captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for thursday, november 20th, 2014. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, overnight a gunman opened fire on the campus of florida state university. multiple shots were fired in the school library at the heart of the tallahassee campus. at least three people were wounded. video appears to show police communicating with people still in the library. >> we have a shooting in the library. stay where you are. we'll be coming to get you more clearing and take care of everybody. >> james buechelly of our tallahassee station wctv joins us on the phone. what's the latest on the situation? >> reporter: i'm here on the campus of fs unh there are literally hundreds of students being taken next door.

they're now allowed to go backes in and grab any possessions that they left. three people have been sent to the hospital. at one point he shot at the campus p.d. they returned fire. we don't know who the suspect is. the latest, at least three people in the hospital for injuries. we talked with a lot of students. they said they heard noises, what they didn't think were gunshots ended up being gunshots, but there are still hundreds of students in there. very busy time, middle of the week. the point is three people are recovered from their injuries. >> what's going on on campus now? what are students doing. >> reporter: right now they were taken to a building directly next to the library as they were being questioned by police about what they saw. they are letting the hundreds of students back into the library to grab any of their belongings. it's still very active. there's still plenty of police, fire trucks around, places taped

continued to pound the region overnight. the paralyzing lake-effect system dumped close to 6 feet of snow yesterday trapping many people inside their homes and cars. bethany went into labor and was stranded while trying to get to the hospital. desperate fehr help, her husband jared ran to a buffalo fire lieutenant who then recruited a nurse to help deliver the baby right there in the firehouse. >> they helped me get in the right position, and two pushes and out she came. >> reporter: about 140 miles of the new york state throughway leading to buffalo remains closed in both directions. governor andrew cuomo declared a state of emergency. national guard troops were even deployed to help but some drivers remain angry. >> the troopers do their job. the d.o.t., they need to improve on their plan of attack for snowstorms. >> reporter: during the break,

millions of illegal immigrants from deportation. as expected his decision to issue an executive order bypassing congress has set off a political firestorm. the white house released this photo of the president working on his speech. he'll officially sign the executive order tomorrow. susan mcginnis is in washington. susan, good morning. >> anne-marie, good morning. the president briefed key democratic lawmakers at the white house last night about this. he has often said he would not wait for congress to overhaul the immigration system. now he is set to announce some of the most sweeping changes to immigration policy in decades. >> everybody agrees that our immigration system is broken. unfortunately washington has allowed the problem to fester for too long. >> in a video announcement posted on the internet, the president previewed his action. >> and so what i'm going to be laying out is the things i can do with my lawful authority as president to make the system work better, even as i continue to work with congress and encourage them to get a bipartisan comprehensive bill that can solve the entire

problem. >> the president's plan will shield immigrants from deportation, both adults and children. it would affect parents of illegal children and so called dreamers, young undocumented who entered as minors. none would be entitled to federal benefits including health care. republican lawmakers are furious calling the action unconstitutional. >> failing to get your way in congress doesn't mean the president can simply override the congress with the stroke of his pen. >> in a written statement an aide to house speaker john boehner called the president emperor obama and said the president will ruin the chances for congressional action on this issue and many others. some republican lawmakers want to hold up government funding when it runs out of money next month, but for now the gop says they have no plans to shut down the government.

bill cosby is facing new fallout over the growing list of rape allegations. nbc is dropping plans to work with him, and cable channel pulled reruns of his show. bigad shaban has reactions to the comedian on new accusations in a newly released tape. >> reporter: bill cosby had this to say to the "associated press" earlier this month. >> there is no comment about that. and i'll tell you why. i think you were told. i don't want to compromise your integrity, but we don't -- i don't talk about it. >> reporter: but as the interview wound down, he asked the interviewer not to air his response.

good morning, anne-marie. the senate holds a hearing today on the massive recall on the defective airbags. they're manufactured by the japanese manufacturer takata. they could potentially explode and send shards into passengers. at least five deaths have been linked to the defective airbags and officials will testify. here on wall street stocks are looking to rebound after closing low for the first time this week. the dow slipped 2 points, the s&p 500 lost 3 points and the nasdaq was down 7. some changes at jetblue. next year jetblue is creating three ticket classes. passengers flying the cheapest seats will be charged for checking bags. passengers buying the more expensive bags will get at least one free checked bag, and jetblue is adding some 15 seats to some of its planes, which means less leg room. as the holiday shopping season gets into full swing, a consumer watchdog group revealed

a massachusetts town stamped out a proposed ban on tobacco sales. the westminster board of health voted wednesday to scrap the idea a week after a rowdy public hearing. the total prohibition would have been the first in the country. it was strongly opposed by the tobacco industry, and some residents said personal freedom would be curbed. every year across america postal workers complete their job but in one midwest town they turned into heroes. vinita nair reports. >> reporter: christy has been delivering mail in east peoria, illinois, for 23 years, almost a decade along this same route. for the most part she says every day is like every other except for one day last year.

she was pulling into the post office parking lot when she saw an older man taking a young boy behind the shed. what was the gut instinct you had that something was wrong? >> the boy was telling me something by the look on his face. he was telling me something is not right. >> reporter: so she went inside and got her supervisor to come out. >> well, they were walking behind the shed and they stopped behind the shed, so i asked him, are you okay, and he just shook his head like this. and i asked him if he wanted to stay with me, and he did this. >> reporter: pence-bailey took the boy's arm and pulled him away and then she asked if anyone had a cellphone. >> as he started he walked between the two buildings, i got my phone out and snapped a couple photos of him real fast. >> reporter: this photo taken by mail carrier steve plunkett as the man was running away allowed police to take this one.
