doctors. as an unidentified patient under goes treatment health authorities are now tracking down relatives or friends the patient may have visited after exhibiting symptoms of the deadly ebola virus. >> it's certainly possible that someone who had contact with this individual, a family member or other individual could develop ebola in the coming weeks, but there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here. >> reporter: ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person showing signs of the virus. he didn't have symptoms of ebola when flying from liberia to the u.s. on september 19th. >> we do not believe there was any risk to anyone on the flight at that time. >> reporter: officials say they have a plan in place to handle ebola cases and there is no risk to other patients coming here for treatment. still people of the community are worried. >> i would just want to make sure if we've got our kids going

to doctors and going there it's a safe place to go. >> reporter: crew members that transported the patient to the hospital on sunday are not showing symptoms of ebola but will be quarantined at home. the ambulance they carried the patient in was in use afterward but is out of service now for extensive decontamination. the doctors are telling us they're not going to be able to give this patient zmapp, what was given to

involved. two warplanes hit a weapons post and combat vehicle used to attack kurdish fighters in northwest iraq, this as fighting along the border with iraq and syria intensifies. meanwhile governor chris christie is the latest to call in to questioning the president's handing of isis. in an interview, christie criticized the president's words says mr. obama's intelligence agency underestimated the post by isis. >> we underestimated, the administration, he underestimated, and you need to be accountable for those things. >> you can see more of gayle king's interview with governor christie on "cbs this morning." in california, the mayor of a city in los angeles county was shot. officials say his wife did it but she was released after hours of questioning.

daniel cress powe was mayor northeast of los angeles. yesterday afternoon cresbo and his wife got into an argument. the 19-year-old tried to intervene. father and son struggled. his wife got a gun. new information on eric frein. police say they found two pipe bombs that could have been set off by either a trip wire or fuse. in a news conference state police spoke directly to frein. >> i am calling on you, eric, to surrender. you are clearly stressed. you're making significant mistakes. >> police warned hunters to stay away from the search area because they believe frein has set bobby traip oby traps.

are still concerns about toxic gases and another eruption. well, more crowds and confrontation in the streets of hong kong today. pro-democracy demonstrators are demanding the right to choose their own leader. seth doane has the latest from hong kong. >> reporter: this is one of the main thorough barracks here. there are government buildings around us, and you can see that all of this is occupied. the relative numbers are a little bit smaller compared to what we were seeing over in ide, even in the pouring rain. but this is the heat of the day, and the temperatures really soar. today is a very important day. it's national day here, a holiday, where they're expecting to see numbers surge. today we saw the chief executive at a flag raising where he was booed. of course, he and the election of 2017 is the focus of a lot of the frustration of these

protesters here. that i want more local control over who is on the ballot in 2017. you can see one of the things that really marks this protest is the relative civility. you see people picking up after each other. even over here right now, you have people singing. there was a woman behind me here with a sign offering free haircuts. so people are really trying to watch out for each other. the question really remains how long can they stay here. seth doane, cbs news, hong kong. well, still to come, california bans the bags. and in sports, it's official the royals and the a's play a postseason classic.

on the "cbs moneywatch," california bans plastic bags, and the feds come down on caffeinated underwear. we're not kidding. jill wagner will explain those stories and more. she is at the new york stock exchange. good morning, jill. >> good morning, anne-marie. california is the first state to ban single-use plastic bags. starting next year plastic bags will be phased out of grocery stores ant at convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. it's to cut down on 50 million plastic bags that end up as garbage every year. plastic bag manufacturers plan to fight the ban. here on wall street investors will be watching the september awe toe sales report, and protests in hong kong.

the country. actor tracy morgan says he did nothing wrong when a walmart truck hid his limousine on a new jersey highway in june. in a statement morgan said, quote, i can't believe walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. walmart said that morgan and his traveling companions were partly to blame for their injuries because they were not wearing seat belts. morgan suffered rib and leg injuries. and sad news for the rock band of ac/dc. after four decades, founder and director malcolm young is leaving the band. his family says the 61-year-old is suffering from dementia. in december the band will release its 17th studio album and go on tour and young's nerve

a protest last night in ann arbor, michigan. university students are calling for the dismissal of the athletic director and head football coach for letting quarterback shane morris play after taking a hard hit to the game. the school admitted they made a mistake and they said a doctor would be monitoring the hits players take. kris van cleave has more. >> reporter: michigan quarterback shane morris took a dangerously hard hit after saturday's game. even though he struggled to stay up after, he continued to play. sparking criticism from the game's announcers -- >> it is appalling he was left in after that play. >> reporter: -- and protests from students on campus who want

head coach brady hoke fired. hoke said he didn't see the quarterback go down. >> we would never, ever, if we thought a guy have a concussion keep him in the game, and we never have. >> reporter: the university diagnosed morris with a minor concussion and they let him play after confusion on the sideline. cbs sports analyst phil simms. >> it's unfortunate. you can't have that any more in this day and age but under no circumstances do i believe that the coach went, ah, he's going to be okay. that's not how it goes anymore. >> that player needs to be evaluated. >> reporter: we showed the video to dr. dennis cardone, a concussion expert at langone medical center. >> if he already had a hit, a

second hit can have severe consequences. >> reporter: players with a concussion are more likely to suffer future concussions which can lead to confusion and dementia. kris van cleave, cbs news, new york. superstar michael phelps is apologizing for driving drunk. fems was arrested on tuesday in his hometown of baltimore. police say he was doing 85 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone, and he failed a field sobriety test. phelps says in a statement he takes full responsibility for his actions. and an unusual invasion in alaska. an estimated 35,000 pacific walruses are crowding the beaches in the northwest part of the state. officials say because of global warming, the mammals can't find any ice to rest on, so they're coming on shore in record numbers. >> coming up after your local news on "cbs this morning," the director of the cdc answers questions about the first case of ebola diagnosed in the u.s. plus, new jersey governor chris christie blasted president obama over the comments he made during his "60 minutes" interview.
