to say. right now they're declining to give the path that they show. a florida-bound flight turned terrifying thursday when the pilot aborted the takeoff. the jet was about to lift off when the tire blew and the nose gear collapsed. there were no injuries though two passengers requested medical

attention as todd quinones reports -- >> reporter: video captured the chaotic moments as passengers used the inflatable chutes to get off the flight. the 41 passengers and flight on board were bound for ft. lauderdale, florida, when the tire of the front landing blew and the pilots aboarding the takeoff. tonight we talked to several a personals who were on board the plane. >> the second we went up it came crashing down and everyone started screaming. >> bumping and we noticed we were going back down and then stopped and, you know, smelled the smoke and then they said evacuate the plane and everyone started panicking. >> we were taxiing and the guy said to me i can see a plane crashing. of course, you think the guy's making it up and you look out the window and see sparks and

flames. not flames. let's correct that. sparks and a thick cloud of dust. >> emergency personnel were alerted something went wrong. >> something's going on at the runway here. >> ressa silverman's 23-year-old daughter rachel was also on board. she came to the airport after her daughter called her and frantically told her mom what happened. >> she said she smelled a lot of gas and she was very nervous and she was afraid that the plane was going to explode and they said finally, you can evacuate and she said she went down the chute and ran. >> that was kyw's todd kquinone reporting. at least five people are still missing in harlem following wednesday's explosion and double building collapse. crews continued to search the rubble for more victims this

about the defect back as far as 2001 but continued to build the vehicles anyway. >> let me start by asking you about the gm recall. >> reporter: on capitol hill thursday the recall was the first order of business in the senate. secretary of transportation anthony fox was asked why the national highway traffic safety administration or nhtsa investigated problems with some of the gm cars in question three times but never demanded a fix. >> in this case, the three crash investigations that were done were inconclusive. now, as we learn more information, we may learn that our process for reviewing

situations such as this need to be improved. >> reporter: in an updated letter filed with regulators, gm now says they knew about an issue with ignition switches in 2001 in saturn ion, yet a comparable ignition was put on cobalts starting in 2004. a service bulletin was issued to dealers in 2005 saying a heavy key ring or jarring can turn the engine off which disables the airbags. nhtsa had access to that but no recalls were ordered. clarence ditlow. >> there's been a recall. absolutely have to fix that. >> reporter: the center for auto safety sent a letter to nhtsa and enclosed this chart. it shows the number of deaths when airbags did not deploy in chevy ions and cobalts.

carter evans explains how the hunt for the missing passenger jet has gone viral. >> basically we're looking for anything that stands out. >> reporter: l.a. filmmaker craig santee has spend 12 hours scanning satellite images on the website. in your search so far what have you found? >> so far i've found 12 fishing vessels, and i've found about 11 things that i cannot explain what they are, but they don't look natural. >> reporter: the images come from five satellites owned by colorado-based digital globe. they're covering the same areas being searching by boats and plays. shay harnoy is the contributor. >> we have people from all time zones, all languages all trying to solve this mystery. >> reporter: so far they've searched 1.2 millions of images. >> we're putting them together using our statistical algorithm. it's a computer program that's able to identify who's reliable, who's not relyleable and what's
