tuesday, december 16th, 2014. good morning. i'm lauren lyster in for anne-marie green. this morning, pennsylvania police will resume searching for an iraq war veteran suspected of killing six family members, the six victims include the suspect's former wife were found at three different locations outside of philadelphia yesterday. the suspect, bradley william stone and his ex-wife had been involved in a bitter custody dispute. don champion is in harleysville, pennsylvania. don, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, lauren, this morning, police have few clues to go on in the search for stone. officers recovered his car and cell phone yesterday as the search intensifies for him. people who knew his ex-wife say what happened yesterday was something she was afraid would happen. police searched parts of doylestown, pennsylvania, for bradley william stone after a person resembling him tried to car jack a resident at knife

point. the man who was armed took several shots dressed in fa teelgs. authorities urged members of the community to shelter in place. >> we do not know where he is we actually recovered his vehicle and personal cell phone. >> reporter: police say stone was traveling on an early murder spree across three towns killing six people. among them his ex-wife nicole hill stone who was shot inside her apartment. neighbors said they saw the suspect leaving with the two children. >> i heard the kids screaming, mama. she's hurt, she's hurt pretty bad, we got to go, we got to go. >> reporter: police say stone also killed her mother and grandmother and three other relatives. >> she would tell people that he was going to kill her.

>> reporter: stone a 35-year-old iraq war vet delivered his two daughters to a neighbor in pennsburg. police warn he's extremely dangerous and asking for the public's health in tracking him down. and this morning, the 17-year-old nephew of stone's wife is still in the hospital. he was injured during the taliban members by pakistani

authorities. authorities say most of the student and faculty have been evacuated. >> the iranian born man who held 17 people captive inside an australia cafe. and this morning, tony abbott placed flowers on a makeshift memorial for the victims. the gunman's motive remains unclear. ben tracy has our report. >> reporter: just before 2:00 a.m., five hostages managed to escape and made a frantic dash towards riot police. minutes later there was a series of loud explosions. followed by flashes of heavy gunfire that continued for 30 seconds. more than 16 hours after the hostage crisis began, australian army commandos poured in to end

it. when it was over, five people were injured and three were dead. including the hostage taker an iranian refugee called man haron monis. monis sought astyle let me in 1996 and assumed new identity. he was well-known to authorities a self-proclaimed sheikh, he sometimes professed on sidewalks, posting video to his own youtube channel. last year, he wrote letters to families of soldiers killed in afghanistan. he was also charged with sexual assault and the murderer of his ex-wife. soon after the black flag favored by islamic militants was pressed up against the cafe window by the people trapped inside. streets in the neighborhood were closed and many offices evacuated. monis seemed to be pacing and

appeared to be wearing a red bandana with the writing we are your soldiers. in a series of online videos, monis listed his demands. he wanted an isis flag to be put in contact with the australian prime minister. monis threatened that bombs would be set off if his demands weren't met but no explosives were found when police moved in. we've also learned the identity of the two hostages killed. one was katrina dawson a 34-year-old lawyer and mother of three. the other was the 34-year-old manager tori johnson, johnson was considered a hero because he whereas killed while apparently trying to wrestle a gun away from the shooter. ben tracy, cbs news, sydney. a new storm in california.

power lines in san jose. the rain flooded a basement. icy streets left tires spinning, drivers struggled to get traction. kcbs weather forecaster jackie johnson has more on the rough waerth ahead. >> two storms are hitting the u.s. today, one in the east and one in the west. fresh off of two major snowmakers, another round of precipitation is blanketing the west coast. and there's another storm right behind it. the bay area can expect 2 to 3 inches of rain and a foot possible in the sierra. southern california will pick up another inch of rain which is needed with the extreme drought. flash flood watches, high surf are all in effect. mild weather is taking over the northwest and mid-atlantic states but highs will tap out in the 40s and 50s.

yesterday. closing at $55.91 a barrel. brent crude the benchmark for international oil fell 79 cents a barrel to close at $61.04. wall street started the week where it left off friday with more losses. the falling oil prices and profit taking sent stocks lower. the dow fell nearly 100 points. the s&p dropped 12. and the nasdaq finished 48 points lower. the federal reserve is expected to signal it's moving closer to interest rates. the fed will issue a statement when the two-day policy meeting wraps up. most economists think the fed will wait until june to raise short-term rates. the fed cut rates to record lows back in 2008 during the financial crisis. more than 2,000 worker, at amazon warehouse in germany are on strike. it affects six of amazon's nine distribution centers in germany. union workers are pressing for better pay and working
