it's basically going all the time. and i really... i enjoy the action um, all the excitement of the job. i like staying busy. especially with the drug activity-- i like working that a lot. we just got dispatched on a car prowler. it's up here. apparently, there's a black male going into these u-hauls over here trying to get into them. i'll check it out. we were right around the corner when we got this call so we're going to check it out and see if this man's anywhere around here. i just don't know. my house is way across the street. you're just dealing with shapes and sizes. you weren't close enough... not that close enough to say, "that's the one." when we got here the gentleman that was here in the white crown vic he told me he had seen some guys messing around the truck. that's when... that's when we take off after the guy and we come back and he's gone. now we don't have any good witness. right now we'll have to try to get some fingerprints and see if we can't match them up. we'll take him to the station now since he didn't want to stop and talk to us.

i just watched my dad work with them and seeing how my dad has had to handle a couple of dog incidents i guess, in his career... i've also seen my partner, in basically the last month have four or five different run-ins with dogs. it makes you aware that you need to be really careful when you walk into a place because you never know. there's a lot more to watch for than just the actual people in the house because the majority of people have pets. okay, we're en route now to an animal call. apparently an off-duty security officer found a nine-foot boa constrictor. it's running around in the weeds. we'll check it out call animal control and see what they can do about it.

( seat belt alarm ringing ) huth: since it's my birthday you got to take all the paper work we get tonight. my uncle was a police officer for a long time. i always looked up to my uncle when i was growing up. that's probably one of the reasons i wanted to become a police officer. my mom is overly proud of me. she's always been proud of everything i've done to be honest with you. she worries, my wife worries. i got two children. they're always telling me to be careful when i go to work. they know what goes on. they see it, but all in all, they support me. they know this is what i want to do. i've dedicated my life to it, and, uh... they definitely are supportive of me

and they're constantly bragging so they're a little proud. that's another one of our squad members here in front of us. they're sending three of us down here due to the nature of this area. it came out as "shots fired." we've just been updated-- it's now a shooting. we don't have any further information than that at this point. this is a very bad area for us down here. we have people throwing bottles at us, and uh... there have been several people shot down in this area. it's known for narcotics trafficking. he upstairs bleeding to death. who's got the gun?

no, i didn't see nothing. you saw their car. you know who they are? some boy named ed... and i don't know the other one's name. he started shooting from the grass. we all ran up there. then he started chasing my brother up the stairs. they got the gun they pulled the gun they run towards the grass. one of them probably had the gun 'cause they was all in a circle. as they hit the grass... that's when they start shooting. can you place somebody right here? well, up in this grass. was it an automatic? it was a revolver. it was long. verhoff: was he shooting on the steps or the sidewalk? he started right here. he started shooting... where was he sitting? he shot him from here and your brother was where? sitting on the stairs. sitting on the stairs? when he took that first shot-- bam!-- we just took off running. what we basically had when we pulled up--

we had a party shot. he was shot on the steps out in front of the place. apparently four parties got out of a car. one of the parties shot the subject on the stairs. the subject was then rushed upstairs as the suspects drove off. he got shot in the chest. he's in stable condition. so it's not life-threatening at this time. he's in stable condition. all we got right now is four black males in a red chrysler, probably. that's all we got at this point. they know more than what they're telling. we believe there might be a little gang involvement. some of the guys that were hanging out on the corner with the victim are known gang members. there's probably more to it than what they're saying. officer: i've got him at gunpoint. dispatcher: gunpoint, 132 and bush. cover is code three.

fled that nissan you saw in the road, and around 3:00 an that car crashed into a muni bus and we are told it is a stolen car and the suspects were involved in a carjacking there. the suspects were driving around the city and attempted to pull it over and that's when they ended up in a chase and the car ended up here on vanness and union. you can see that one lane is closed to traffic and it is still very early in the morning so there is not a lot of cars going by. we just spoke with a neighbor but he said he didn't hear the crash but he heard the fire hydrants spewing water and police this morning are looking for two suspects who stole a vehicle, lorraine blanco ktvu

gunfire, tara? >> reporter: police are processing all of the information and there were two dozen bullet casings, just to give you an idea of the intensity of this shooting, police were able to find at least 24 casings as we mentioned and the rear window of a white car was blown out by gunfire and at least two bullets pierced the side door and officers say gunfire erupted and the two cars crashed. >> we discovered four victims at the shooting, two fled on foot but collapsed around the block. multiple casings all different sizes and injuries were nonlife- threatening. >> several different caliber casings were used in the shooting
