niger jan school grows, boco haram, killed hundreds of people during a brutal attack. monday's attack was in northeast nigeria, the same area where the school girls were abducted. advisers from at least four countries including the u.s. are headed to nigeria to help in the search. the mass kidnapping has ignited a social media campaign. first lady michelle obama joined in tweeting it's time to bring back our girls. and malala yousafzai says the world must speak out. >> if we remain silent, this will spurt. it will happen more and more. if you want to stop it, then we have to speak. and i'm already very sad when i think so much time has passed and these girls are still in this hard situation. >> nigerian police have offered $300,000 reward for information leading to the school girls' rescue.

debora patta reports from the capital. >> reporter: nigeria appealed for help for the first time since the kidnapping of the girls three weeks ago. after kidnapping of eight more girls, anger boiled over. after a slow response, the nigerian government has been deeply embarrassed just as world leaders arrivinged for a meeting designed to attract foreign investment. parents of the girls believe that it's overshadowed the rescue efforts. >> the hope of finding my daughter or our daughters lies is in the hands of the government. >> reporter: the radical islamic group has a strangle hold over northern nigeria where they're trying to overthrow the christian government. more than 1,500 have died in the violence this year. schools are a frequent target. one of the girls who managed to

escape said armed men in uniform burst into their rooms while they slept. at first they mistook them for nigerian soldiers but she quickly realize they'd were wrong when they set fire to the school and stole all their food. they told us to get in truck, she said, but my friends and i jumped out and ran back home because we realized they didn't look innocent. anguished parents believe the girls are being held in the dense forest northeast of the village. tl the kidnappings have now become a global concern. the united states, britain, and france have awe offered to send teams to assist with resources and intelligence to help the nigerian government in their search and rescue operations. debora patta, cbs news, nigeria. and now to ukraine. russian president vladimir putin looks like he's trying to tamp down the crisis. putin said he is withdrawing troops from the ukrainian border, but the pentagon says so far there's no evidence of a

russian pullback. and russian separatists say they'll consider a request from putin to delay sunday's vote on independence. millions of ballots have been prepared, and in a thirst, putin says this month's presidential elections are a step in the right direction. congress is looking into mismanagement of the health care systems. the v.a. secretary is under fire and has called for a full investigation, but eric shinseki says he won't step down. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> good morning. yeah, several republican senators here on capitol hill are calling for shinseki to resign saying the veterans administration must be held accountable for what happened to many patients at several of its hospitals. that includes one in phoenix where there are claims that dozens of people may have died because of delays in their care. secretary of veteran affairs eric shinseki says he won't resign amid accusations of

corruption, mismanagement, and death for facilities designed to take care of veterans who fought for their country. >> i take every one of these incidents seriously and we're going to go and investigate. the most serious of these were in phoenix. >> about 40 veterans allegedly died at the hospital in phoenix. a whistle blower said they were on a secret waitlist for care to hide the backlog. debbie allen's husband mel was a vietnam patient there. >> when mel needed the v.a. and needed his country to help him in his time of need, they turn their back on him? >> a house committee meets today to consider issuing a subpoena for more information from the phoenix hospital. at least five other hospitals across the country are under fire. for how they treat millions of veterans each year. the nation's largest veterans group, the american legion, wants shinseki to step down.

>> if this was private sector, you'd be fired. if this was military, you'd be relieved of duty, and he's done neither. >> shinseki has placed several officials linked to the phoenix medical center on administrative leave. now at a veterans clinic in colorado, investigators say they found workers who were found to have falsified records showing veterans were going to get their appointments near the day. establish a committee to address the attack on the u.s. consul land in benghazi libya, specifically the obama administration's response to the attack. four americans including chris stevens were kill and the public says the white house mislead the the nation in oert to protect the president. and today more severe weather is expected across the plains and mississippi valley. hail, damaging winds and heavy rain are on tap from texas to wisconsin. tornados are a threat to

minnesota, wisconsin, and iowa. and at least two tornadoes touched down yesterday afternoon in northeast colorado. large hail accompanied the storms, but there are no reports of injury or damage. strong winds from a severe thunderstorm caused a freight train to derail in central kansas last night. 33 cars were forced off the track. two people were on board, but no one was injured. president obama got a firsthand look at nature's destructive power. the president visited arkansas communities that were destroyed by tornados last month. in vilonia, mr. obama assured victims the federal government would help. more than 50 homes were destroyed and 15 killed when the storm hit the state of april 27th. and coming up on the "morning news," a house fire mystery in tampa, and a wedding party photo interrupted. two men strip off their suits to help a fisherman in trouble. this is the "cbs morning news." d by a heart valve problem.

