bombs exploded simultaneously. 17 people were killed and 40 wounded. syrian war planes bombed several apartment buildings. cbs money watch. shell begins drilling this morning in alaska, online celebrity search danger. >> reporter: good morning. overseas stocks were flat ahead of expected stimulus from the federal reserve. tokyo's nikkei was young changed. jobs report may be welcomed by investors. they are hoping continued weak job growth could spur the federal reserve to stimulate the economy. dow closed out a strong week by gaining 14 points while the nasdaq stayed flat. royal dutch shell has started drilling for oil off the coast of alaska. it's the first time in more than 20 years drilling has taken place. four years ago shell paid nearly $3 billion to the federal government for petroleum leases. the work began even though shell

has not been certified and not positioned nearby. the government is selling off more shares of aig the insurance company that received the largest bailout during the financial crisis. the company said the treasury department will sell $18 billion of shares to institutional investors, should reduce the government's stake to less than 20%. harry potter fans beware you may not want to do an online search for emma watson. according to the computer security firm, the actress is the favorite bait for cyber criminals. when searching for watson, web surfers have a one in eight chance in landing on a malicious site. other celebrities topping the list include halle berry. you know, when you google terrell -- >> i was going to ask that. >> reporter: fabulous dancer. amazing singer. sometimes journalist. >> you have no idea what you get when you click on ashton moore.

tomorrow marks the 11th anniversary of the september 11th attacks on the same day the 9/11 museum was expected to open in lower manhattan. but as anthony mason reports it's opening is being delayed by a dispute over money. >> reporter: every day people line up to see the memorial, 4.5 million visitors in the past year. they come to see the pools where the twin towers once stood. to touch the names of the victims. what they cannot visit is the 9/11 museum. alice greenwald is its director. >> it's a place where the story will be told and without the museum the memorial is incomplete. >> reporter: once it is built, the museum is where visitors will see faces behind the names. their personal momentos and relics of that tragic day.

the museum curator is organizing 40,000 artifacts. >> cell phones? >> on 9/11 andrea was visiting new york on a business trip. she was on the 93rd floor of the trade center, unable to call her parents or fiancee. or to get out. >> these are the keys to her, they later told us her new apartment, her car. >> her eye glasses. >> the museum plans to display the observations of astronaut frank culbertson who was orbiting earth in the international space station on 9/11. >> hard to deal with this and recover from it. country still looks good and for new yorkers your city looks great. >> you were supposed to be cutting a ribbon opening up this museum. why hasn't that happened? >> there's been an ongoing dispute with our construction manager. we're working very hard to resolve. >> the construction manager is the port authority of new york and new jersey. a government agency spending

billions to rebuild this site with a new train station and the tallest office building in the western hemisphere. the vice chairman said the agency is concerned about the financeses of the museum and memorial foundation. >> it's about do we have the money now to finish where we are, and do we have a plan in place to ensure that it can be sustainable financially going forward. >> foundation officials say they can handle their $60 million annual budget. just as they raised $450 million to build the memorial and museum. 9/11 family members, like charles wolf whose wife died in the north tower said it's shameful that the museum is not open. >> vast majority of us that i have spoken to or heard from are disgusted. disappointed and disgusted. >> for now only a few 9/11 artifacts are on public view. in a visitor's center.
