most distant planetary neighbor. and on a night when hall of famers are honored, some of baseball's youngest players shine bright at the all-star game. >> that's into right field, pretty well hit. that's at the wall and gone! . a home run for mike trout! captioning funded by cbs captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, july 15th, 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the morning after the landmark nuclear pack with iran was announce announced, some republican lawmakers say they will do all they can to derail the accord. the obama administration has already begun the task of trying to sell the deal to very skeptical u.s. lawmakers and allies in the middle east. in the words of one key democratic lawmaker, iran has seriously earned our distrust. hena daniels is in washington.

hena good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. some republicans on capitol hill has said the president has made too many concessions in this deal, this as the draft resolution will circulate within the u.n. security council today. >> we have cut off every pathway for iran to develop a nuclear winnipeg. >> reporter: in an interview with "the new york times," president obama is defending the historic nuclear deal with iran. it's a case the president will continue to make to the nation today when he holds a news conference at the white house. >> this whole system that we've built is not based on trust. it's based on a verifiable mechanism mechanism whereby every packet way has been shut off. >> they'll investigate the sites to verify iran is in compliance. >> we will not stand by idly if iran decides to be involved in

tornadoes are all a possibility. the biggest threat is in southern georgia, but flood warnings are posted this morning in tennessee and kentucky. in eastern kentucky the search for missing people is expected to resume this morning. another storm hit last night. flash floods killed at least two people and six others are missing following monday's storm. in hard hit johnson county an estimated 150 homes were destroyed or damaged. >> last night i come to the conclusion that even though i lost everything i had, my mom, my sister my niece, and me, myself, we all got out of there alive. you know, that's the bestky say about it. >> residents say they had just a few minutes to get out of their homes when the water hit. the governor has declared a state of emergency. yesterday afternoon a tornado touched down in northeast tennessee. it was one of two tornados to hit the state yesterday. winds of 105 miles per hour

seriously damaged more than a dozen buildings and trees. it hit so fast there was little time to seek shelter. >> i pulled off and went into the church and held on there and braced myself up against it and said lord please keep me safe. >> there are no reports of injury bus 6,500 residents lost pow jeer this morning mexican drug lord joaquin guzman known as el chapo remains on the loose as we learn more about his brazen and intricate escape. this is video of guzman's final moments in his cell. he's seen going to the shower area, then disappearing down a tunnel. for a second time guzman was named chicago's public enemy number one, a title he held following his first escape. >> until mr. guzman is in u.s. custody and on u.s. soil we are not going remove that designation from him because his

history has shown that he is capable of doing what he has just done. >> it's estimated guzman's mile-long escape tunnel took more than a year to build and came equipped with a motorcycle. jury dealership racings begin this morning in the murder trial of colorado gunman james holmes. his lawyers won a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity which would spare holmes the death penalty. >> he shot anything and everything he could. >> reporter: prosecutors again tried to drive home their point that james holmes knew exactly what he was doing when he kill 12 people and wounded 70 others in this aurora colorado, movie that iter. he came with one thing in his heart and in his mind. and that was mass murder. >> 911, what is your emergency? >> reporter: the prosecution wrapped by showing a picture of

the massacre's 6-year-old veronica mosher sullivan. they did not dispute holmes was the gunman but reminded jurors their client was insane at the time andy not know right from wrong. >> the fact of the matter is when mr. holmes stepped into that theater on july 20th 2012 he had lost touch with reality. >> reporter: holmes never took the stand but jurors watched nearly 22 hour of videotaped interviews with him. jurors will have to consider more than 11 weeks of at times graphic and emotional testimony as they deliberate. don champion cbs news centennial, colorado. newly released video shows the deadly police shooting of an unarmed man near los angeles. a gardena police cruiser's dash cam captured the confrontation two years ago.

delighted beachgoers as they practiced over pensacola, florida. one witness captured visit video of the f/a-18 hornets looming over. it kicked up sand sent tents and umbrellas aloft. most seemed to be pleased by the display. search crews think they've found the pieces of plane in a remote area. the teen girl who survived the crash for two days in the wilderness is out of the hospital this morning. chris martinez says a newly released 911 call brings us inside her ordeal. >> reporter: 16-year-old autumn veatch savored her first bites of chicken mcnuggets following a plane crash. her dad was happy to bring her this special delivery saying it was the only thing she asked

for. veatch was flying with her step grandparents on saturday. she posted this picture on instagram. she said they encountered bad weather and slammed into a mountain. >> i was the only one who made it out. >> reporter: veatch described her 911 ordeal from this general store two days after the crash. she was discovered here after flagging down a car 30 miles away. they say she trekked through deep rugged terrain and survived taking sips of water along the way. >> are you injured at all? >> yeah. i have a lot of burns in my hands and i'm kind of covered in bruises and scratches and stuff. >> she's recovering tremendously well, is in good spirnlts. >> reporter: chris martinez cbs news, los angeles. well, straight ahead, a stellar sight. nasa unveils never-before-seen

police in new jersey released video of a pilot's incredible landing sunday on a busy highway. he somehow manages to touch down during a pause in traffic and guide the small plane onto the median. it was carrying five people from a nearby skydiving school when it lost power. and there was a huge hazard on a south louisiana golf course. a 9-foot alligator was seen strolling on the 6 hole last week. a golfer captured it on his phone. the gator didn't cause any problem aside from being a minor distraction. eventually it returned to a pond. a california court is

hearing a case involving embryos. . a former married couple created the embryos and are now divorce and one half wanted to use them. dr. jon lapook is at the san francisco courthouse. >> reporter: dr. mimi lee was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before she got married in 2010. since chemotherapy can render a woman infer till she and her then husband stephen findley went to a fertility clinic and left five embryos. they divorced. now lee wants to use the embryos for what she says is her only chance for a child. what's at the heart of this trial? >> she said i don't want to destroy these embryos. i want to use them now and now there's a dispute as to what should be done which is why we think the court should balance the party's interest. >> this case is one of a small

but growing number over legal battles. actress sofia vergara is being sued by her ex-boyfriend for embryos they created as a couple. jacob szafranski is suing his former girlfriend dr. karla dunston. brian schroeder represents szafranski in the case. >> i don't think it's the government's role to decide when a couple becomes parents. >> reporter: last month sh road're's client lost the appeal. the court ruled creating the embryos overwritten. schroeder said his client is willing to take the case to the supreme court. when people heard there was a signed agreement to destroe the embryos in case they divorce some would argue what's the issue but mimi's attorney said the consent form was not adequately explained and is not a laelly binding contract between the couple. coming up after your local
