the san francisco giants are back at home ready to prepare for game six. national league championship series after a 5-0 win in st. louis last night. and the main reason, the giants avoided elimination. zito the often criticized pitcher worked through an early jam it keep the cardinals off the scoreboard. the performance was a far cry from 2010 when he was left off the postseason roster. >> got to be professional. you can't pout and stuff like that. i worked on a lot of things that offseason. i came back stronger for it i think. >> game six at 4:45 tomorrow afternoon at the at&t park. we'll have full highlights coming up in sports. sorting this morning, peopling need to dial a few extra digits to complete a

starting on november 20th. if you use the sam take yo bridge, you'll have to find an alternate. it will be shut down in both directions and will be that way all week. they're going to make is seismic repairs and fix a crack that appeared about two years ago. >> we had a cracked girder, shaped like a wishbone. at that time we put in a temporary fix. but now, in the year since, we've designed a permanent fix that is just basically a complete redesign of the whole area. >> bridge will be closed again next weekend. the plan is to have the bridge back open 5:00 monday morning in time for the commute. you can take the bay bridge. another normally congested stretch of bay area freeway is going high tech. caltran is launching a project to install censors to better

control the flow of traffic. the censors will communicate with the central control that controls metering lights. >> it tries to harmonize the movement. and that captures greater capacity. >> the project is scheduled to be completed by 2015. a san francisco worker is recovering after being stabbed on a munie bus yesterday afternoon. a rider began arguing with a driver of the bus and when the city employee tried to intervene, he was stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors. and that man was arrested and the victim was treated at the scene. police are looking for the man that shot at an officer in san francisco after a brief pursuit. one of two suspects opened fire on police while invading a traffic stop at 2:00 yesterday morning. the suspect's cadillac hit a

cab at eddie and franklin streets. the passenger was arrested. the driver ran from the scene. the cab driver was injured but will be okay. not your usual find for officers when they arrived at the scene of a car that crashed into a house. a man that had been shot several times. it happened just before midnight last night in the every of university avenue and cavna drive. the 39-year-old man that lives there was taken to the local hospital for treatment. he is in stable condition. lebanon's prime minister has offered to resign in the wake of a massive car bombing that killed eight people in beirut. the intelligence chief was among the victims. it's believed that he was targeted for releasing a plot

are still relatively high but they're coming down. here's a look at current average for gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. 4.41 in san jose, 4.51 in oakland. they are 17 to 19 cents less than they were just a week ago. a diesel spill caused a mess in more ways than one in north san jose during yesterday's afternoon commute. a big rig jackknifed after 3:00 on northbound 101 near 13th street. one lane and one onramp had to be closed as crews cleaned up the mess and try to keep the fuel from spill nothing the storm drains. tonight is supposed to be the best night to view that meteor shower. how to get the best possible view of mother nature's light show. and how a california woman survived an attack by a black bear. in the weather department, ladies and gentlemen, that was summer. big changes coming in in the early part of this week.

old survival trick a south california woman was attacked by a black bear and she lived thanks to an old wife is survival trick. she was walking her dog and she surprised a black bear and a cub. the bear turned on her and scratched on her but luckily did lose interest when she played dead and left. the state, fish and game authorities say that the bear poses a threat to humans. and if they catch it they will put the bear down. there have been 15 confirmed bear attacks in california since 1980. it's supposed to keep from you getting burned. but one brand of sunscreen is causing a few people to catch fire. so banana boat sunscreen are

at sfo. and overcast skies for much of the bay and but we do have inland a little bit of sunshine and 52 at santa rosa. you see by the dawn's early light we have sunny skies coming in earlier. increasing clouds tomorrow and tomorrow wind and rain and monday it's come into a bay area. you cannot see it. this the be the series of the high clouds in the next 48 hours. we'll first increase clouds tomorrow. today looks okay. and that will lead to a chance of showers beginning late tomorrow, monday's commute looks to be a met and then we'll go to showery conditions by tuesday. so look for rain on monday. this weekend then, a good chance to get the gutters cleaned out and all of that prerain activity that you got to worry about. in the bay area, out the door,

fog and clouds. inland has some sun and inland also has some clouds. we'll look for things to be nice later in the day. futurecast shows low clouds along the shoreline and they'll melt back to the coast later in the day. clear skies later in the bay area. and then we'll have a fairly clear night in the bay area till late tomorrow and the clouds will pick up and rain will come down late sunday. heading out of the bay area, 68 sacramento, and 56 at lake tahoe. a lot of clouds in the north third of the state. and 77 with fog in fresno. monday it will be rainy and windy and the winds out of the southwest at 35 miles an hour. i will not be surprised if we're to see some delays at the airport on monday. for the rest of you, new york looks next. denver is sunny and 75 and

continues to escalate. it was announced yesterday t all games before november ft eled -- a total of another chunk. nhl regular season has been wiped out. that was announced yesterday. all games before november 1st have become canceled. the league has turned down three counter proposals from the players' union. nhl officials said that a deal is reached by next thursday, a full 82 game season could be played starting november 2nd. but at this time no new negotiations are scheduled. with the season on the line, the giants came up with a

the new 6-6-9 area here's a look at this morning's top stories. callers in most of the santa clara county will need to dial a few extra digits as the new 669 area code goes into effect today. all customers with the 408 number will need to dial the area code even if they're calling the next door neighbor. right now this bridge is shut down in both directions and will be shut down all weekend long. and the closure is necessary so they can make seismic repairs and fix a crack that appeared two years ago. and with the 5-0 win over the cardinals, the giants have extended the national league championship series for another game. game six set for 4:45 tomorrow afternoon at at&t park. a lot of nerves on edge for that game. >> they're making it interesting. >> they are. >> the weather not so good.
