and turkson is the son of a carpenter and fruit vendor in ghana. >> an african pope. >> reporter: boston's cardinal shaun o'malley is a dark horse candidate with a 25-1 odds. in order for any of this voting to take place, all of the cardinals have to be here in vatican city. so far most of them are here. about 100 of the 115. in terms of the start date going into the weekend, we have heard a lot say monday might be the day. we have heard now there could be a definitive date by midweek. anne-marie, still a lot of things in flux. reporting live in rome vinita nair. >> vinita, thank you very much. well, britain's queen elizabeth is set to be in good spirits this morning after she was hospitalized yesterday with a stomach ailment. the 86-year-old had been sick for several days. her public appearances have been called off for the week though. tina kraus has more from london's king edward's hospital. good morning, tina. >> reporter: good morning.

well, the queen is not one to make a fuss but she is here in the hospital this morning in london, and as the monarch grows old eric palace officials are careful, especially careful not to take any chances with her health. british police are on gord outside the london hospital where queen elizabeth spent the night with a stomach infection. palace officials say the 86-year-old monarch was admitted sunday afternoon with symptoms of gastroenteritis. she spent most of the weekend resting after she game illinois and canceled a meeting in wales. they canceled it hours before she was taken to the hospital for the first day in nearly a decade. >> the queen has no time for illness, she absolutely resists it. the fact that she was taken to hospital that really suggests it's something really important. she's the last one to go in for minor ailments. >> reporter: the palace spokesman said the queen was admitted for precaution and is

otherwise in good health. the queen is expected to spend a couple of days here at the hospital in london. this is where member os testify royal family are usually treated. the queen's granddaughter-in-law kate spent several days in the hospital with morning sickness. she'll likely be given fluids through iv to avoid dehydration, which is common with stomach ailments. her majesty who turns 87 next month has canceled all public engagements this week. she celebrated 60 years on the throne last year and aides say she will be anxious to get better and get back to work. the last time the queen canceled an engagement was last october we she had a bad back. she's hoping this stay will be a short one. it's been ten years since she's been in the hospital. the last time was for a knee operation back in 2003. anne-marie. >> hope she gets better soon. tina kraus in london, thank you. well, doctors say they have apparently cured someone stricken with a virus that causes aids. the patient is a baby born in

mississippi who is now 2 1/2 years old. the child has been off medication for about a year with no signs of hiv infection. doctors at the university of mississippi started treating the baby within 30 hours of birth with a strong three-drug cocktail, and they believe the fast action and strong dose of medication is what knocked out the virus. only one other patient has been considered cured of aids. well, another storm is bearing down on the north central united states this morning. the latest weather system is expected to move southeast from north dakota into minnesota, iowa, and illinois. north dakota could get up to a foot of snow, chicago could see up to 10 inches by late tuesday. hazardous travel conditions are expected as well. and washington goes back to work this morning with far less funding than it had last week. on friday president obama signed the order to cut $85 billion from the federal budget. it is part of the 2011 deal that

ended the standoff over raising the nation's debt ceiling, but those cuts were never supposed to happen. now leaders in washington are squabbling over restoring those funds. susan mcginnis is in washington this morning. susan? >> good morning, anne-marie. the finger-pointing continues over the weekend. both parties are now promising to retroactively turn back these cuts, but to get there, they will have to overcome a familiar hurdle. the gop won't agree to any plan that includes tax increases. the democrats say there's no deal without them. president obama called individual republican senators over the weekend to see if they would support a tax increase to offset the spending cuts, but the senate's top republican signaling gop support for more revenue is unlikely. >> i haven't heard a single senate republican say they're willing to raise one dime in taxes in order to avoid a spending reduction commitment that we made on a bipartisan basis just a year and a half ago.

>> on sunday the head of the president's economic council predicted the gop would face a backlash over allowing these cuts to go through. >> as the pain started to gradually spread to communities who need military spending to children who need health services i believe they will choose bipartisan compromise. >> the defense department will feel some of the harshest cuts with some of the military pay and afghan war. on sunday's "face the nation" senator john mccain warned the cuts will damage the military. >> if you deprive the military of the ability to train, the ability to have flight hours for our pilots and air crews, the ability of our people to have the right kind of equipment to fight with, then you are putting us in danger. >> well, two more budget

deadlines are still facing washington. on march 27th is the deadline to keep the government funded through the end of the fiscal year, and then in may congress needs to decide again whether to raise the debt ceiling. that's the issue, anne-marie, that started all these budget cuts in the first place. >> here we go again. susan mcginnis in washington, thank you. well today president obama is expected to nominate sylvia matthews burwell as the next budget director. she runs walmart's philanthropic foundation. she served as chief of staff for former treasury secretary robert rubin. well, coming up in the "morning news," cpr controversy. >> we need to get cpr needed. that's not enough. oklahoma? let me -- >> yeah. we can't do cpr. >> okay. then hand the phone to a passer-by. >> a nurse at a retirement home heard on an emergency 911 call refusing to administer cpr to an elderly woman. this is the "cbs morning news."

