we'll have the full forecast in just a minute. the city of oakland is dealing with day of violence as four people were killed in separate shootings yesterday. all within a six-hour period. the most recent happened at around 8:00 last night in the 9400 block of hillside street on the city's east side. a man was found dead inside a home. the other three shootings happened yesterday afternoon spanning from west to east oakland. investigators aren't saying when the shootings are related or if -- saying whether the shootings are related or if there are any arrests. an autopsy will be done on a body found in sonoma county found at the novado disposal service. cbs 5 reporter juliette goodrich and on how investigators believe how the body got there. >> reporter: tonight investigators are trying to determine if the body found here at the novato disposal center was a homicide or an accidental death. workers at the recycling center discovered a man's body this afternoon in a recycling bin. the man's body had some signs

of trauma according to the sheriff deputies, but right now investigators believe that the injuries may have been caused by equipment at the disposal site. and investigators have not released the identity of the man until his family has been notified. but he is reportedly hispanic and a possible transient in the area. they are looking into the routes of the truck that bring recycling to the area to see where the man originally came from. the body may have been dumped elsewhere and brought to this facility. investigators hope to have the man's identity and release that information in the next 24 hours. juliette goodrich, cbs 5. after an intense four-hour search through the streets of oakland, officers called off a man hunt. police say that anthony hopkins is an inmate from santa rita jail taken to the hospital yesterday. at some point he was able to free himself from shackles and then ran when deputies opened up the car door.

>> absolutely. we're trying to see if he was able to manipulate it or if they were placed on incorrectly. the mother, sister, girlfriend all live near the hospital. he has a long record that dates back to more than 10 years. he was facing a long prison term for a number of robberies and kidnappings. in san jose the search for a new police chief will continue a little longer than originally planned. the current chief chris moore is scheduled to retire next friday, but the city manager has decided to expand the pool of candidates saying she needs more time to find a perfect match for the job. a city spokesman is playing down the delay saying that there was never a hard deadline. for the first time, no one in the san jose police department's existing command staff is seeking the top job. recent budget cutbacks have prompted a lot of officers to find jobs in other cities in the department. they have been very low. the federal aviation officials are trying to assure the public that bowings new 787

dream liner is safe to fly. the secretary transportation says that they would have no reservations about taking a flight on the dream liner. now, this even as the faa launches a comprehensive review. last monday a fire ignited in a battery pack as the empty 787 sat on the tarmac in boston. aviation safety experts say that recent problems including a big fuel leak are more likely the results of the quality control issues and not a flaw in the design. meanwhile they are using the 787 dream liner for their new service. that new service began yesterday with much fanfare at cbs international airport. and the ama flights are the first between the two cities since american airlines dropped the route in 2006. and that there has been a strong demand for the flights and they plan to increase the number of the weekly prices from 5:00 to 7:00. among those on hand for yesterday's ceremony, the airport's name sake for the former mayor congressman and the u.s. transportation

secretary. >> it is unnatural to have an ana type of flight directly from san jose to japan. >> they have traditionally struggled to get overseas flights. they limit the length of the runways and the size of the planes. talks are underway to add other carriers adding more oversea flights. passengers who fly to san francisco are experiencing longer delays than normal this weekend. crews are working on some of the runways, which means it will be closed until 8:00 monday morning. that's expected to mostly affect west coast flights. check them before you head to the airport. police in san francisco are beefing up security in and around candlestick park for this evenings nfl playoff game between the 49ers and green bay packers. ground crews put on the finishing touches yesterday. looking good. tonight more than 70,000 fans

will fill their seats. in addition to the uniformed officers, police will have some officers in regular street attire and some wearing jerseys from either team. they'll be on the lookout for unruly behavior before and during the game and drunk drivers afterwards. the goal to make sure that everyone has a good time. now, there are questions in the 49ers future home of santa clara and about whether or not a super bowl there could make money for the city. local officials are still putting together a bid to host the big game in either 2016 or 2017. but before that the nfl wants the city council to formally adopt a resolution of support for the game. the league also wants to lease the new stadium at a much cheaper rate than normal and that they are requiring some other financial confessions. a hearing for the accused movie theater killer in colorado has ended without him entering the play. the judge agreed to delay the arraignments of james holmes until march. his lawyers had asked for the delay as they might be looking for more time to get the mental

