afc championship game goes up for auction. captioning funded by cbs this is the this is the "cbs morning news" for friday, june 19th, 2015. good morning. i'm alison harmelin in for anne-marie green. a bond is scheduled today for dylann roof, the 21-year-old accused of shooting and killing nine people in a south carolina church. roof was captured in north carolina yesterday and waved his right to extradition. the residents are grieving. they say it was motivated by racial hatred. this morning there is disbelief but also anger. craig boswell is in charleston. good morning, craig. >> reporter: alison, good morning. absolute disbelief, anger, shock. meantime a chilling portrait of an accused shooter is coming to light. dylann roof will face a judge in

charleston later today and be arraigned in connection with the murder and mass shooting inside emanuel ame church that left nine dead. he was captured about nine hours away. >> god used me. >> reporter: debbie dills who spotted his vehicle on the way to work alerted authorities when she recognized the car and the driver. >> i got up a little closer and i seen the hair cut that they were talking about, kind of the bowl looking hair cut. >> reporter: this image apparently shows roof at the bible study before the shooting. as the memorial continues to fro outside the historic church, a portrait of accused shooter dylann roof begins to emerge. roof's childhood friend joey meek jr. said he reconnected with roof a few weeks ago. meek jr. said roof told him he wanted to hurt a whole bunch of people and he had a plan.

>> he told me the black people were taking over the world. he wanted there to be segregation. >> reporter: roof used his birthday money from his parents to buy a gun. police found a .45 caliber gun in his bedroom and investigators found shell casings of the same caliber at the shooting scene. i spoke to the former pastor of the emanuel ame church here. he personally knew of seven of the nine victims. he spoke about their dedication and commitment and the church that was literally formed to make a statement. he said people here have proved themselves over and over again and they will do so once again. alison, back to you. >> craig boswell in charleston. thank you, craig. the men and women of emanuel ame church were open to all in their bible study group. six women and three men ranged in age from 23 to 87. among among them a high school track coach, a librarian, and a

college graduate. marlie hall has more from charleston on the lives that were lost that i hold on knowing that my mother took her last breath in a place that she loved. >> reporter: the daughter of ethel lee lance taking solace in the fact that her mother died helping to keep the historic church clean. lance's cousin susie jackson was the oldest member and sang in the choir. >> love concurs hate. >> reporter: the baseball team at charleston southern coming together in support of their teammate chris singleton. his mother sharonda singleton was a popular speech pathologist and track coach at a charleston area high school. >> my mom was a god-fearing woman who loved people with all her heart. >> reporter: a tribute to

coleman singleton on facebook. singleton. depayne middleton-doctor was making strides toward becoming a minister. the mother of four worked with some of charleston's poorest residents. tywanza sanders was the youngest victim. the 26-year-old earned a business degree last year. on his instagram page he described himself as a poet artist, and businessman. active on social media sanders posted a short video on snapchat moments before the shooting. it appears to show the alleged shooter dylann roof sitting with the bible study group. a black shroud draped over the desk of senator clementa pinckney at the catholic state house. pinckney was emanuel's pastor and leading the prayer group wednesday night. all branches of the library were closed in honor of cynthia hurd. she worked for the library for three decades.

scott pelley spoke. why would she have been there on wednesday night? >> because she was a christian. my mother and father attended that church. we got baptized in that church. so it didn't surprise me on a wednesday night she would be there. >> i'm sorry about this terrible loss. >> reporter: the 200-year-old church's leaders are committed to rebuilding. one of them telling a local newspaper here the family cries and the family moves on. marlie hall, cbs news, charleston, south carolina. jeb bush and donald trump canceled presidential campaign visits to south carolina on thursday out of respect for the victims but the issue of gun control was raised again about the attack. presidential candidate ted cruz asked for a moment of silence for the victims but did not raise gun rights.

