more about the gunmen who opened fire sunday at an anti-islamic event outside dallas t. roommates from phoenix were shot and killed by an off duty police officer, one of the men, elton simptop, was the subject of a previous terror investigation. simpson and the another attacker were both wearing body arm our. >> reporter: police checked what appears to be a rifle near the car used by two shooting suspects in garland, texas t. gunfight occurred near the contest of the prophet mohammed. >> which den know their intent other than we know they were willing to pull up and start shooting in place. >> reporter: police say the gunmen drove up to the entrance of the venue sunday evening and started firing. they were killed by police. local police and the fbi spent months paying security for monday night's show. it was organized by pamela

marine corps. he has served in iraq and afghanistan. he would precede retiring attorney general martin dempsey. attorneys in the boston bombing trial have seen a new side of dzhokhar tsarnaev. he wiped away tears. he sobbed as his aunt took the stand in the death penalty try. she was one of five relatives called by the defense. it was the first time tsarnaev dropped his plank expression in court. >> the jury in the colorado shooting trial has heard from the gunman. prosecutors played video from james holmes from a police interview. rick sellinger of our station kcnc reports from centennial colorado. >> jurors saw a videotape of an interview of games holmes by police shortly after the shooting. the officer replied, he didn't know if any children were hurt.

in fact, the 6-year-old girl is among those killed. survivors have been able to testify using a model of the theater reported out where he was shot. the defendant, james holmes sat passively as the witness described what happened. >> i remember hearing screaming and loud noises. i would imagine a gun. >> the jury was shown a photo of the leg he said was blown apart. he then walked to the jury box and revealed the state of his injuries today. he is one of 70 wounded. 12 were killed that night. the gunman's preparation detailed by witnesses from shooting ranges. theodore maples remembers a plan with odd hair and several firearms. >> this is red air, orange-colored hair. if he had it dark he'd be just like everybody else. >> the defense wants to show holmes was insane the night of

david goldberg died in an apparent gym accident t. husband of cheryl sandberg passed away friday during a family vacation. >> reporter: david goldberg died exercising in a gym at a resort in southwest mexico. local authorities say he died of head trauma. goldberg was an entrepreneur and mentor to many in silicon valley he sold his first start-up to yahoo in 2001. goldberg married cheryl sandberg in 2004 a. power couple behind the now famous lean-in philosophy encouraging women to go after their professional goals, a partnership that she says was pivotal to her own success as she told a class of barnard college seniors. >> the most important career decision you will make is whether or not you have a life part in other words and who that partner is. >> in 2013 the couple explained to norah o'donnell on "60 minutes" how sandberg almost accepted facebook's first offer.

"cbs news" has learned of a troubling increase in sexual misconduct cases involving agents with u.s. customs and border protection. >> that is the largest federal law enforcement agency with 45,000 agents anna warner reports. >> reporter: for eight years, james tomshack handled sexual investigations as the chief of internal affairs at the u.s. borders and customs. what he saw disturbed him. between 2012 and 2014 he found there was a spike of more than 45 members wal misconduct cases against agents. a rate he says was significantly higher than in other law enforcement agencies.

what was your problem with that? >> a problem i believed was a serious problem was perhaps even worse than i thought it was. >> reporter: so last april tomcheque e-mailed his boss about the disturbing and disproportionate number of cases in the agency's work force. and what response did you receive? >> i did not receive a response. >> reporter: a "cbs news" investigation found in the last six years at least 21 customs or border patrol agents have been indicted or pled guilty to sexual offense on or off duty. five agents were arrested just in the past year tomsheck blames the problems on a lack of screening from more than 1,500 agents hired between 2006 and 2012 and never given polygraphs now, standard procedures for new

hires at the agency. according to tomsheck one of those not pole graphed was agent molli na res. they say he picked up two young girls, sexually assaulted them and killed two of them. he later brought one back to hess apartment and raped her. when federal agents knocked on his door he committed suicide. >> i believe there are many persons in the organization today subject to polygraph screening would be found unsuitable. >> he says he resigned and retired early. the agent declined repeated requests for an interview. he told us the vast majority of employees do the right thing every day. that spokesperson also told us in the past six years, the agency has had 285 documented complaints or allegations related to sexual misconduct.