health evaluation from the doctor that they choose. now the end of yesterday's hearing, their father of one of the victims shouted that holmes should rot in hell. that man later apologized to the judge. now to america's second longest war in afghanistan. there are 66,000 american troops. the u.s. invasion after 9/11 came 11 years and 3s ago. there are more than 18,000 that have been wounded and the war has cost about $560 billion. the end has appeared to be in sight. it may come sooner than expected. >> the president updated me on peace and today we agreed that this process should be advanced by the opening of the taliban office to facilitate talks. >> reporter: talks on peace remain grim when fighting resumes this spring. it's not expected to let up. but the u.s. combat role will

never be the same. >> they will continue to fight there when needed. but let me say this as plainly as i can. starting this spring, our troops will have a different mission. training, advising, assisting, afghan forces. and it will be a short moment and another step towards full afghan sovereignty, something that i know they care deeply about due to the afghan people. >> and they all began to accelerate after the transition u.s. forces for the combat from training. he endorsed the moves and welcomed the smaller u.s. troop presence. >> numbers are not going to make a difference to the situation in afghanistan. it is what releases you there to make it to afghanistan and beyond in the region. >> reporter: the next big decision. how many u.s. forces, if any, will remain in afghanistan after 2014? pentagon recommendations range from 3,000 to 9,000.

some frost out this morning. oakland with 35 degrees and santa rosa down to 30 degrees. that's how it looks going to the satellite with the big dome of high pressure leading to northwesterly flows. the flow is just down in this direction and that is a dry direction. they will be light and the humidity will be very low and as a result, you know, you will see that there and the temperatures, they are not doing any better than 50 degrees. a beautiful visibility to get us to the top of the mountain and even catch a glimpse here. i don't know. but up there for mt. hamilton too, a day of stunning abilities. they need to run a little bit. that's what they are suppose to do today. any of the clouds, hanging offshore here. the bay area just remains clear all day today. but still, we don't do any better than struggling into the 50s, including running sacramento. only at 49 today. fresno at 50 and the same here. the forecast for the bay area,

we're going to be looking at numbers all within a few degrees of 50. 51 at mountainview, 51 at fremont, 51 at hayward and 50 degrees down at morgan hill. 101 down there at the east dunn avenue. 50 degrees at pittsburgh. the thing for them here, napa the same. 39 for livermore. up in the north bay, a little chillier there. sampson beach at 51 degrees. 52 at mill valley and 41 degrees in san rafael. for the nfl playoffs tonight. green bay verses san francisco. mostly clear and cool. temperatures will be about 49 degrees at game time. in the extended forecast, we're going to be looking for things to stay sunny all week long and the numbers will not improve dramatically if you consider warmer temperatures in improvement, you'll get it, but it will take until the end of the week. numbers will be near approaching, perhaps even suggesting saying 65 by next saturday.

deal ending the four-month lockout. electronic voting wrapped up about two hours ago. while the results on the estimated amounts, approval is likely. if that happens training camp is set to open tomorrow on the shortened regular season to start on january 19. now, it will be a week from tomorrow. the low pre-season games will be played. they will be moving past that one on the new labor deal. either side could opt out as they will say they need to release schedules after the players vote will be official. and the white house yesterday, vice president joe biden met with the representatives from the video game industry. biden is leading a task force to find that to the problems associated with the gun violence in the wake of the newtown shooting. common sense media is picking up the same issue in a recent poll asking parents and violence and media playing a significant roll from common sense media joining us live to share the results. thanks for being here, jim. i know that you have been speaking to the task force yourself? >> correct. now, let's frame the issue, it will be very important to talk

