this morning some personnel at the u.s. embassy in baghdad are being relocated. islamic militants continue their push toward the capital and claim they've executed hundreds of iraqi soldiers. the state department has issued a travel warning for u.s. citizens. and it's reported that the u.s. may seek the help of iran to control the deteriorating situation. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> marlie, good morning. as the threat from the islamic militants grows, so does the support from washington for the u.s. to coordinate its response with iran. u.s. officials are sending nearly 100 soldiers and marines to secure the american embassy in baghdad. some staff members have been evacuated to some more stable parts of the country as islamic militants push toward the capital. the extremist group has already captured a large part of northern iraq and said it was behind yesterday's deadly blast in baghdad. over the weekend the group posted gruesome pictures online

that it claims shows more than 1,700 captured iraqi soldiers being executed. the images and death toll can't be verified. the white house is considering possible u.s. military action. >> my first thing to recommend to the president is get your intelligence group back on track making sure we have the intel for whatever options we have that are going to be accurate. >> republican lindsey graham who serves on the senate armed services committee says the instability may force the u.s. to form an alliance with its long-time adversary iran. >> we're going to have to have something with the iranian that says let's coordinate our efforts but put a red line to the iranians. don't use this crisis to take territory from the iraqi people. >> iraq says it is training troops to fight back against isis. now the u.s. embassy in iraq has about 5,000 personnel. the state department says a

substantial portion of those will remain in place. americans are told to avoid all but essential travel there. marlie? susan mcginnis in washington. thanks so much. holly williams joins us now by phone from northern iraq. she's in the town of erbil. holly, these pictures released over the weekend, while they haven't been verified, they seem to be of a lot of concern. >> reporter: yeah. good morning, marlie. hundreds were captured last week. now the militants are posting online and they seem to be showing hundreds of iraqi soldiers forced to lie in a ditch and then shot. they can't be verified. they may have been doctored, but they appear to show execution, and the u.s. government has condemned these as a true depiction of blood lust and accuse the islamic

militants of trying to divide iraq along religious lines. remember that the militants are sunni muslims while most of iraq's army is made up of shiite muslims. >> what can you tell us about isis and their leadership? >> reporter: well, the group's leader, he's so elusive that we have a couple of grainy images of him. but he now commands several thousand men across iraq and syria. he's trying to establish based on islamic law. now he's so feared that some people have dubbed him the new osama bin laden and the u.s. has placed a $10 million bounty on his head. holly? >> holly williams in erbil, iraq. thank you so much. in kenya, red cross was attacked.

authorities blame an al qaeda-linked group al shabaab. over night israelis arrested dozens of palestinians as they search for three missing israeli teenagers. the students vanished from the west bank on thursday. as charlie d'agata reports, israel blames hamas. >> reporter: israeli military leased this video showing a search house to house for the missing teenagers. they searched in and around the city of lebron hebron. they vanished thursday afternoon while hitchhiking home from a religious high school in hebron.

he's a dual american citizen. she says he should know the world is turning the world upside down in the search. >> god willing we'll be able to celebrate their return safely soon. >> reporter: israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu put the blame squarely on the militants and warned of serious consequences if the men aren't released soon. senior hamas leaders were arrested. although the military praised it, they haven't released them. they plan to use them as bargaining tools in exchange for a release of prisoners. thousands of jewish worshippers gathered at the western wall for a mass prayer. fears are growing about the fate of the teenagers. army officials can't even confirm whether the young men are dead or alive. charlie d'agata, cbs news, london.

are you okay? are you okay? we've got to get out of here. >> scary moments for some storm chasers in kansas on saturday. hail the size of softballs cracked the windshield on their vehicle. severe storms in the northwest part of the state knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers and damaged irrigation equipment. warm weather and low humidity today could fan a raging wildfire in central california. the fast moving fire broke out friday night near bakersfield, and has burned about 2,000 acres. 1,000 homes are threatened. at least two structures were destroyed. officials say the wildfire is only 10% contained. on the "cbs moneywatch," major checkout problems at target stores, and amazon gets into the smartphone business.

jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, marlie. lots of frustrated customers at several target stores last night. the cash registers went down in five states in new york city. some customers tweeted photos of the long lines. one said there were 26 families waiting for two registers. target apologized for the delay and said it was not a security issue. asian stocks were mixed amid the conflicts in iraq and ukraine. tokyo's nikkei lost 1%. hong kong's hang seng lost a fraction. here on wall street, all eyes will be on the federal reserve. the central bank has a policy meeting this week and investors will be looking for hints the fed is going to raise interest rates. last week the dow fell 148 points. the nasdaq dropped 10 points. amazon will unveil a new product on wednesday. it is rumored to be a smartphone with 3-d pictures. it would likely allow users to instantly stream pictures.

one year after falling to the miami heat in game seven of the nba finals, the san antonio spurs exact their revenge. after a sluggish start in game five last night, san antonio takes control and wipes out miami to win the nba championship. the spurs notched their fourth double-digit victory in the series, winning 104-87. it's the fifth title in spurs history and star tim duncan has been there for all of them. but he says this one is the most special. >> for whatever reason, it is sweeter than any other, whether it be because of the time frame because i'm coming toward the end of my career, because i can have these two here really remembering and enjoying the experience. all those things make it that much more special.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. this morning it's unclear if a man who disrupted a jetblue flight over the weekend will face criminal charges. the passenger ignored pleas from his family to calm down. he started screaming and lunged at flight attendants about 90 minutes into a flight from new york to las vegas on saturday. the crew was able to restrain him, and the plane was diverted to detroit. the music world is reacting to the death of one of the best loved voices in radio.

casey kasem was the host of "american top 40." he was 82 years old. as carter evans shows us, kasem's final days were part of an intense family feud. >> reporter: in the days when disc jockeys ruled the music industry, casey kasem was king. his voice broadcast to every city in america. >> this is "american top 40 and our countdown begins." >> reporter: initially only seven stations carried the show. it was a sentimental format for a culture full of rebellion, but kasem who said he wanted to be the ed sullivan of radio thought there was a place on the dial for a wholesome weekly countdown. he was right. kasem hosted a.t. 40 for more than two decades. his most famous segment was a personal connection he made every sunday. a long distance dedication to an arkansas woman to an english man she left behind in
