away at the age of 89. he leaves behind generations of musicians he influenced. ♪ this is the "cbs morning news" for friday, may 15, 2015. good morning, i'm alison harmelin in for anne-marie green. breaking news this morning the nepal army says it spotted the wreckage of a missing u.s. marine chopper. it disappears delivering supplies to earthquake victims. it's 50 miles northeast of kathmandu. seth doane is in beijing. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, allison. that's right, we have just confirmed with the army they spotted wreckage they say is believed to be from the missing helicopter. they found the wreckage high up in the mountains of nepal at 11,200 feet, about 15 miles north of the hard hit town of charikot, nepal.

the u.s. military is not yet confirming this wreckage is connected to the missing helicopter. they have told us they are moving a team inbound to try to assess the situation. a team will include rescue men and combat rescue officers. they have not yet confirmed that wreckage is connected to this missing helicopter. the latest, unfortunate reports coming from associated press and reuters citing a top defense official in nepal says there was complete destruction at that site. a top official telling reuters, he believes there were no survivors. they described the scene of a helicopter that was completely destroyed. that has not been confirmed independently by cbs news or the u.s. military. sad news, developments coming out of nepal today. allison? >> not the news we were hoping for.

seth doane in beijing. thank you, seth. the investigation on the amtrak train is looking at why the train accelerated when it should have been slowing down. it went from 70 miles per hour to over 100 as it went into a sharp curve. the engineer agreed to be interviewed by officials. eight people were killed and more than 200 were injured. amtrak takes full responsibility for the derailment. investigators found no problem with the track or the locomotive. the philadelphia d.a.s office is investigating. don champion is in philadelphia for us. good morning, don. >> reporter: good morning. we are told the interview could take place over the next few days. meantime, behind me at the derailment site the work on repairing power lines and track is already under way. the investigation into tuesday's amtrak derailment focuses on brandon bostian. ntsb investigators want to know

why the train accelerated from 70 to more than 100 miles per hour as it approached the curve. >> before entering the curve is when the engineer applied the engineer induced braking to put it into emergency braking. >> reporter: his lawyer says he does not remember the crash and suffered a concussion and received 14 staples to close a head wound. the engineer submitted a blood sample to test for drugs and alcohol. investigators will also look at his cell phone. >> that's him and me there. >> reporter: childhood friend james spoke with bostian after the accident. >> he was very distraught, very upset. he was very sorry. i don't think there's any foul play or anything like that. he was never one to do drugs. there's got to be something else. >> reporter: on thursday the body of bob was discovered at the crash site. the father of two from maryland is the eighth fatality to be identified.

20s and soon earned the nick nak blues boy or b.b. here is how he described the blues in an interview with cbs news. >> it's good for me when i'm feeling bad and good for me when i'm feeling good. it's like religious music is to a lot of people. >> reporter: king influenced generations of rock stars including eric clapton. they did a song together called "riding with the king." ♪ don't you know you're riding with the king ♪ >> reporter: king teamed up with youtube for "rattle and hum." ♪ i did what i did before love came to town ♪ >> reporter: the 15-time grammy winner had an audience with pope john paul ii. he performed at the white house with president obama. ♪ >> reporter: king was married twice. the enduring love of his life was lucille. that's what he called his first guitar and everyone he picked up since.

>> this is lucille the 15th. i just woke her up. >> reporter: king had type ii diabetes later in life but still performed late into his 80s. he was a pilot that stopped flying around the age of 70. king always let his fingers do the flying and lived up to his nickname, the king of the blues. danielle nottingham, cbs news. more rain is expected in southern california today. heavy rainfall flooded streets in san diego overnight. the rains are expected to intensify today and produce more flash flooding and mudslides. the national football league is setting the stage for a high profile showdown with tom brady. the new england patriots and the nfl player's union announced commissioner roger goodell will handle the appeal of the four-game suspension over his

role in deflategate. less than four months after roger goodell handed the lombardi trophy to the new england patriots he will decide if the quarterback will miss the next four games. in a decision sure to anger, goodell will personally hear brady's appeal. the announcement came after brady challenged the ban handed down by the league. independent investigate said brady was aware the balls used in the afc championship game under inflated. in the appeal, they wrote if ted wells and the nfl believe it is direct and inculpatory, then they should be confident enough to present their case before someone who is truly independent. the commissioner flatly rejected that request last night. also, thursday, the patriots

railroad tracks and hit by a freight train thursday. several cars were knocked off the rail. no injuries reported. a man who allegedly tried to launch a small drone near the white house was taken into custody thursday. secret service officers noticed the small drone near the white house. reporter bruce le-shan has the details. >> reporter: the secret service closed down several blocks for around the white house for about an hour. it was a foot-long quad copter drone. they consider any drone a threat to the president and the executive mansion. >> secret service cleared the park. everybody clear the park. i turned around to take off running. i tripped. i almost tripped over whatever was behind me. >> reporter: over the drone? >> yes. the secret service grabbed me and said move, you are in the crime season. >> reporter: he was at the white house for a conference.

he captured shaky video of agents walking off with the unnamed suspect in custody. the secret service says they ordered him to land the drone and he complied. pleasant says he then tried to escape. >> a guy took off running. they had a dog behind him. i guess the dog tackled him to the ground. after that they put him in handcuffs and walked him across the park. >> reporter: the second drone offers a reminder of another vulnerability in what is supposed to be the most secure air space. radar has a hard time distinguishing small, low and slow objects from a bird or even a weather front. the pentagon is still working on a system to counter the potential danger. >> that was wusa's bruce le-shan reporting. president obama was not at the white house at the time of the incident. straight ahead, george clooney's late night stunt.

jill wagner is at the new york stock change with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning. honda announced massive recalls on air bags. they are recalling nearly 5 million vehicles worldwide. the problem with the takada air bags this time. toyota and nissan announced similar recalls on wednesday. the total recall for the potentially deadly air bags surpassed 33 million. stocks on wall street had big gains. fewer people filed for unemployment benefits. the dow gained 191 points, the s&p added 22, nasdaq climbed 59. a shell oil rig outfitted to drill for oil in the arctic ocean arrived in seattle. the polar pioneer was used as a base. on monday, the obama administration gave preliminary approval for a multi-year

exploration plan. ice cream maker blue bell signed a deal with texas and oklahoma to notify state officials when there's a positive test for listeria. they did not tell of the contamination in 2013. the ice cream has been linked to illness in four states including three deaths in kansas. the company recalled all products in april and shut down the plant. despite the outbreak, you can buy blue bell ice cream on the internet. there are multiple listings on craigslist. the asking price is steep. someone is selling a half gallon for $499. another person listed a pint of crazy cookie dough for $10,000. the executive producer of the "simpson's" says it show will go on. >> hello? hello? >> he voiced several simpson
