unit at the scene is asking for a taser 'cause i guess he's getting real violent. we need a couple of units there to control this guy. dealing with people on p.c.p. is a real difficult thing to do 'cause you really have to size up how they're acting. each one is kind of individually different just because of people being different. p.c.p. affects everybody differently with one kind of overriding theme at work: it really whacks them out. dispatcher: your message is garbled. jackson: okay. he's in the back bathroom. that door? everybody, turn your radios down except me. okay. i want you to go to the kitchen. we'll call him try to get him out. if he goes off, just go and light him up, okay? this is going to be kind of tough 'cause he's got blood all over him. ron, you go ahead and call him out. cliff, take the bathroom. who's cliff's partner? officer: i am. go
4:02 am
back him up with a nine in case he attacks. officer: johnny, come on. johnny, we need to talk to you. dana, be careful up there, buddy. okay, dana if you have to do that remember, your first four to ten rounds are probably not going to have a lot of effect, so you'll have to backtrack real fast. okay. i'm just saying, i'd rather have a window broken... is y'all going to take him to jail? right now we need an r.a. to look at him to make sure he's not going to bleed to death. jim, he is not in the bathroom. he's on the bedroom on the west side of the house. it should be the last bedroom on the west side. can you redeploy on the west side? officer: okay, i can see him from here. can you see his hands? i can't see them from my side. okay, jim. just keep an eye on him. we'll wait for the r.a. hopefully, they'll get here real soon. still no sight of them. verify that you have an r.a. en route to east 74th. dispatcher: yes, sir, we do.
4:03 am
dana, your partner's right behind you. dana, your sole job is what you got in your hand if it's needed, okay? cliff, your only job is taser. don't worry about anything else. cliff, you're first. officer: the r.a. is at san pedro and florence. that's a rog. start talking to him. see if we can get him to come out. johnny! we're trying to talk to him now. just watch yourself, jim in case he bails out that window. jackson: dana, don't you worry about gloves 'cause your only duty is that one thing, okay? officer: i might be able to kick and lead. jackson: we need that taser leading. we need somebody else to kick. who's going to kick? brian? he's second man and i'm third. jackson: jeff, you're the last one behind marchetti and contreras as part of the swarm, okay? we got to play it by ear once we get in that room. all right, jim disregard the window and we'll move in now. okay, guys let's do it. heads up, guys. everybody okay?
4:04 am
the room's about comfortable for six so we may have a few too many. dana, back off a little into the side of the room there. is that him? it's locked. okay, don't fight him for the door. okay, you got it. dana, let the taser go in first. taser first, taser first. okay, jim, we're in. officer: don't move, don't move. he's dusted, big time. and he's cut up. we're just going to bind him real quick. cut up big-time? yeah. it took a while to get in here. even though he's cuffed and legs are done he could still go on you so be careful. officer: hey, johnny, john... johnny, you're not going to jail. we just want to treat you. jackson: john, because of your cuts you need a doctor to look at you to make sure you're closed up so you don't bleed a lot. woman: he was at a bachelor's party and someone must have given him something. so the bachelor party was tonight? yes...
4:05 am
i didn't know it was tonight. when we got here he was on the street. where did you find him? over on 86th and broadway. and i went and he was in the street and i just pleaded with him and said, "johnny, this is mama mary. you know i love you." i said, "come home, johnny." and he listened to me, but then we got here, he just... was he tearing up the front yard and the bathroom or just inside the house? woman: no, he just went there and then i said "come on, get in the house." and then he just went off. he just went off. the ambulance is here now so they can treat him. we're not going to put him in jail. he needs help now, not jail. sorry about the gloves. good luck with him. thank you. jackson: those aren't friends you want around-- giving you p.c.p. without your knowing it. they could've had some real severe consequences. it could've gotten somebody killed. once he kicked the door shut i was hoping he wasn't getting something to fight. 'cause i was really... i really thought that might come. but you know it was a good plan. these things are all
4:06 am
that held it up. the problem of dealing with these dusters is you never know when they're going to go off on you and you're in a fight for your life. they'll throw you around like a rag doll. and a lot of times just pure luck that you can get somebody into custody that's on p.c.p. without having to fight them. and this time we were able to do it. we just got lucky.
