francisco right now. and good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. busy doesn't even begin to sum up the weekend or the mood in san francisco at this hour. the fleet week airshow and america's cup have wrapped up for the day. the second day of hardly strictly bluegrass ends in about 30 minutes. so now it's all eyes on at&t park and that's where we find cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington. >> reporter: there is so much excitement here right now. you can hear people behind me here the chants of let's go, giants, from the ballpark. we just saw some fireworks, some fighter jets overhead and more than 41,000 fans are piling into at&t park for game one of the play-offs. they tell me a win is very important because it could set the tone for the post-season. now, this is a national league division series, the giants versus the reds. the giants have home field advantage for the first two games which are today and tomorrow. then they will head to cincinnati for the remaining

games of a best-of-five series. pitcher matt cain will start on the mound tonight. these teams have faced each other 7 times this season with the reds winning four of the games. giants fans are confident that san francisco will win and are hoping for a repeat of 2010 when they went all the way. >> giants fans, play-offs had to come. >> matt cain on the mound it will be a good series start. >> reporter: fans didn't have a hard time getting into the ballpark despite the events happening in the city this weekend. buses and muni trains, however, were packed. most people i talked to took bart. some of them saying they had trouble finding parking at bart stations because so many were using that mode of transportation. but really, what a great night for a ballgame. and there's so much happening in the city that when people were in line they got a chance to see some of the blue angels fly over, as well. a lot of excitement. people still going inside and

the game is starting in a cummins. >> thank you, elissa harrington. >> and we were warned and warned again about traffic heading into the weekend. so far no major problems. gianna franco has more from the traffic center. >> reporter: people certainly paid attention. they used mass transit. they walked and they used a lot of bicycles. in fact, we're going to show you some video we took earlier from chopper 5. look at the rows and rows of bikes at golden gate park. lots of people used that mode of transportation to avoid traffic tie-ups. so it worked out because it's lighter than usual for folks heading in and out of san francisco. now, a lot of the events are wrapping up now so we might see extra busy conditions. we'll run down a few. hardly strictly bluegrass festival ending in the next half hour so busier conditions along golden gate bridge right now 19th avenue as well as around golden gate park. embarcadero folks leaving for

fleet week events for the day america's cup as well, northbound embarcadero is closed right lane only between washington and bay through tomorrow. giants and reds under way in the next few minutes so that's going to see some lighter conditions but still embarcadero may be busy especially after the game, as well. they do shut down king street in that area to kind of ease traffic. and apparently there's a lot of justin bieber fans out there. busy along 880, the concert happening at oracle tonight. here's' live look you can see at 880 loaded up on that southbound side. live look at the bay bridge right now as well which again it is lighter than usual heading in and out of san francisco. so that's the good news. again, 880 a little busy. >> thank you. fleet week always draws a crowd but this year it was a double billing with america's cup racing. cbs 5 reporter sharon chin is on the marina green. sharon. >> reporter: a lot of people will be taking public transportation leaving fleet week festivities. this is a record day for at least one transportation agency.

[ jets ] >> reporter: the blue angels soared above marina green in afternoon just minutes away from the america's cup yacht races along the embarcadero. the embarcadero has been a traffic hotspot all day. tonight there's a giants game and on top of that the right- hand lane between washington and bay streets is off limits to cars. it is reserved for bicycles and emergency vehicles. major congestion hasn't jammed the golden gate and bay bridges as projected but traffic slowed down outside the bluegrass festival at golden gate park. overall spectators are following advice to take bicycles or mass transit. two familiesdrove from the east and south bay came hours early to avoid traffic. did you encounter any traffic anywhere? >> not at all. it was actually really good. i think people listened to the warnings and they stayed off the roads. >> there's no parking.

