welcome to "cbs this morning." as you wake up in the west we're following breaking news. an intelligence source says the united states government is trying to confirm if one of america's longest running enemies is dead. a report from afghanistan claims mullah omar died two months ago, but a taliban spokesperson tells sky news that as far as he knows, omar is still in charge. >> a spokesman for afghanistan's president scrambled to hold a news conference this morning. his government is also investigating reports of omar's death. the ally of al qaeda has lived in seclusion for many years. he ran afghanistan until american-led forces overthrew him in 2011. >> michael morrell is here. he spent years dealing with the taliban and mullah omar. good morning. >> good morning. tell us about him before you talk about whether he is alive

phone to avoid giving the nfl information it requested is completely wrong. despite brady's claims roger goodell viewed the destrction of the cell phone as yet another piece of evidence pointing to brady's guilt. >> even though he knew investigators wanted e-mails and texts from his cell phone, brady ordered his assistance to destroy it. something he does whenever he gets a new one. he had it for just four months at that point. he noted brady's previous cell phone was still around. brady made's deliberate effort to ensure investigators would never have access to information he'd been asked to produce. "usa today's" sports columnist nancy armor says brady's phone with about 10,000 text messages was a key piece of evidence. >> if you had no knowledge, no role in this why would you destroy your cell phone? >> goodell said scientific tests