about the poll results that will be clear. they feel like they cannot shield their kids from the media violence. and 90% of them. to be exact. now, they said that the video game violence, it will be a violence and a problem for them. 88%, they want those ads for the violent games and movie trailers and stuff that you might be watching during the football game this weekend. now, stop. that will be a real big issue. but that's one thing that you want to say. they all need to understand why violence in media will be a part of a broader culture of violence that we have in this society and we talked to parents all the time across the country about that. now, this is not the only solution here as we are not saying all the problems that we have in newtown or elsewhere is caused by the violence on the immediate california clearly it will be the center of the debate now. >> if you concerned mainly with the media, we talked a lot about the parental responsibilities. and it looks like a lot of the parents that answered it here, they said that they can't do

anything about it. >> i don't think that they can't, but clearly parents are the first line of defense as you could not go out there today. now, they are watching the niners and the packers game. if you root for the packers it will be very bad. >> no comment. but the niners will win. >> and if you are watching that game, then you need to watch the ultraviolent ad for the movie trailers or the video game. that will be really offensive as you will be there on the couch. just time to show you how they will do. now, that will not be appropriate. and that's what happens right now. >> you can see why the video game industry would want to do that and advertise the games, a bunch of 25-year-olds in the audience. but you know that's the thing to look at the cultural amounts as you know it's a big issue. exactly what we talked about for the task force about. now, the industry, particularly the video game industry, they could be far more responsible as we asked them for a complete moratorium in all ads during sporting events and the other kinds of families and their programming. now, we asked them for much clearer labeling so that parents, they can decide what

their kids should and shouldn't play with. now, you will see games like this all the time and you will see seven to eight -- 7 to 9- year-old kids. no one is suggesting that is this the reason why some guys pick up a gun at sandy hook and kill 75 people. but is it a broader situation? and sometimes could be an additional factor? sure. but you need to have gun control and mental health services. that's a big one. but talk about the cultural violence. one of the few silver linings when you have tragedies like this with violence and guns to look in the mirror and say what's going on here? and with these poll results, they will make it clear about 90% of the parents, especially every parent out there knows it's an issue and they have a responsibility. but the industry has a responsibility too. and quite frankly, vice president biden, president obama and congress, they ought to be doing something about this issue as well as the gun control. >> i know that your group is measuring them to do so with a

pack as they satten o the tarmac in boston. recent problems including a big fuel leak are most likely the results of the quality control issues and not a flaw in the design. >> will president obama go against the republican and congress to make sure they don't default on their debts? that's what they want him to do. they are urging mr. obama to invoke the 14th amendment with the public death that should not be question. they think that will allow the president a way out of the debt limit jam. and the current cap on the government borrowing is at $16.4 trillion. the obama administration says that the only solution for the problem is for congress to raise that debt ceiling. some bloggers are online and they believe they have the answer to the nation's debt ceiling crisis that the treasury should simply mean a $1 trillion platinum coin. keep it in reserve, then use the money to pay bills.

bringing us northwesterly. if you are heading out there on monday, to expect, well, you know, if you have that there. it's suppose to be mostly sunny for the airport for the rest of the country, we will be looking at mostly sunny skies and denver with partly cloudy skies. 21 degrees. new york city will have rain. the pinpoint forecast for us, we'll look at 52 in santa rosa and napa and 41 degrees at fairfield today. but we will do that with crackling clear skies around much of the bay area and so the visibilities, they will be great too. just a beautiful day. as we look ahead to the nfl playoffs. we'll have green bay against 49ers with mostly clear and cool conditions. now, the high of about 40, well, not a high, but the current temperature at game time will be about 49 degrees. as we look at the week ahead, partly cloudy skies on saturday. and then for the rest of the week, we'll go with nothing, but sun. not even a puff of fog out there the way it looks right

from a wonderful loving home. she did end up at the shelter as she was, you know, pretty confused and lonely and everything. it's scary. >> right. she is used to being in somebody's home. and suddenly ends up in the shelter. so well trained and ready to be that there. >> yes, totally. a lap warmer. that's what she wants to do with you all day long. >> a lot of people that would like to do that with her and just the sweetest as we have not heard a peep out of her. tell her about the adoption process. >> well, we have about 70 dogs that will be available for the adoption. and anywhere from, you know, three pounds to 100 pounds. and the adoption applications and all the dogs will be online at this website. >> we try to keep it as simple as you can because you want to find great loving homes for all the senior dogs. >> thank you for bringing her in. and they will be going
