independence. yes or no? >> we get the answer this week. captioni >> this is captioning sponsored by cbs this is the "cbs e this is the "cbs evening news." >> #01: good evening >> good evening, i am jeff glor, british prime minister david cameron did not mince words in a nationally televised address today he says his country must destroy isis. the speech came one day after isis released video of the execution of british aid worker david hanes, the group says they are also holding another worker alan hennings. en two americans have been killed on camera by isis. we have two reports this evening, we begin with charlie d'agata in london. >> british leaders in downing street were summoned to an emergency meeting. with david cameron, who described as pure evil the beheading of david hanes by isis militants. >> they boast of their brutality. they claim to do this in the name of islam. that is nonsense.

islam is a religion of peace. they are not muslims, they are monsters. >> mr. hanes in the balkans where he lived back in 2003. >> our office normally goes across to belgrade. >> his family said he was devoted to helping people in trouble, and today his brother mike said the reach of isis expends far beyond the war zone. >> robert, remains the biggest threat to the wholesale safety of every person in the world. >> the prime minister praised the courage of david hanes calling him a british hero. he vowed that britain would hunt down those responsible and bring them to justice no matter how long it takes. >> cameron said the uk has an iron determination to destroy isis, although he stopped short of authorizing british air irrikes. and britain's hostage crisis is not over. >> officials confirmed today that isis militants are holding another aid worker alan henning, threatening he would be executed too.

>> as in the videos of u.s. journalist james foley and stephen sotloff the first british victim appears with the same executioner with an apparent british accent. >> people across this country would have been sickened by the fact that it could have been a british citizen, a british whtizen who could have carried out this unspeakable act. it is the very opposite of everything our country stands for. >> the execution of a british citizen has piled pressure on the prime minister to get ugugher on isis, including increased calls for britain to join the u.s. in launching its own air-strikes, british aircraft have provided support role for the u.s. military campaign, but that is about it. jeff? >> charlie, prime minister cameron also has his hands full coming with the upcoming vote on scottish independence, how does that matter complicate this one? >> well, jeff, the scots have largely been opposed to air

strikes and the idea of uk getting any more deeply involved in another conflict in the middle east is besides the fact the victim david hanes is scottish, the vote is going to be close and cameron can't risk losing a single vote to independents. >> charlie d'agata, thank you very much. the fight is taking place in iraq and syria, the plan is coming together in paris. world leaders gathered tomorrow to address the threat from isis and today the state department says they are getting more help. secretary of state john kerry says some arab nations have offered to strike air-strikes against isis. here is julianna goldman from washington. >> the u.s. says it has found arab nations willing to commit military assets, some even ground troops, but it is too early to name specific countries. >> secretary of state john kerry says he expects regional allies to help on a number of fronts, they range from humanitarian aid to going after isis finances and its sophisticated propaganda machine. >> we are not looking to put troops on the ground, there are some who have offered to do so,

but we are not looking for that at this moment anyway. >> but it is securing military commitments that will be the most critical, and the administration officials continued to promise there will be no u.s. combat troops in iraq or syria. >> white house chief of staff dennis mcdonough said on "face the nation," it will be up to regional partners and syrian fighters. >> we will provide our unique capability in air strikes and intelligence and in training and then it will be up to the syrians on that side of the border to finish the job. >> one of those allies could be jordan, according to republican michael mccall who chairs the house homeland security committee. >> i met the prince of jordan, just two days ago, who said he is ready today to put his troops into syria to fight isis. >> congress is expected to take up the president's $500 million request to train and equip moderate syrian rebels this week, the measure is expected to pass but not without controversy. >> this threat has been out there for over a year, and finally the white house started

child abuse on friday. peterson's dismissal comes in the same week the nfl suspended baltimore ravens runningback ray rice after a video emerged showing him knocking out his wife at a casino elevator. with so many incidents, the nfl and commissioner roger goodell are under fire. >> this has been an extraordinarily meaning will week for the nfl and especially its commissioner roger goodell, where there are now serious questions about the appropriateness of him continuing on as commissioner of the league. there are a variety of groups that have argued that he should be removed. >> two of those groups flew goodell must go banners over several stadiums. and on twitter, goodellmustgo was trending it. >> one player who did suit up today was san francisco 49er the ray mcdonald, he was arrested in august for domestic violence against his pregnant fiancé, as for greg hardy, and peterson, jeff, they haven't been officially suspended by the teams or the nfl so it is up in the air if both players will be next in the field next year. >> thank you very much.

hillary clinton was the featured speaker today at a famous political event in iowa. the first in the nation caucus state where she finished third in 2008. and her appearance on, unsurprisingly is fueling more speculation about her plans for 2016, nancy cordes is there >> hello, iowa. >> i am back! >> political intrigue was the main course at this years harkin's steak fry at 5,000 iowans and 200 journalists all try to divine whether hillary clinton's presence here means she is running for president. >> is this for another campaign? >> we are just here today to support democrats. >> the annual harkin steak guy founded by tom hark quinn is the premiere democratic event in a state that eats, sleeps and breathes presidential politics. >> good afternoon, iowa. >> then senator hillary clinton attended the steak fry back in

>> senator harkins who is retiring after 40 years in congress worked to stoke the suspense too. >> president clinton and hillary clinton are now the comeback couple in america. >> iowa was supposed to be the state that cemented hillary clinton's front runner status in 2008, instead, she came in a surprise third and her campaign never fully recovered. sf she does run again, jeff, this state will be key to her campaign strategy. >> nancy cordes, thank you very much, hurricane odile is bearing down on the baha peninsula, it is a category three storm this evening, packing winds up to 125 miles-per-hour. the national hurricane center predicts it could be the strongest storm ever to hit the baha. >> a north korean court today quick and sentenced american matthew miller in a trial that took all of 90 minutes. the 24-year-old from bakersfield, california was found guilty of entering the country illegally to commit espionage.

>> glor: the way we pay is changing dramatically. a new study by bank rate says 63 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 29 do not have a credit card. debit cards, the choice these days, and while that can avoid debt there can be some disadvantages. here to discuss the cbs news business analyst jill schlesinger. >> jill, always good to see you. >> what is behind this trend? >> these kids grew up in a once in a generation recession. iit really booked sthenl and saw the credit bubble burst, it affected them their family and friends, they are weighed down by student loans and as a result they don't want more debt on top of that and they are turning to debit cards but remember the debit cards they don't establish a credit history and could make it hard to buy a car or house in the future. >> all these seem like valid concerns, not building up the debt. >> yes, i guess i would feel better if there wasn't so much ms. information, a recent survey found 40 percent of the mill yen thals cat carrying a balance actually improves your credit