this morning new york city police are looking for t this morning new york citpolice are looking for the driver of a car that slammed into cab carrying an expectant mother and her husband. the young couple raizi and nahman glauber were killed but doctors were able to deliver their infant son. he is listed in serious condition. yesterday hundreds mourned the loss of the glaubers outside of their sin gong. the couple was in a cab headed to the hospital sunday morning when they were hit. witnesses say the driver and passenger fled the scene. and today demolition crews are expected to knock down what's left of a florida home swallowed by a sinkhole last week. more than half of the house in seffner has been raised, and efforts to find the man buried inside have ended. ashley porter reports. >> reporter: a large excavator bucket began digging to a

seffner home that's belonged to one family since 1974. for some the demolition was too painful for jordan wheeler to watch. he tried to save his cousin. >> i get a phone call and my mom because so terrified. didn't know what was going on. all i know was something about a hole. i got there in about five minutes. >> reporter: in just a few minutes thursday night 37-year-old jeff bush was swallowed inside a giant sinkhole. a cram inside the hole shows no signs of life. >> the objective is to try to clear as much of the house as possible to get a better view of what we have not been able to see, which is the actual opening itself. >> reporter: sinkholes often form without warning when water dissolves underground limestone. unable to support the surface weight, the ground collapses. engineers say this sinkhole is 30 feet wide and 60 feet deep, filled with clay and debris and likely to expand. >> once we have the area opened open the geotechnical engineers

will be able to look at it and give us some recommendations on,000 backfill the depression. >> reporter: right now the family is focusing on items pulled home from their family home, a treasured flag and their bible. >> it's just four walls. we have a lot of stuff that we cherished in this house, almost 39, close to 40 years. >> reporter: crews will focus the next part of their demolition on the bedroom right over the sinkhole. they're hoping to get a better sense of whether it threatens the stability of other homes. for cbs news, ashley porter, seffner, florida. officials in california say an elderly woman died after nurses at her retirement home refused to perform cpr. the 87-year-old collapsed last tuesday, and the nurse told the 911 operator she was barely breathing but the facility does not offer medical help. >> is there anybody that works there that can do it? we're going to let this lady

she tried out for kicker, but had never kicked a football in a competitive game. she did play some soccer in college though. but an injury limited her to just two kicks. neither went more than 20 yards. >> you know, i had -- i suffered probably a quad injury, and i tried staying off it and waited for today. i didn't even take kicks in warmup. >> well, to get into the tryouts silverman paid a registration fee of $275. in hockey now, the blackhawks keep on winning. in the third period, patrick kane scores the tying goal against the red wings, and then in the shoot-out, he scores the only goal. chicago over detroit, 2-1 for their ninth straight win. and the blackhawks have now earned at least a point in 28 straight games, tying the second longest streak in league history. and here's one of the best buzzer beaters ever that's become a big internet sensation. >> and he tosses it.

on wall street now, investors will be watching weather the dow will make a run for record territory. on friday the dow jones industrial average rose 35 points to close at 14,089. that's p 75 points away from its all-time high in october of 2007. former basketball star dennis rodman is back from his trip to north korea, and he brought back a message from dictator kim jong-un. rodman visited the rogue nation last week with members of the harlem globetrotters and camera crew from hbo. in an interview with abc's "this week on sunday" rodman delivered a message from the young dictator. >> i sat with him for two days and one thing he asked me to give obama one thing. he wants obama to do one thing. call him. >> he wants a call from president obama?

aster really brown, it comes four decades after his death. >> reporter: he's been called the greatest guitarist of all time, a performer with a style of play that redefined rock and roll. ♪ >> reporter: with his own style of showmanship. now 43 years after his death, there will be a new jimi hendrix album. "people's hell and angels" featured studio tracks made between 1969 and 1970 the height of his success. during those years he and his band were among the top grossing concert acts in the world. they had two top ten albums but hendrix was developing new music, incorporating jazz funk and blues into his sound. eddie cramer worked with hendrix

morning off. >> he's newsing. >> no, way, he's watching right now. >> this is a good day to hang out. cooler temperatures around the bay area. a little drizzle outside. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. we have rain headed in our direction. more on that come l up. right now, so far so good, we are accident free. really only construction to look out for this morning. i'll have more details in just a few minutes. we're following developing news this morning in the south bay. police are investigating a homicide in campbell. the city's first in years. an 18-year-old man was suffering from bullet wounds late last night. the victim identified as richard vega was found near dunston drive. a dark colored sedan was seen leaving the area and headed east. there's no description of a suspect and we'll have a live report at 5.

four shootings by officers ended with four people e dead. the first three shootings happened on saturday and early sunday another in hayward. at 3:30 in the morning, a police officer with a civilian ride along stopped to check out a parked car. the driver tried to speed away, hitting an open door of the parole car. the officer opened fire in defense of the civilian's life and his own. the driver was cap captured -- captured but the passenger was already dead. >> if people would comply, you don't end up in this situation. >> there were several other deadly incidents, early saturday morning, officers in san francisco shot a man who allegedly raised a gun at them, and later that day, officers in san jose chased a man and shot him. and several hours later, police in union city killed a gunman. the mystery surrounding a teddy bear with a purple heart medal left at a memorial for the santa cruz police