>> we just left our car at the hotel and walk or took a cab an chased down the taxi. >> reporter: tomorrow could be busier. san francisco will host another event, the blue angels, fleet week, america's cup, giants. add to that an afternoon 9ers game, street festivals and parade. many people are take public transportation. the san francisco bay ferry tripled its seating capacity and it estimates that it will have transported 12,000 to 15,000 riders by the day's end. that's a weekend record. four to five times more than normal. and bart ridership also up 27% today compared to last saturday. ann. >> brace for tomorrow. thank you. obviously this is no ordinary weekend in san francisco and those responsible for crowd control have been preparing for a full year. it's go time for the department of emergency management gathered at this center on turk street. there were representatives from

the fire and police departments and the red cross and public transit. >> there's no known threat against the city or any of the events this weekend. but those are things that, as public safety officials, we have it take that type of thing -- we have to take that type of thing into account. >> they set up a mobile command center to monitor radio traffic and news and a call center is set up for emergency response. so if there was a weekend when we needed good weather it was this one and we got it. roberta gonzales joins us. it was beautiful. >> the weather is vitally important for the pilots. the blue angels, right, because we have have a ceiling that is seamless for the most part. we had a deck yesterday about 1,000 feet and we were hoping we did not have to scrap any blue angels plans as far as flying is concerned and what happened? we cleared out nicely today. in fact, let's take a look at some of those high temperatures across the bay area. right now 59 in pacifica. 71 fairfield. upper 60s in san jose after a high today of 71 degrees. fleet week continues on sunday

taraval avenue last night. a few hours later another man was found shot on azalea drive. they both died. in hercules police are investigating a possible homicide. a woman in her 50s was found dead in her home on ash court about 10:45 last night. when she didn't show up at the airport to pick up her husband, he called a neighbor to check her. that's when she was found -- the wife was found lying on the floor unresponsive. this is a photo of the victim released by her family. police say the neighbors saw what they believed to be blood. detectives say the family car was missing from the garage. it's a sky blue 2011 subaru outback with an idaho license plate. anyone with information is asked to call the hercules police. police in daly city are investigating a crash that killed a 6-year-old girl. it happened in a parking lot of saint andrew catholic church on

let's go ahead and take a look at our current conditions in and around our microclimates. number-wise 70 degrees at this hour in redwood city and in livermore. 66 in santa rosa. it is currently 63 degrees in san francisco. the winds have picked up out of the west. the sun is setting. official sundown 6:46. for the most part clear skies, a few clouds trying to obscure the sunset there. meanwhile with the clouds building overnight setting the stage for a partly sunny day tomorrow and much cooler day and then that extended forecast does a chance of showers in your forecast. tonight overnight, number-wise into the 40s and 50s. 40s now getting out that extra blanket. now, we do have this area of low pressure. it's a trough. and you can see it meandering right there off the california coast. and as it continues its circulation in a counterclockwise fashion, it's mixing up our marine layer and that's why we had the abundance of sunshine at the coast today while interior areas had a filter of sun and clouds. now, this is interesting. you can play along at home by

watching the clock tick on by. you see the cloud deck build back up again as that area of low pressure gets closer and closer to the bay area. so we will wake up on the gray side tomorrow especially coastside and bayside but then it clears out and we'll have a westerly wind 10 to 20. more of an onshore push so we have it bring down the temperatures but what does that mean for tomorrow's rock and roll half marathon? 40- to 50,000 people expected to pound the pavement in downtown san jose. 59 degrees at 8 a.m. for that stamp meanwhile your forecast, we're talking 50s at the beaches, 60s around the peninsula, 60s and 70s common around the santa clara valley back in through morgan hill. east of the bay 75 degrees the outside number. north of the bay napa low 70s. 72 degrees in novato. upper 50s in bodega bay. the extended forecast, we have a chance of a shower on monday and tuesday. and then cloud cover on wednesday. and then we'll see more seasonal conditions by the end of the workweek. s by the end

a's and tigers alds game-1 n the books... justin verlander warming upn baseball play-offs up top giants under way. game one is in the books. justin verlander warming up for the bullpen and boy, first batter of the game, coco crisp. that's the first as leadoff post-season home run, roberta, since rickey henderson in 1989. it was 1-0. tied at one in the third, oh-oh! the hiccups. parker bobbles it away. tigers lead 2-1 after a runner scores. it got worse as alex stepped to the plate and sent it back away and gone in the fifth to make it 3-1. parker 5-6... 6 1/3, three runs, couple earned. but verlander was the king. 7 innings, 11 strikeouts, as struck out 14 times. the as could have tied it here in the 8th.