. a home owned by former tennis star james blake is the scene of a grew many crime. four people were found dead in a mansion in an exclusive community of tampa. the bodies of two adults and two teens were discovered after the home went up in flames early wednesday morn. authorities now say the fire was intentionally set. the $1.5 million home caught fire just before 6:00 a.m. wednesday. alarmed neighbors flooded 911 with calls for help i was walking my dog and as i

walked by, the house exploded, and i ran home to call people. oh, my god. >> the wind-driven fire burned for hours, holding firefighters at bay in the afternoon. when they gained access to the home, they found four charred bodies inside. >> it destroyed potential evidence of what may have caused the fire or what may have lead to the deaths of these individuals. >> james blake has been renting the house to darryn campbell and his wife and two teenaged children. investigators have not identified the bodies, but they did indicate a murder/suicide is a possibility. >> on two of the victims, there is upper body trauma. we have confirmed that there were also various fireworks, small commercial-type fireworks throughout the residence. we also have confirmed the fire was started intentionally by an unknown accelerant.

an investigation, and the marijuana gets banking system. jill wagner's at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, anne-marie. asian got a boost when they lowered the rates. tokyo's nikkei added 1%. hong kong's hang seng gained half a percent. on wall street investors are expected to react to rebounding trade numbers in china. the dow rose 117 points wednesday. the nasdaq lost 13 points. americans borrowed more in march. the federal reserve reports said consumers used their credit cards for mar than $1 billion in new purchases and car and student loan borrowing rose $16.4 billion. the $17.5 billion combined increase is the biggest monthly jump in more than a year. the house voted to hold a former internal revenue service official in contempt by congress.

all voted on the measure and most democrats voted against it. lois lerner was cited for invoking her fifth amendment right not to answer about her role in the tax exempt status for tea party groups. colorado has approved the first financial system for the legal marijuana industry. the bill sets up a network of uninsured cooperatives designed to give pot businesses a way to access basic banking services. until now it's been a mostly cash only business because banks refuse to open accounts for them. and nintendo's social simulation game, tomodachi life, will not include same-sex marriage when it comes to north america next month. the company says the video game is not a real-life simulation and was never intended to make any form of social commentary. it does include personal relationships but not same-sex couples. anne-marie? >> all right. jill wagner at the new yoorew y stock exchange. thanks a lot, jill.

in sports the nba may have hit los angeles clippers opener donald sterling with a lifetime ban for making racist comments but the league may not be able to force sterling's family to sell the team. his wife shelley tells the "los angeles times" she believes she's entitled to continue owning the team because the league's sanctions do not apply to her. well, the clippers in oklahoma city for game two in their series against the thunder, kevin durant accepting his mvp trophy before the game. with less than a minute before the game begins to play, the lights go out at the chesapeake energy center. the teams played the remainder of the half in the darkened arena. durant finished with 31 points and the thunder tie the series with a 112-101 lead. in the east washington ties up. roy hibbert breaks out of a funk to score a season-high 28 points. indiana takes game two. 86-82. the houston texans are on the clock. houston holds the number one overall pick in the nfl draft,

black market synthetic drugs. federal agents hit drugmakers and sellers across the country on wednesday. bigad shaban has more on the raids. >> police. >> reporter: federal agents conducted raids in 29 states as part of the nation's largest law enforcement agency targeting synthetic drugs. hundreds of thousands of ready-to-sell paths were seized. each contain dangerous chemicals designed to add to the highs of marijuana and ecstasy. >> good parents are losing good kids because they tried it once or twice and now they're dead. >> reporter: they focused drug manufacturers, retailers. law enforcement busted shops like this one in new mexico. but the largest raid took place in alabama where agents seized drugs from this gas station. the products are commonly sold over the counter. sellers are able to skirt government regulation since the drugs are often labeled "not for

one of the best known boxing trainers in the world is fighting his own personal battle, and it may have been brought on by the sport he loves. bill whitaker spoke to him. >> reporter: there on the second floor of a modest strip mall in hollywood sits freddy roach's wild card gym. at five bucks day, it draws sweat-drenched boxers. there's a reason they come here. freddy roach is perhaps the best in the game, a six-time trainer of the year whose worked with champions like mike tyson, oscar de la hoya, and for more than ten years, popular welterweight champ manny pacquiquiapacquiao.

a notorious brawler from a dead end boston neighborhood roach admits he overstayed his welcome inside the ropes. >> two years after i retired, i ended up getting parkinson's. >> so the sport you love may have triggered your parkinson's. >> yes, for sure. >> reporter: roach's diagnosis, trauma-induced parkinson's, has left the 54-year-old with mild hand tremors and slurring speech, but so far he's avoided more serious symptoms. he takes medication and botox injections to control spasms, but doctors also credit roach's rigorous workout routine. heavy on hand-eye coordination drills. >> when i get in the ring, i have no symptoms whatsoever. >> reporter: still, in the methodical mayhem that is boxing, an unavoidable question shadows freddy roach. do you have any concerns that
