goodrich. >> the fire in lake county has now grown to more than 22,000 acres and tonight, it's just 5% contained. the fire already destroyed 16 homes, hundreds more threatened. fire is burning in rugged terrain east of the community of lower lake. andrea is there. she spoke with one homeowner who lost everything. hi andrea. >> reporter: hi, brian. tonight we're talking about one homeowner who did lose everything. you take a look at the hills behind me, it's a very rural area out here. people have homes out there and some had to flee as the flames advanced. as you drive along morgan valley road, east of lower lake, the acres of blackened hillsides quickly become overwelming. >> i feel so bad. there's hundreds of people that live down there that just, their houses are ashes and everyone we know that lives down there, they have nothing anymore. it's crazy. >> the rocky fire has burned 16 homes to the ground.

among them, amanda o'conner. her home used to stand beyond this area covered in pink fire retardant. it's a color during fire season that is usually a sign of safety. but, it was too late for amanda's home. >> from my porch, you could see the big pillar of smoke and you know, we were deciding what to do and then we turned around and the pillar of smoke was two times bigger. all right, we got to go. >> when they snuck beyond fire lines yesterday to see what was left, they were stunned. >> we are not supposed to be there, but we want to see what we can salvage. there's nothing. it was a barbecue pit. >> amanda managed to grab her backpack. >> as we were driving down the mountain, it was on fire. >> that's it. >> i don't even have shoes to walk around in. >> she, like so many others waiting for the rocky fire to end, have only one hope. >> it's coming for a lot more houses, too. i just hope they can get it

under control soon. >> you're taking a look at a big column of smoke at the rocky fire. this is the time of day where fire activity kicks up. we were told a short time ago, that they are sending in air tankers from st. halena. that fire activity is on the north end of the fire along highway 20, which they have closedded to traffic to make sure firefighters can get in and can get out. but it's going to be a long haul out here on this fire. they don't expect full containment until august 10. >> andrea, thank you. things remain completely dry in the vicinity of the blaze. the thunderstorm risk of new ignitions there is gone. the winds aren't bad though out of the southwest at 15. but the humidity is very low. and the temperature at this hour pretty high. at 95 degrees. fire crews are facing the same conditions all over northern california. the barker and the rail fires are threatening homes in trinity county tonight. they are among two dozen lark wild fires burning across the state. >> governor jerry brown ordered flags flown at half staff in honor of a firefighter who died

battling one of the california wild fires. david was working the frog fire in the national forest when he was killed yesterday. the forest service hasn't said what happened. he was a fire captain on assignment from south dakota. he was 38 years old. >> police in san jose are investigating a wild chase and a shootout that ended in a crash. it started last night near the convention center. officers say that they approached a group of people when one took off running. when they chased after him, they say he pulled out a gun and started shooting. an officer fired back, but nobody was hit. they say the man then carjacked a vehicle and tried to run, but he ended up crashing into another car. the suspect was then arrested at the scene. nobody in the other car was seriously hurt. >> it has been a busy day out on the roads with bart's transbay tube closure. crews have been busy repairing a critical section of the system by replacing aging crossover tracks in west

oakland. a lot busier than normal this weekend. hi, christian. is. >> how are you doing? so far, it seems like the usual suspect are still filled with traffic. the bay bridge, but at this point, traveling deeper into san francisco, it actually seems like traffic is lighter than usual for a saturday afternoon. drivers seemingly are avoiding the road today. possibly due to fears of traffic nightmare this weekend. construction crews are hammering away to make repairs to the transbay tube. which runs underneath the san francisco bay. no bart train service back and forth across the bay this weekend, which still caught some commuters off guard. >> yeah, actually caught me by surprise. some lady, i was talking to her, and she was all, oh, you know, there's no train today. i was like, huh? we were lost. >> luckily, there's the option to take a bus, a ferry, or even just drive across the bay

bridge yourself. take it back and forth. for now, weekend bart service at other stations within the east bay and over on the west side of the bay bridge will have trains running more frequently this weekend than usual. you can check out the bart website for any changes to the schedule. live in san francisco, christian hartnet. >> drivers had to bring plenty of patience along for the ride. in fact, here's a live look at the toll plaza. it's been like this all day long. and there's also a big backup in both directions on the golden gate bridge heading out of the city. the parkway northbound almost at a standstill. >> if you don't want to drive during the closure, buses are your best bet, and bart is running a bus bridge across the bay all weekend. mark kelly hopped aboard just to try it out. >> i'm here at 21st and broadway in oakland at the bus bridge pickup. officials have been warning it could take more than an hour to get over the bridge today. i'm going to hop on and see how

long it takes. if anyone is under a time crunch, it's this guy. >> and it seems to be working out really well. >> racing to a job interview in the city. and so far, this temporary transbay bus has him on time. >> i give him an a plus. >> on both sides of the bay, bart has positioned an army of staff. and has buses loading up riders every 45 seconds. >> it's running pretty smooth. still early. >> after bart has been warning riders of the shutdown for weeks. it seems many opted to avoid the crossing all together. >> fewer people are actually riding bart than they normally do on saturday. by about 50%. so that's helping keep the buses moving. >> but staying home, not an option for this family. they have to show their out of town guests, san francisco, and this bus was their only choice. >> did you expect it to be

