jacket at augusta. >> and green again for the second time in three years. bubba watson is masters champion. captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for monday, april 14th, 2014. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm marlie hall in for anne-marie green. we begin with a deadly attack outside two jewish facilities in kansas occurring on the eve of passover. a man with a long history ofnn started shooting sunday afternoon in overland park, a suburb south of kansas city. according to the southern povgerty law center, miller was a one-time grand dragon o of the carolina nights of the ku klux klan and spent decades speaking out against jews. in 2010 he attempted to ran for

senate in missouri and attempted to run some controversial radio ads. >> you think jews are your friends, don't you? well, i think again. >> the fbi and atf raided miller's house sunday but as wendy gillette tells us, the police aren't ready to label the attack a hate crime. >> four or five shots have been fired through the front door. there's a male with a shotgun, also a suzue zoody. police say the man first opened fire behind a jewish community center in overland park killing two males who were inside or near a car. family members identified them as a man and his grandson. he then drove to a retirement community where he shot another female victim to death in the parking lot. they say he shot at two others but missed. officials say it's unclear if

the centers were targeted for their religion. >> it's a vicious act of violence and, you know, obviously two jewish facilities, one might have to make that assumption. >> reporter: reports say he made anti-s antisee mitik remarks after he was arrested. he may have been armed with as many as three guns, a shotgun, a handgun, and an assault rifle. w he was arrested in a nearby elementary school. the school was under lockdown after the shooting. >> i couldn't help by think about sandy hook, looking around at these very young children and i was really scared. >> dr. corcoran and his grandson were methodist. the 14-year-old was also an eagle scout. the third victim has not been identified yesterday. president obama released a statement calling the shootings

heartbreak injured. police say eight buildings were damaged including several mobile homes and ooh high school. a huge twister touched down for a moment about 75 miles south of oklahoma city. officials say at least three tornados wore through the area on sunday. some power lines were knocked down but through are no reports of injury or other damage. and a mid-april snowstorm in nebraska. traffic ground to a halt in the central part of the state. several flights out of grand island were canceled. police say two trucks jackknifed on the interstate and blocked traffic in both directions. eric fisher, chief meteorologist at wbz in boston takes a look at what's happening today. >> we saw a lot of severe weather during the day on sunday. now the storms are focusing more

toward the gulf coast as we start the week. heavy rain, a chance for isolated tornadoes, certainly damaging wind gusts and large hail. birmingham, jackson, over toward shreveport watching the skies today. the storm tracking eastward. lots of heavy rain across the east. we could see pockets of flooding. then as we head toward tuesday, this heavy rain is right along the east coast. could be disruptive to travel here from boston down toward d.c. that is snow on the map. the storm system bringing in enough cold area the back edge should feature in some spot as few inches of snowfall. look at the temperatures by tuesday. a major divide. the mild air, 60s and 70s to the east but 30s, 40s, 50s to the west. it's a sign that winter is not completely done just yet. i'm eric fisher, cbs news. a deadline today for pro russian

happened in crimea last month when separatist demonstrations were a pretext. but thousands of russian troops in unmarked uniforms could seize government installations and annex the region. the u.s. threatens new sanctions if that happens. it denies it's involve and blames the west for interference in politics. marlie? >> thanks so much. for first time crews searching for missing malaysia flight 370 will launch a sub to the bottom of the ocean floor today. the u.s. navy's bluefin-21 can create a 3-d sonar map and low skate any debris on the ocean floor. it will serve an area about 230 miles. it's located west of perth, australia. officials say it could take months to scan the area. a utah mother has been arrested, accused of killing her seven babies.

hospitalized. >> second degree burns on both of my hands, down my left side and the bottom of my right leg. >> reporter: when you look at the footage and you see how bad the crash was -- >> surreal. i mean i survived a flaming bus that exploded and i was in the front. >> reporter: miles wants to major in history or computer signs. his father says his future was as bright as all those who rode that charter bus it's a difficult thing to deal with to say, wow, i'm glad my son is alive and breathing and at the same time you can't imagine sending your child away to a college for a joyous event and they're not there at the end of the day. >> reporter: saturday night his family came to a makeshift memorial near the crash site. >> i never thought i was going to miss someone they loved so much. he took a part of me with him and i don't think i'm ever going

