this is the courtyard where maddi disappeared. there are police officers and volunteers handing out flyers. police have begun the first full daylight search mobilizing sheriffs deputies, fbi, canines, boats, dozens of volunteers to find the girl. surveillance captured the last images taken of madison showing her doing what she loved, riding her scooter at 5:00 p.m. sunday afternoon. >> we are still early in our investigation. we are looking for a lost child. >> maddi was playing with friends outside the apartment complex on river street when she vanished. police say there have been no signs of foul play and do not think she ran away. >> she's an eight year old girl. it would be ambitious for her to run away. >> reporter: search crews with tracking dogs are scouring the woods, an area known for

homeless incampments. maddi's parents are not talking on camera but they are helping in the search. dozens have gathered at the spot where she was last seen. >> we are all feeling a little helpless at this point. we have checked tents and homeless camps. we have been up all night scouring trails to the river in the dark. >> reporter: she was out going, boisterous and vocal. >> a gem, the sweetest thing. >> reporter: this is the impromptu volunteer headquarters were people are cueing up, getting refreshments and flyers to search. so far there are no suspects or persons of interest. they are early in the investigation where they're ruling out scenarios and people. >> thanks for that live update, kidnap. the police department has received thousands of tips and will be searching until at least sun set.

a vallejo man killed in his car early and his friend says he heard the deadly shots. the victim's death has left many shaken. >> he was known throughout vallejo. a lot of people know him. everybody is hurting from this. >> reporter: jonathan brown is in shock his childhood friend was shot to death and crashed his car on his front lawn. >> i was in the living room watching tv, just got finished feeding my son. i was burden of proving him. -- burping him. then i heard gun shots. >> reporter: he went outside to see his car mangleed in the yard. >> i couldn't tell who it actually was. >> reporter: police got a call at 9:50 sunday night of a shooting on redwood and two minutes later a call came in reporting a traffic collision. investigators believe the victim was shot and cracked into three unoccupied cars and

died of gunshot wounds. brown showed us pictures and said this is the victim his friend elliot patterson. >> it seems like you can't do good for yourself nowadays. >> reporter: rosa patterson had just graduated from college and got a job at a local hospital. >> he knew everybody. he was a jokester. everybody knew him. when they think of elliot, he was the funny guy. >> reporter: a steady stream of people drove by including tiffany hardy who didn't want her face on camera. her son was friends with patterson. >> very, very respectful young man. he's always been. oh lord, it's heart breaking. >> reporter: doneson was so shaken she just wanted to come out to pray. >> i don't know this young man but i am a mother and it is a sad thing that another young man has gone and you don't see a sing a the person praying. >> reporter: brown is wondering

coli. the affected area is on both sides of south elmonte avenue. it was discovered after repairs to a water main on friday but no one was warned until sunday. home visits and texts went to more than 850 customers to boil water for 60 seconds before drinking or cooking with water. they advised everyone to toss out ice cubes made before sunday but customers are wondering what took so long to get the word out? >> it is sunday afternoon. i would have liked to have known sooner. it would have been nice. i hope we don't get sick, you know. it's kind of scary. >> the boil water advisory remains in effect for two more days until another round of testing is done on wednesday. cal water is offering to reimburse people for the cost of bottled water. californians will have to pay average increase of 4% in health premiums next year but cover california says there is

a massive fire erupted in sierra foothills over the weekend. four firefighters were hurt and flames are threatening dozens of homes. sean bennett takes us to the front line. cal fire says they still have a tough job ahead as they enter day three. smoke filled canyons through highway 49. you can even smell it before you get to the base camp where crews have been setting up. multiple agencies have been fighting this fire for the last three days. so far there have been four injuries to firefighters. three of them have been released from the hospital in sacramento. one remains in the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. no structures have been destroyed but so far flames are

threatening 1800 homes in both placer and nevada counties. there will be a shift in the weather. that's going to be the story. it's expected to be triple digits wednesday, thursday, friday and into the weekend as well. crews want to get an advantage and a big head start during the day shift as opposed to the night shift. >> we are optimistic with additional aircraft but our plan of attack is to increase the containment line. we want that line around it. we have increased temperatures coming with lower humidity. we really want to get ahead of this. >> reporter: mandatory evacuations are in place. we can also tell you there are over 1400 firefighters on the front lines battling the fire up here in historic gold country. meanwhile, flames from a brush fire destroyed two homes in lake county. the fire began yesterday in clear lake along dam road near

cash creek amounts. strong winds fanned the flames and flying embers started a few fires. nearby homes and the apartment complex were evacuated. the exterior of one apartment building was damaged. the fire charred eight acres of brush before crews contained it. here is a map showing major wildfires in the west. much can be blamed on lingering drought. last year at this time 1.6 million acres had burned in the u.s. that number has more than tripled this year to about 5.6 phil jackson the acres -- million acres. the drought could be the blame for the increasing cost of happy hour. washington farmers produce 75% of the country's hops, key ingredient in beer. while demand is up, the drought can devastate supply leading to a price hike. you gotta feel for the firefighters because it's going to get hotter. >> there are a couple different

things going on. it's going to get hotter and drier but by thursday we have higher relative humidity, possibility of a thunderstorm does exist and we will keep a watchful eye on that. let's look at our weather watcher program. we have several people checking in. let's see who wants to report in. we have robert in redwood city with 94. that's pretty hot. 87 in brentwood according to paul smith. jim in napa says 80 degrees, abundance of sunshine. yes, it is warmer today than yesterday and heat continues to build throughout today. let's look at some other readings around the area. this is the golden gate bridge. the coast is clear. yes, we've got nothing but clear skies and sunshine. concord is at 86. so is livermore. san francisco is in the low 70s just surpassed what the forecast high was. you have clear skies at the beaches today and we are

talking about clear skies there all the way through thursday. that's the same from sauce sausalito where the heat is building. we'll have tropical moisture in the bay area. we are looking at clouds continuing to build all the way into southern california. what we have going on is the area of low pressure traversing to the east. high pressure is trying to build in in its wake and they're causing a pressure gradient. inland highs will top at 100 beginning tomorrow. it will be short lived through wednesday and then we turn slightly cooler by thursday but again increased high humidity from subtropical moisture to the south. we have the first spare the air day of the season. that will be tomorrow. it is issued by bay area air quality district. it will be moderate air quality in east bay and south central bay, unhealthy ozone in the
