can do this at 6:30 on a sunday. shorts and sun glasses. but that is how hot it is in the bay area. one place where people are able to beat the heat today was ocean beach. we spotted plenty of people lounging on the sand. it was quite crowded. some opted to cool off with a step into the chilly waters. we know to one of the warmest places in the bay area. walnut creek, still sweating it out. christian? >> i rocked the polo today, so far not good. i can not take it off for the broadcast. we will have to keep it on. but right now we are in the shade. we have been in the shade for the last few hours we are still sweating. hot, can not get away from the heat right now. no matter where you go. plain and simple you can not escape it. it feels a lot like summer right now. people here are fighting for shade. although it is not really doing the trick. sipping on cold drinks. that is better, people are

doing anything they can to stay cool. >> we actually walked through the store just to get cooled off. >> we are going to into apple. apple is cool. >> yes. going in and out of stores. staying cool. >> reporter: i think the only place you can escape the heat is a way to jump into the ocean right now. a lot of people are doing that at ocean beach. luckily for the people, don't like the heat. the heatwave, it looks like we are having it. another day of it. it looks like in the next week it should cool down a little bit. we are live, kpix5. >> you can expect to see more of this for the next 24 hours. there another spare the air alert tomorrow. we will be blanketed in smoke and fog. not as bad tomorrow but don't go outside unless you have to.

concord, one04. santa rosa -- 104, santa rosa, 105 degrees. it is fixed over the west. producing record temperatures and brought smoke from the oregon border into the bay area. after another warm day tomorrow, we will get a bit of a break inland with low clouds come back. all of the details coming up in the forecast in a few minutes. >> the weather providing no relief from the firefighters dealing with all of the wildfires in the west. there are 18 going on in california right now. the jerusalem fire in lakecouldn't seup to 82% contained. -- lake county is up to 82% contained. winds picking up at sacramento with triple digit heat. new concerns fires could erupt at any moment. the fire burned as many as 6 buildings after it erupted and quickly grown to 300 acres. the firefighters say the structures that went up in flames were abandoned. they are having a difficult time getting a handel on this

fire. the temperature is around 100 degrees and the winds starting to pick up within the last half- hour. >> in washington state, a massive wildfire is burning out of control in the northwest corner of the state. more than 55,000 acres have been scorched in just the past 48 hours. 50 structures have been destroyed. so far containment is just 1%. and, in idaho, 50 homes have been destroyed by wildfires consumed 20,000 acres. four separate fires are burning in the northern part of the state. mandatory evacuations are in place right now. one elderly woman was killed when she fell leaving her home. delivering freshwater tonight, broken pipe left homes with little or no water pressure in 20 square blocks on friday night. they h-t problem pafpd up this morning. the city says water may be discolored for awhile but it is -- they had a problem patched

up this morning. the city says the water may be discolor oned for awhile but dis-- discolored on wednesday. now, a case of road rage, a driver got out of the car and stabbed him. then he got in the car and ran over the other man and killed him. he has now been arrested. a chp officer says a woman was in the number 2 lane on the freeway when she was hit. the driver said she swerved to avoid her but was too late. the driver has been cooperating and not charged. we expect to learn more tomorrow about why the police shot and killed a suspect and what happened to a second armed suspect who escaped. they remain tight lip about what happened at a mottle 6 near highway 101 yesterday. officers were responding to a report of suspicious activity and then he approached it.

the two men got out of the car and started running. one dropped an ammunition clip and headed behind a business. not clear what happened but the officers ended up shooting and killing him. a news conference is set for tomorrow. coming up, easing congestion and frustration. how a bay area city fought and won the fight with misdirected drivers. >> bay area ride shares ,,,,,,,,

>> ntsb are investigating why this plane crash happened in southern california. temperatures are cooler today. mark kelly is here with how the city fixed the beach traffic troubles. >> reporter: knowing how easily weekend drivers take over the streets. >> saturday and sunday during the summer it would take 15 minutes, it affects traffic during summer for sure. >> reporter: today, it felt different. >> today, today is not too bad. >> reporter: much of the credit goes to these orange cones. >> and big bold signs telling drivers to stay off of the side streets. >> what difference have the cones made. >> perfect. back to normal. >> reporter: the folks that live here is a they love the cones it is giving them back their quiet residential street. to give you an idea how bad traffic got, rewind a few weeks ago and it looked like this. drivers just puffing along. many blame the app for rowing drivers through there as a shortcut to highway 17. >> so, we used to have to put

[ laughter ] >> roller coaster did not make it but we did. >> only 3 wooden roller coasters remain in northern california. well the rift between cabbies and car shaving services are growing larger tonight. this time in san jose. the city council adopted a pilot program that will allow uber and lyft drivers through the san jose airport as long as they meet the same rules cabbies do. that is registered with the city and getting finger printed. taxi drivers say it will level the playing ground. lyft drivers are refusing to sign up for the program. it goes into effect in two weeks. soccer teams from around the country competing in the bay area. why these mayers share a special bond. and, we will see when we give all of this hot weather -- give all of this hot weather -- why these players

the thing burger. welcome to denny's. it may be august but in some places it looks like october. some of the trees are changing. it is all because of the drought. the trees are not acting like it is fall because of the cold spell but instead the lack of water. four years of a drought are taking a toll and could end with disastrous results. the drought is hitting california's wine country. grape growers say it is one of the earliest harvests they can

remember. some of them started picking their crops at the end of july. several say they will finish their harvest before the time they would norlly start the picking. the producers of one wine are taking the biggest hit. yields are low but wine prices are not expected to spike. a beautiful day for a game to take over civic center plaza in san francisco. hundreds of players are taking part in a street soccer tournament. this is about more than just a competition. the registration fees go towards social programs that help the homeless and kids living in poverty. the tournament is supposed to wrap up tomorrow. it is put on by street soccer, usa. and here is one way to beat the heat. check it out. thousands gathered in the city of mostar to witness dives from the old bridge. it was the 6th stop of the red bull cliff diving world series

102 degrees and in livermore as we approach time for 60 minutes i mean, it is -- it is now almost 10 minutes to 7 in the evening and still 104 at livermore. 79 here in the city and 97 in santa rosa. the air quality suffers, of course, spare the air day tomorrow, unhealthful levels of pollution in the east bay valley. tomorrow, for the second day in a row. spare the air. high pressure, hot weather. still, the numbers should come down a little bit as we get a westerly breeze. the smoke, the haze, much of it from the trinity fire near the oregon fire. combined with the lake county fire. just a gentle flow that was off shore for part of the weekend brought in part of the smoke. but, sea breeze should re- establish itself gently tomorrow more so on monday and tuesday and that should clear us out. and frankly push it back into the valley. mild weather tomorrow along the shoreline but still hot inland. just not as hot. future cast shows low clouds to the rescue of the shoreline. that influence that we frozen here at 8:00 tomorrow morning,
