>> i was born and raised in st. louis. i went do college in atlanta, georgia. i was in the military for a few years. i had a year and half in europe. then i was stationed at the oakland army base. i live them from 1988 to 1998. >> you were hear for the earthquake. >> yes, october 17, 1989. >> we'll talk about some sports and the focus of our show is you are a lay catholic evan cat evangelist. let's talk about your dad.

>> he was in the nfl in 1952. he set a record that year for most interception. a year later he was traded to the chicago cardinals. he played for them for awhile. from '60 to '66 hi played for the detroit lions and his name was dick lane. >> he raised a wonderful son. >> this picture was taken in 1994. that was the 20th an verse of his induction of the nfl hall of fame. >> i hear you get to go back there every once in awhile. >> yes, my brother and i get to go back there every year. >> the nationally thing is you go back not just as a child of

someone in that legacy but also as a preacher. people now know you as it preacher. >> yes. >> tell us about the john madden story. >> i'm out here in oakland, california. i was preaching here in california. after mass was over one of the ushers comes over and said someone wants to meet you. i go and it was john madden. he said i knew you when you were a kid. i said yes, you did. i was there when you won to super bowl against the vikings. i go to canton, ohio. he said what are you doing here. how come you are not back in church peaching. he's a great catholic guy.

he and his wife are very devote catholics. >> you have been preaching all of the time. you go back at the invitation of other peachers. tell us about the football connection. >> i try to introduce myself to people. there was a wonderful couple that came in. i said hi, i'm richard lane. i said nice to meet you mr. brady. i asked did your son let you wear one of the super bowl rings. i said yes, we are tom brady's parents. i said your son will have one of these in about 7 years. this is my fathers nfl hall of

evangelist. >> i go around the word and do rereceipts. i specialize in parish missions and teach the catholics the joys of our faith. know just be the chosen to come to fulfill that holy day of obligation. but i teach to live out our faith and calling. >> this is a fire. this fire had to start somewhere in you. tell us about how you got going with this. >> long story short when i was in the army i heard my mothers vice in the back of my head.

i was raised luthern. i didn't like that so i started going to catholic church. then i started going to a catholic church in oakland. it was ran by father shamous. they welcomed me with open arms. i moved to st. louis and got involved with my church their and they started talking to me about these things that started with an s and ended with an s sackments. i said i don't have any of those. i went through the process and i learned what god had been calling me too all my life. i learned the beauties of my faith.

i learned the body and blood was in the euricest. i became catholic april 19th 2003. 2 years later i go out on the street corners of st. louis and pass out bibles. i invite people into our church to come in and worship. i felt the call to start preaching and talking and the religious education teacher said let the spirit lead you. i started out with a hail mary and our father and i spoke about what got meant to me in our life. i was ministering to pimps, drug dealers gangbanger is. i have been able to preach all around the world.

>> the people go to a mission what will they experience. what are the things they might experience? >> one of the first thing might experience is joy and excitement. i try to welcome people. i always go and shake people's hand and feel welcome. that's one thing this the catholic church. they are terrible at welcoming people. >> we have to work on it guys. >> we do. if the baptist want to convert you they hung and love on you. lutherns will tide you until you convert. we make you feel guilty to get you to convert.

the holy gospel said god feels the hearts the and lives. that's what i bring to my mission. >> upon the end of that mission their life and experience of the faith would be different the next sunday. what will be different about them? >> some of what i have heard about people threw some of the missions they found that encounter. the true encounter with the eucrist. they found a true encounter with the word of god in the bible in a way they can understand that word of god and apply it to their daily lives. some people say the next time i come to church i understand the bible a little bit better.

i'm able to go and read it and able to understand how it applies to my life. i'm able to be in connection and better connected with god through prayer. i ask for all of the blessings and understanding that comes with our faith. >> i bet the faces of those people look different. >> they do. >> that's an innext. >> they really do. >> i image people get called to ministry. we'll talk about the gifts of the holy spirit and realize i have been missing this life of joy of severing. >> it's like a yawn. one persons yawns and it's infectionous. everyone starts to yawn. this fire given to us by the

welcome back to mosaic and my guest is richard lane. let's look at your shirt their richard. what does that say richard lane ministries? >> yes. the ministry has been going on for 10 years. i rebranded everything. originally the ministry was known as corbam ministry. that's what our lives are all about. that's what we do. we are dedicated to god. everything we do gives god glory. >> just upon hearing that statement there people say i'm not sure about me. maybe for you you are really

holy. you know, people say that. >> i have holes in my head. holes in my socks. what does it mean to say everyone is called to be set aside? >> jesus calls everyone. every christian is proclaimed to spread the good news. i'm not a holy guy. i'm far from holy. god can use anyone. a lot of people say noah was a holy guy. no, noah was a drunk. people say moses was a holy guy, no he was a murderer.

some people say i'm too old but abraham was 79. i don't have a ph.d but i do have a reason for my belief. if someone asks me why i'm catholic because my parents was catholic. i believe in the body, blood, soul, and definety of jesus christ. i want everyone else to understand that. i live this life and i go and minister to so many people. i ministered last week to a 17- year-old young man in one neighborhood were one of his friends had just been murdered. i said how are you living today brother, he said day by day.

he said today was a good day, nobody got killed. i'm trying to get to my 18th birthday. i went to visit an 5-year-old with cancer. she was a shamed because her head was bald. i said i'll be back in 30 minutes. i have not had my head cut this low since i was in the military. i said, guess what, look i did this for you. i will come see you. i don't want to put her name out there. i will pray for her and go back and visit her and her family and say we are here. >> you're walking, responding, and listening to the holy spirit no matter were you are. we'll talk about what that

means on a practical level but also what that means on a spiritual level. how do we know jesus is calling us. i heard people say the lord spoke to them. how do they hear that. we'll talk about that. we'll talk more about -- >> you didn't get the e-mail ? >> no, no e-mail, telegram, or fax. we'll talk about how god speaks to their har -- heart and mind. you are watching mosaic. i'm chris and we'll be right back.

it all started pent -- pentcost. >> they were speaking in tongues. >> when we go to confirmation we shouldn't be surprised. >> it goes back to to explaining to our children and

make making sure they meet jesus. many catholics have never had that encounter themselves. that's why the church has these wonderful ministries outside of the traditional. they have church retreats and other ways to be able to come into contact with the holy spirit. >> a simple way is to ask holy spirit come into my life. >> exactly. >> the pope is talking about all of this. encounter, encounter jesus christ. when you encounter him you can't help to talk to people. >> right. >> before we close i want to have you say about your ministry. you raise your own finances. pay for this man, he has a family. it's not like it's taken care of once you say yes.
