detective eddie brown: a task force has been working for eight days. we've had 88 arrests. we've gotten 20-something guns off the streets and the streets are going back to the community. so, we'll keep doing what we have to do to keep the city of pittsburgh clean and drug-free. we're going to go up on the steps there. we got a call on brushton avenue. we got a drug transaction going on there. possibly five to six actors involved. this is on the edge of the city. so, it's like we're chasing them out of the city

the two guns, the wig. the one kid was out of the car with his arm out looking like he had a gun in his hand. we settled that when i seen the kid throw it down. all these people were screaming. they were getting ready to whack somebody. brown: i can go home feeling good tonight. we got a couple more guns off the streets. this is your sergeant saying you did a real good job tonight. i'm giving everybody three "good jobs done" and two "attaboys." my wife takes centrum silver. i've been on the fence about it. then i read an article about a study that looked at the long term health benefits of taking multivitamins. they used centrum silver for the study... so i guess my wife was right. and for the job we have to do. when people call the police, they should respect us because they put us in the situation. we didn't happen to be there. they should respect us for what we do. i put my life on the line every day with this uniform for those very people who don't respect me because one day, they will pick up the phone and call me or another officer for our help and, you know, it angers me, but i still do my job. i do what i have to do and i do do it for them. 3403, where you off to? germany: we're going to maripose street for a landlord/tenant dispute. ten-four. officer james rohm: how you doing? this is the situation. these people were supposed to have been out of this apartment earlier today. the only thing they up there doing was breaking stuff. they broke the window.

we're supposed to move up there today and they up there breaking windows taking their time. we been waiting 12 hours. their bags are still sitting there. we got furniture up there ready to go in the apartment but they up there lounging. germany: where's the landlord? we tried to call him. we can't get him at his office. germany: okay. here come miss brown. here she come now. she has a smart mouth. so do i. come in, jimmy. ( radio transmission ) germany: what's the problem here? woman: the problem is we're moving our stuff out. our lease ends today. apparently, my landlord promised these gentlemen that they could move in at noon... man #1: no, that ain't it. ...without mentioning it to me. so, when he called me up on thursday i said fine, at noon i could give them the bedroom and we'd finish cleaning out the front room during the day.

so that's what we've been doing all day. i turned a set of keys over to this gentleman... at 11:30 when the landlord came up. i said they could have the bedroom. he had ordered some furniture that will not fit in the bedroom. so it's sitting out in the hallway. we're still moving out. he came into the apartment and said he would put our stuff out in the street... this is all they been doing-- what she's doing now. sitting on her... we been waiting all day for like nine hours, ten hours. they all up there laughing thinking it's a joke and it ain't no joke 'cause we want to get in our apartment. the window is broke now. she was clapping and hollering to her friend. i have no desire to leave my apartment with these gentlemen... what do you mean you have no intentions of leaving? i have no intention of leaving to move stuff out

while these gentlemen are here because they might move all my stuff out in the street. men: no, we said we can help you. we come to help. we been waiting all day. i want them to leave us alone until we finish moving. we have these vans to take. we'll come back and take one more van and then we'll be out. now i'm truthfully afraid to leave my apartment for fear that i will come back and everything i still have will be gone. man #1: it ain't your apartment no more! man #2: ain't nothing in there but big boxes of books. they been doing this all day-- playing around. they know me and my girl friend-- we been anxious to get up to the apartment. they carrying out one box at a time. that's all i seen them carry is one little box. then somebody's supposed to move into the apartment we're moving out of. he calling but he can't come in

because we can't go to our apartment. woman: i understand their dilemma. i'm trying to get out. you really look like you understand. you really look like it. how much more do you have to move? about one vanload. man #2: we was going to help her. why don't you let them help? because the vans are full. where are you moving to? south oakland, down on long street. how many people are helping you move? there are five of us here. if we leave, i'm afraid that he'll break into the apartment. man #2: they all don't got to go to your other house. we could help move your stuff. some of your people could stay here and watch your property while y'all take the vans, unload, and come back. we trying to get that stuff out of there. we've waited too long. you people been standing around. i am sorry, i really do not want their assistance. then go upstairs

and move your stuff out on the street while we are here right now. man #1: we can't get in touch with him. you have three hours. it will be 12:00 anyway... we'll be done... which will be the next day. if you're supposed... we'll be out at 12:00. these gentlemen are anxious to get into their apartment. go move your stuff out. okay, fine. will you stay until someone comes back? germany: no. you're leaving somebody here... to watch your stuff. they're taking them two vans out of here. two of their people will stay here and keep moving the stuff to the street. and work together, and we'll get it all done. man #1: we've been trying. okay, fine. that's what we're doing now, okay? man #2: that's what we been trying to do. rohm: if you want to expedite things you can help them. we asked. germany: she don't want them to help, jim.

rohm: excuse me. man #2: i don't know why. i know they tired of running back and forth. we came to help him. that's my brother. rohm: i understand. the last hour, they bring like four boxes down. rohm: i understand, but being that she's in that mood just appease her a little bit, and you know... rohm: are you married? man #2: who? me? no. you have a girl friend? yeah. you know the scorn of a woman. germany: i resent that remark. rohm: you probably would. he seen him. the dude's coming down the hill now. he was up on davidson looking at his car. me and my buddy, we seen him... we'll go up and look. we even got a piece of his car. let's check them out. you see someone hit and run this hour of the night it's interesting to go talk to them. ( radio transmissions ) we got a guy that got hit and ran and here comes the alleged people that hit and ran them. we'll see what happened. you guys in an accident? no. don't lie to us. where's your cadillac, bud? eckle: these kids down there saidown cadillac. detemple: where you going to? i was walking down with him-- i was sitting on the corner-- he said, "were you driving?" i said, "no." he said, "well, we thought you were driving this car." where were you coming from when you came home--

san francisco along northbound 101 approaching the 80 split. it is 4:29. let's go back to the desk. we begin this morning with breaking news from the vatican. a new pope was not chosen this morning. we will take you live to st. peters square although it has been raining, large crowds have been spending hours waiting for some kind of signal there. now about 50 minutes ago black smoke came from the chimney of the sistine chapel. none of the 115 cardinals received the two-thirds vote necessary to become pontiff at this point. the ballots were burned together after two rounds of voting. the cardinals will continue their deliberations and continue voting today. coming up we will go to rome for a live report of day two of the papal conclave. con to developing news in the north bay. a fatal crash has shut down one lane of highway 101 south to petaluma. tara moriarty is live near the

marin-sonoma border county line. >> reporter: the driver of the truck that crashed has died. behind me you can see it's down there in the ditch. it's difficult to see the actual vehicle. we are waiting for the coroner to identify her so her family can be properly notified first and the coroner just arrived in the past five minutes. the chp says around 2:15 this morning they received a 911 call from a passenger inside that car who had been injured. we are just north of novato, south of petaluma on a very dangerous stretch of roadway. the woman was driving northbound on 101 when she drifted into the center divider for some reason. >> she may have drifted off the roadway in an attempt to over correct causing the vehicle to over tush and into the drainage ditch. we don't know if alcohol was a factor if she