week drove down asian markets today. tokyo's nikkei lost half a percent after hitting its lowest points in six months in mid trading. hong kong's hang seng gained a fraction. here on wall street the report begins with earnings from citigroup. last week the dow fell 385 points, and the nasdaq dropped 127 points. if you're racing to finish your taxes, there's some good news from the irs. your chance of getting audited is lower than it's been in years. budget cuts and new responsibilities mean that fewer agents will be auditing returns, so audits will be even lower than last year's rate of less than 1%. beef prices are at their highest level in more than 25 years. the average retail cost of fresh beef reached $5.28 a pound in february. a combination of factors pushed prices up including drought, smaller herds, and growing export demand. prices are expected to stay high

for a couple of years. and for those with a bigger bottom line, allegiant air has rolled out a new seat dubbed the giant seat. they offer more than 36 inches of leg room and a width of 25 inches. that compares to a typical 17.5-inch width on their economy seat. allegiant charges $50 to $60 more for the giant seat depending on the route. marlie? >> jill wagner at the new york stock exchange. jill, thanks so much. a florida woman is recovering today after a frightening bear attack. wildlife officials say terri frana went out on her back porch in lake mary near orlando saturday to check on her children. that's when she was bitten by one of five black bears rummaging through the trash. >> she received bite wounds to the head, bite wounds to the arms, shoulder, and upper thigh area. >> she received 30 staples in her head.

,,,,,, here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. in sports, bubba watson is going to have to clear some space in his closet. the florida native captured his second green jacket at the masters on sunday. omar villafranca has the details from augusta national. >> reporter: in dramatic fashion bubba watson won his second

masters championship. watson, the 12th ranked player in the world started the day at tied at five under, but he had to fend off a charge by 20-year-old jordan spieth. the young texan wowed the crowd at the fourth, but watson fought back with four birdies on the front nine. >> here he comes. >> oh, beautifully gauged. >> wow. bubba watson, the leader alone. >> reporter: on the back nine he kept his cool, his experience guiding his shot gave him another masters title. >> it's overwhelming. as a kid you want to be on the pga tour. 9 years old. six wins. two of them happen to have green jackets wrapped around them. >> reporter: watson went to the college at the university of georgia, less than 100 miles

from the masters. playing the masters is more like playing in front of a home crowd. >> great, great. i was pulling for bubba absolutely. being tiger wasn't here, he was my next favorite. >> east coast guy, everybody's rooting for him. we're from california and rooting for the california guy but happy to see bubba watson green. >> reporter: watson earned his second green jacket in three years and payout of more than $1.6 million. omar villafranca, cbs news, augusta. in baseball the yankees and red sox playing a rubber match in their series in the bronx. new york's carlos beltran smacked a two- r that ju s the left field fence. that gives the yankees the lead. and in the eighth inning ichiro suzuki robbed david ortiz of an extra-base hit with a hit that hit the wall. the yankees go on to win, 3-2. in the nba, a possible final preview between the pacers and thunder. indiana's lance stephenson comes up with his fifth triple-double of the season, and the pacers win, 102-97.

here's today's top stories. a former leader of the ku klux klan has been arrested for killing three people near kansas city, kansas. police say 73-year-old frazier glenn miller opened fire outside two jewish facilities. he's been charged with first-degree murder. and severe storms whipped through the southwest and plain states sunday. at least three tornadoes touched down in southern oklahoma, and a snowstorm snarled traffic in central nebraska. an ohio man convicted of harassing his neighbor served an unusual sentence on sunday. a judge forced him to spend hours at a busy intersection while holding a sign declaring he is a bully. his neighbor accused him of bullying her and her disabled children for years. he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges but calls

the judge's sentence unfair. the boston marathon will take place exactly a week from today. on sunday, a coast-to-coast charity run crossed the finish line in boston. it was to benefit the victims of last year's bombing attack. paul burton of our boston station wbz reports. >> reporter: with their arms lifted high, runners and survivors took part in the one run for boston. there were tears, hugs, chants, and dancing. as boston marathon survivors crossed the finish line together. >> it's so heartwarming to be able to see this. >> reporter: john odom was there when the race began in santa monica in march. the journey took runners through 14 states as a fund-raiser for the one run.
