sports authority shops here in san francisco where certainly the red and gold will be flying off the shelves this morning. it's quite the year for sports in the bay area and the super bowl excitement is only going to continue until the big day. last night the 49ers arrived back in the bay area landing at san jose airport. the players came back to a city celebrating and bleeding the that red and gold. crowds spilled out into the streets. the cheers and chants could be heard throughout the city and it didn't take long for the super bowl t-shirts to hit the street as well. one guy was able to sell them for 20 bucks a pop. >> we got p t and we're going to the super bowl and this is smith and company. >> reporter: police did keep a close eye on fans and public

drinking. officers did confiscate liquor in the open. that count down in new orleans is on again. it's going to be an exciting time for the bay area as the san francisco 49ers try to take home that 6th super bowl win. live in san francisco, cate cauguiran cbs 5. and there is plenty of fan excitement in silicon valley, the future home of the 49ers. >> stay tuned. >> fans jammed sports bars, cheering for two teams, the 49ers in their win over atlanta and the san jose sharks who won their season opener in calgary. the 9ers fans are extra are excited since the team will be moving to santa clara very soon. >> we're going to love it. >> everyone's going to go, all our friends from the south way, we've been san francisco 49er fans.

>> lots of excitement there. the new 49ers stadium is under construction. it's scheduled to open in 2014. it was a real come from behind effort for the 49ers, down 17-0 in the first half. >> i was at a party in the east bay. people were like are you kidding me and they came alive. let's go to the 4th quarter. frank gore scored the second touchdown of the game and after being down the 17-0 score, the 9ers have their first lead. that was your ball game. for the 6th time in franchise history, the 49ers are off to new orleans and the super bowl. >> the best day of my life was when my kids came. this is one of them. i'm happy. it's been a long time. we came a long way as a team. you know, from the last to going to super bowl. >> he said a long road to get there. frank gore, good for him. by the way, as we mentioned, 6

6th trip for the 49ers to go to the super bowl. they ever never lost. looking good. >> we're hoping for a 6th. there was some violence following the 9ers falcons game. a fan was stabbed during a fight outside a georgia dome no at at that -- atlanta. the 49er fan stabbed him in the neck. the falcons fan was transported to the the hospital. his condition is not known at this time. no word on an arrest. and now we know 9ers coach jim harbaugh will be meeting his own brother in the super bowl. tom bradies and the new england patriots had to go through john harbaugh and the ravens to get l. it was a dog night but the ravens beat new england 28- 136789 and by the -- 28-13. and this is ray lewis' last game in football. >> when we walked up out of here, i told them, i said we'll

would be great. looking like another beautiful day. a lot of sunshine. starting off cool in spots. things changing off the coastline. we have clouds gathering out there as high pressure is beginning to weaken somewhat, but not before we squeeze in another nice day today. chilly in spots again. 20s and 30s in the valley. it's 55 degrees right now in pacifica. seeing winds out toward the coastline and that's enough to mix the atmosphere. temperatures in the 60s across the board by the afternoon with hazy sunshine and looking good over the next couple of days. although by wednesday, we have a chance to see showers and unsettled wet weather. let's check on traffic with e elizabeth. >> thank you lawrence and we e will take you outside. here's a live look at 101 traffic. we sent our photographer to san jose to show you the live conditions near the mckee exit. everything is flowing fine in both directions of northbound and southbound 101.

