this is the "cbs morning news" for monday, april 20th, 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning six people are under arrest in connection with a terrorism investigation tracking young people who have tried to join extremist groups overseas. the joint terrorism task force investigation was based in minnesota. the arrests were made in minneapolis and san diego. the investigation was tracking youths who have already travelled to syria or tried to to fight with militants including the islamic state. a handful of minnesotans have traveled to syria to fight with militantses this last year. at least one has died. now another white house fence jumper is under arrest. the secret service says the intruder hopped the fence around 10:30 on the south side of the white house.

that's the side that faces the washington monument. the white house lawn was bathed in spotlights. the intruder was immediately grabbed by uniformed secret service officers. the "washington post" reports the intruder carried a package that turned out to be harmless. it's unclear why the intruder jumped the fence. this morning the risk of severe weather extends across the southeast, and the storm system is headed up the atlantic coast. tornado watches are posted in louisiana, arkansas, mississippi, and tennessee. the cleanup continues this morning after strong winds, rain, and possibly a tornado swept through aiken, south carolina, yesterday, but no injuries are reported. eric fisher, meteorologist of our boston station wbz has the forecast. >> it was a very stormy weekend across the southeast. now that severe weather threat is moved toward the east coast as we head into monday to kick off the week. a big sprawling storm system. heavy rainfall moving up through philly, new york and over toward boston by the afternoon and also thunderstorms that will pop during the afternoon and evening. with these we could see some

segments of damaging winds and large hail outside the i-95 corridor. it could be a rough commute. highlighting the area from central p.a. on down the east coast into central parts of florida, a fairly rare to end threat could rule out an isolated tornado. mostly hail. in terms of that heavy rain plus the wind coming in off the water, big boston marathon taking place for monday morning and it's going to be a very trying afternoon for a lot of the runners there. wind will be in the faces of many of them and heavy rainfall into the afternoon. the overall story for this week, the colder air taking back a lot of residents here in the eastern and central united states. a person reminiscent of winter but not quite as cold as january. i'm eric fisher, meteorologist of the cbs news. this morning another case of possible abuse by police. the baltimore police department is conducting a criminal investigation into the death of freddie gray. he died yesterday a week after he was arrested.

mark albert has our report. >> reporter: this amateur video shows a limp freddie gray being carried, his feet dragging on the ground, being put into a police van. there he was put in additional restraints. 30 minutes later please called an ambulance. he spent the next week in a coma. his mother did not want to be identified when she spoke to the station. >> hmm-mm. they didn't check my son. >> no justice, no peace! >> reporter: relatives and friends held a protest saturday. police won't say why four bicycle officers first stopped the 27-year-old, why he ran from them, or how he became critically hurt. on sunday hours after his death, baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings-blake urged calm. >> i want citizens to know how it happened. i assure you we'll hold the right people accountable. >> in a statement she's calling

for the police to release the surveillance video. they're holding it until they're absolved of all responsibility. mark albert, cbs news, washington. one of the largest forensic scandals in this country's history is unfolding possibly affecting the outcomes of hundreds of trials including more than a dozen where the death penalty was implemented. the fbi reportedly admits experts in hair analysis division gave flawed testimony for more than two decades. jericka duncan reports. >> reporter: before dna testing became prevalent, the fbi relied heavily on visual analysis of evidence, sometimes building cases on microscopic analysis of hair, but in 2012 federal officials launched an investigation after the "washington post" reported that flawed forensic hair matches might have led to the convictions of hundreds of innocent people. in a full report the innocence project and the national

association of criminal defense lawyers will say that from the 1970s through 1999, 25 of 29 fbi forensic examiners made errors in their testimony, impacting 257 cases. the report also says out of 18 executions, 12 of them had errors in either testimony or lab reports. innocence project co-founder peter neufeld says this could mean hundreds of appeals nationwide. >> the first order of business, frankly, is the fbi and doj has to redouble their efforts to get the transcripts of the hundreds and hundreds of cases of people where fbi agents gave exaggerated testimony. >> reporter: the justice department issued a statement saying the department and fbi are committed to ensuring that affected defendants are notified of past errors and that justice is done in every instance.

mass execution of ethiopian christians in libya. a masked fighter with a pistol says christians must convert to islam. they line up the victims. some are shot. others are beheaded on the beach. the rise of isis has been fuelled in large part by the four-year civil war in syria. in 2013 a chemical gas attack killed 1,400 civilians on the outskirts of damascus. on "60 minutes" scott karnes showed it. he was in damascus the day of the attack. >> what witness sticks in your mind as the person you cannot forget? >> there are several. a child of 7 or 8 who lost most

approval of ten more projects in the gulf of mexico after the oil spill. the news comes on the fifth anniversary of the deepwater horizon accident that killed 11 workers. the project announced today announces restoring the sea turtle population along the gulf. huge demand for the lilly pulitzer collection has caused a frenzy at the target stores. it also overwhelmed the website. the limited collection sold out within minutes at target stores and online. by yesterday afternoon they broke the news to customers that no more inventory would be available. stocks on wall street finished a week lower dragged by less than stellar closing for the week. the dow finished 231 points lower for the week. the s&p lost 20 points, and the nasdaq was down 63 points. a just released study finds aspirin may help ward off gastrointestinal cancers. harvard researchers listed beta