meanwhile rand paul who's also running for president blames the attack on lack of faith. >> there's a sickness in our country. there's something terribly wrong but it's not going to be fixed by your government. it's people straying away, not understanding where salvation - comes from. >> reporter: a third republican candidate appearing at the conservative event marco rubio did not mention the attacks specifically but he did say he would support gun ownership rights if elected. >> if i'm president of the united states we'll appoint judges and attorney general who will defend americans and their rights to live out their faith at home at work or in their business. >> reporter: democrat hillary clinton campaigned in nevada said the country has to face hard truths about guns and race. >> how many people do we need to see cut down before we act. >> two of clinton's democratic

opponents weighed in on the attack. vermont senator bernie sanders called the shooting another reminder of ugly racism. former governor martin o'malley reliced a statementing he was keeping the victims in his prayers. >> coming up on "cbs this morning," more on the shooting at emanuel ame, and we'll speak with governor nikki haley. two more have been added to the fbi's most wanted list. david sweat and richard matt have been missing since june 6, sparking a massive manhunt involved hundreds of law enforcement officers. it's reserved for the worst of the worst. yesterday's search was expanded but officials say they have no solid leads. the prosecution in the colorado shooting trial is expected to wrap up its case today. james holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. yesterday jurors got to see the picture of the youngest victim

killed, a 6-year-old. her mother was paralyzed and suffered a miscarriage in the act. a new jersey man is has been charged with conspiring to help isis. 21-year-old samuel topaz was arrested wednesday. according to court documents he wanted to travel abroad in exchange for $7,000 a week and four wives. he's part of a group that has been monitored by the fbi. munther omar saleh also has been charged. he allegedly corresponded for months about joining isis. coming up on the "morning news," extreme weather. slow tropical weather brings relentless rain and causes deadly flooding in the south while wildfires burn across the west. this is the "cbs morning news." st. this is the "cbs morning news."

a driver in fairfax, virginia, captured the gusts as they whipped trees from side to side. hail pelts the windshield and hood of a car. the hail can be seen piling up on the ground near a tree. the remains of tropical storm bill are bringing threats to parts of the country. parts of the midwest are bracing for heavy downpours for the weekend. some places could get up to 12 inches of rain as the storm tracks to the east coast. in oklahoma, a 2-year-old boy died after being swept from his father's arms in the flooding. an elderly woman drowned in her car. downpours flooded streets south of oklahoma city. more than 5,000 children at a church camp were evacuated and sent home as a precaution. camp leaders say the floodwaters picked up a bus. >> and it got swept into the waterway and carried into the water, but there were never any people in the bus. >> school buses could be seen parked in several feet of water. cars in low lying areas were also flooded.

dry conditions and warm weather are fueling wildfires across the west. fires are burning across arizona and california. in alaska dozens of homes were destroyed outside anchorage. a mount exploded in fire. dozens of campers and homes had to be evacuated. helicopters dropped water on rugged terrain. a fast moving wildfire poured through homes. the firefighters battled the fire. they declared it contained late thursday. the pope's teaching letter on the environment is sparking strong reaction. francis is calling for decisive action to stop environmental degradation and global warming. he cites the problem is real and

reached a low point. greece has less than two weeks to strike a deal with its lenders or face default on its loans. on wall street they finished at a low. the fed indicated it was in no rush to raise interest rates. the dow gained 180 points. the s&p finished 20 points higher. the nasdaq added 68. shares of martha stewart soared even though she's talking of selling. she parlayed her skills in decorating gardening, and cooking to build her empire but it's now a fraction of what it once was. "the wall street journal" reports she's close to selling to sequential brandts ink. wikileaks released more than 200,000 documents. in november controversial sony data was released including sensitive information about sony employees, e-mails, salaries and copies of unreleased movies. new documents include details about a sex discrimination suit brought by a former sony executive. google launched a new service to verify eyewitness news videos.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. caught on camera. three construction workers are hurt when part of a century-old bridge gives way in western pennsylvania. the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. it's not clear what caused the collapse. in sports henrik stenson and dustin johnson share the first round lead at the u.s. open. both shot 5 under par 65 but it was tiger woods making headlines for all the wrong reasons. woods shot an 80 makinge inging bogey after bogey.