as people are expected to fill the national mall to watch. darrell r o oby came here and camped out overnight hoping to get a good spot. thousands of law enforcement officers and federal troops from around the country will be on hand to make sure everyone is safe. >> today's swearing in on the steps of the u.s. capitol is ceremony corral, held for the -- ceremonial held for the public and they require the official swearing in take place on january 20th. the president was officially sworn into office yesterday in a small ceremony at the white house. he followed that up with a candlelight ceremony sunday night where he said told's parties are not about him. >> what we're celebrating is not the election or swearing in of a president. what we're doing is celebrating

until one in the afternoon. our noon newscast will be preempted because of the live coverage. a freedom train departs from san jose to the birthday of mar -- martin luther king, they have organized the train ride from san jose, and meant commemorate the length of the walk from selma to montgomery. and here's the schedule, organizers urge people to get to the station by 8:30 since long lines are likely. the train will make stops in sunnyvale, palo alto. before arriving in san francisco at 10:55: round trip tickets are $10 for riders of all age as. after it gets to san francisco, there will be a march and parade from the

only a 13 minute drive are. westbound and eastbound moving at the limit. otherwise a live look at the nimitz. 880 near the oakland coliseum, 66 we have traffic camera there and northbound and southbound nice and quiet between downtown oakland and hayward. and other live traffic cameras, we are getting word of it this accident on northbound 208 approaching the 880 interchange. it sounds like a car went off the roadway, hit some trees, so one lane is blocked. i'll let you know if we start to see traffic stacking up on 238 or back to 580. it tends to bottleneck that area. traffic still super light and westbound 580, no brake lights coming through livermore. that's a check of your time saver traffic. today the public is invited to a funeral service for a police officer in galt who died in the line of duty last week.

35-year-old kevin tan was shot and killed when he went to question a burglary suspect. the gunman then killed himself. today's service begins at 11:00 a.m. at the adventure christian church in roseville. a uc davis researcher, has been formally booked in jail. david snider is being treated for injuries he suffered during the blast on thursday which forced evacuation of a hundred people. he's charged with posing explosive terms with the intent of making addition. and without cash to pay for the weapons buy back program, they instead will offer vouchers for the guns as they did last attitude when 827 weapons were all turned in. the buy back today is at the police station in san rafael and at st. andrews church in

marin city. other happenings, police are looking for three suspects in a fatal shooting at the bay fare b.a.r.t. station. a 50-year-old man was killed and a woman wounded after police say they were caught in the cross fire of two rival groups on saturday. one person is in custody. and in san francisco, a fire left two adults and two children without a home. fire breaking out in a second story unit late yesterday afternoon. fortunately, though, nobody was hurt. and a 3 million-dollar repair job on the bay bridge starts tomorrow. crews will be replacing a section of that protected fender damaged when that oil tanker sideswiped the base of one of the bridge tours a few weeks back. there was no structural damage to the are bridge itself. authorities now say at least 81 people were killed during that hostage drama at a gas facility in algeria. 32 of the dead are said to be islamist militants, one of the dead hostages is an american. two dozen foreign workers are unaccounted for.

the situation came to a violent end saturday when algerian troops laided the plant. the group claiming the responsibility vows it will carry out more attacks in the future. secretary of state condoleezza rice has a new job as a regular contributor for cbs news expected to offer insight on national and international news and debuted on face the nation and will be part of today's inauguration coverage. a 15-year-old boy is in custody in new mexico and charged with murder. >> detectives are trying to piece together what led to the shooting of five people in a home including three kids. it happened on saturday night. one of the victims was a chaplain who worked with firefighters and volunteered at a county jail. a passenger plane veered off the runway in new jersey after several tires blew out. it happened last night at the new ark apt, a united stated

express plane from rochester, it veered onto an expressway, and five crew members and 8 passengers were not hurt. not clear what may have caused the tires to blow out. and the battery that caught fire on a japanese airliner 787 was not overcharged. there could be problems with the wiring or charging components, investigators say. most boeing 787 jets around the world were grounded because of the fire. tomorrow investigators will meet with manufacturers of the battery chargers as they continue to try to pinpoint what happened. wall street closed today for the martin luther king holiday. >> the dow closed at 5 year high on friday and the nasdaq lost a point. there are plenty of earnings reports to check. google, apple, ibm and microsoft will report. and also reporting, starbucks. movie fans are you in the mood for a good scare, the movie with the most frightening