finding new ways to fight the drought in the east bay. a water expo today in dublin showed homeowners how they can cut back. water saving devices, tips on how to create a drought tolerant garden and other things. the big push has been being able to get recycled water. shows you live in dublin, or pleasantton. you can start filling up. >> recycled water in the past has been available for industrial users. now, any resident can come and

get it. i think it's showing your neighbors that you don't have to go brown, you can have a green lawn, just use recycled water to do so. >> the trivalley has been good so far at conserving water. residents are beating the targets set by the state. >> state regulators are trying to help grow a better business environment for the cannabis industry. the two sides met in san francisco yesterday. at issue, banking. right now, banks can't do business with pot dispensaries because marijuana is still illegal under federal law. so dispensary owners have to carry around big bags of cash to pay their tax bills. a potentially dangerous practice. >> that's what they have to do. they have to come over to our office, drop off their cash to pay their taxes and then we walk across the street and deposit their money. >> in all of the dispensaries throughout california, very difficult to get a bank account for anybody in the cannabis industry, so the entire industry is a cash basis industry. >> is the state tax board is

now proposing that legal marijuana businesses have the same access to banks as any other business, but it remains to be seen how they'll work it out with the feds. if you need a copy of an official craddock yiewment like birth or marriage certificate, you might have trouble getting it. the state is facing a shortage of official certificate paper. it comes exclusively from an ohio company that went out of business. in modesto, the county recorder is limiting the release of birth certificates. >> only one copy per person. >> did you know that? >> no, i didn't. that's fine with me. >> how many do you really need? i mean, hopefully you can keep it in a file cabinet or safe enough place where you're not going to lose it. >> the issue is antiquated technology. dozens of states adopted new regulations that use new security methods to print official documents. california may soon have to do the same. >> and still to come, reeling them in. bay area fishermen say these

well the bay area can't buy a drop of rain, but in southern california, they are having the opposite problem. this is the damage after a serious of violent storms swept through the palm springs area. the downpours only lasted a few

minutes in some place, but the rain was so heavy, it was enough to close roads. thousands of people even lost power. now another sign a healthy el nino is approaching. captains say the warmer water is attracting and attracting bigger fish. even those kids are happy campers after a day of fishing. everyone. ask dennis o'donnell about that. are you doing okay on that? >> we'll hear from dennis shortly. we're starting out with mostly clear skies around the bay area, except right at the shoreline. when we have fog and low clouds, and that big backup coming to san francisco, continues to be a problem tonight. concord 84 degrees. oakland at 73. 83. still warm in the east bay. san francisco 68 and in san jose, 78. everybody will cool a little bit tomorrow as low pressure digs deep off the pacific northwest and that high that was over the southwest eases a

bit. so while we had a few thunderstorms in the mountains today, cooler air moves in and with a sea breeze being reestablished, mild temperatures all week this coming week, so we'll go back to stratus quo, the usual low clouds in the morning and sun in the afternoon. the future cast, we're looking at temperatures pretty much the same tomorrow. maybe a degree or two off. you can see this is tomorrow morning, 8:00 a.m., plenty of low clouds. give way to sunshine later in the afternoon as that sea breeze kicks in. the marine layer kicks in until tomorrow night. the old flow of the low clouds offshore to sum it up, slight cooling continues, inland highs. and coast land drizzle, same next week. 78 degrees, plenty of sun, and since you're up, you want to take in the county fair and santa rosa s80 degrees under mostly sunny skies or if you want to cool down a little bit, stern grove always a good place to head.

49er fans will get their first look at the 2015 team tonight. at levi stadium, and they will see a renewed vernon davis. at least according to him, 49ers tight end is coming off his lowest cash title since his rookie year. many wondered why he disappeared from the offense. davis sat out last season's mini camp and then the offseason workouts because he wanted a new contract. but davis said it was an adviser that told him to hold out and during the season, davis realized it was bad advice. you think? >> during the course of that season, i had a chance to really think about it, what am i doing? you know, i don't play this for money. it's good. it's good to have that, to be rewarded and things, but what am i doing? it frustrates me at this point, because i was actually doing something so i could get paid. >> you have that person

way. you want him to do his thing, and this time around, it's completely different. especially having 16 games under my belt. you know what to expect. you've seen it, and you can hit the ground running a lot fast err. >> man, that guy talked a good game. colin kaepernick, and there is good news out of raider camp. returned to practice for the first time since december when he suffered a hip injury that required surgery. he is expected to start at outside linebacker. after firing a 66 yesterday, all eyes were on tiger woods after he moved within three shots of the lead at the quicken loans nationals. at the golf club in virginia. rickie fouler putting on the par 3, fourth hole. this is a 70-foot put. now the guy is going to get in the way, but trust me, it goes down. 3 under today. he is one shot off the league. tiger lost his putting touch and struggled off the tee. case in point, he found the water on the 7th hole.

streak to 37. deep, gone, dodgers beat the angels 3-1. they are now two games up on the giants for playing right now in texas. now back on wednesday night, met shortstop was seen crying on the field. he had reportedly been traded to milwaukee, but stayed in the game. much to flores' relief. the deal fell apart and he stayed in new york. and last night, in the 12th inning against the nationals, flores hit a walkoff home run to win it for the mets. new york manager, terry collins said this was something even the media couldn't script. >> you know, i'm sitting here looking at guys who are outstanding writers. you can't write that. you guys couldn't come up with that. and you're good. but that's unbelievable. can it happen at a better time to a better person and in a bigger situation than that, then we are all so thrilled for
