videos. >> reporter: the police only invited, quote, major media outlets to view these videos. they didn't allow to us take in any recording equipment. all we can do was take notes. the first video oakland police presented showed what happened as they shot and killed nate wilkes last week after a high- speed chase in a stolen car. the robbery suspect crashed at 27th and northgate. that's when the foot chase began and that is where the video picked up the story. it was difficult to see what was happening. the body camera mounted on the officer's chest jolted up and down as he ran. you could hear officers yelling drop the gun and sirens. in and out of frame you could city a man running down the sidewalk. he did appear to turn around and head back toward officers. officers say he was holding this gun. but the only image of a gun in the video was a shadow. in that image it's not pointed directly at the officer. >> i think they have to stop and directly extend their arms. we know that's not true. all it takes is a simple

squeeze of the trigger from whatever position and that weapon is very deadly to anybody. >> reporter: police showed us another video to try to prove they used no force in the death of richard lynn yard who died while watched in a space about a food white -- wedged in a space about a food wide on international boulevard after a foot chase with police. the officers were calling get your hands up and when he doesn't they say it looks like he is knocked out and do not tase him. once officers broke down a fence, one yelled start cpr. he died on the scene. the cause is unknown. >> the public has a right to know what happened. so we want to respect that. but at the same time, we want to respect the integrity of our investigation. >> reporter: the suspects' families were invited to see these videos before reporters. the family of the suspect shot by police did see the videos. the family of the man who was wedged decided not to. police say they will eventually make these videos public when they are finished with their

investigation. anne makevoc, kpix 5. an intense manhunt for a suspect caught on camera moments before he and two others allegedly murdered someone in an office. kpix 5's kiet do shows us the evidence. >> reporter: the final moments of christopher wrenn's life ended in horror. ambushed by three armed men in an office building on lundy avenue. even with his hands up he had no chance. police say seconds before the victim runs into his killers, video shows him creeping around the corner. >> the suspects were running after and intimidating and terrorizing the victim. >> reporter: two of the men in the video are dead. police shot and killed 29-year- old matthew castillo and 40- year-old richard jacquez in the last three days. police say jaquez was ready to kill someone else monday. they followed him in a car until he crashed it and started running toward a house. >> so the officer fired at the suspect once he did not comply with officers' commands. the suspect turned around and the officer fired again.

[ crying ] >> reporter: last night, jaquez's family leaned on each other for support at the memorial. >> he meant something to us. we think the way he died was brutal. it shouldn't have went down like that. he was unarmed. >> reporter: san jose police said they had reason to believe that jaquez was armed with the same tec-9 style gun that he allegedly used in the office killing. the man in the middle, is that your uncle? >> yes, it is. >> reporter: they released this image from the video where they say he is seen in the video killing somebody else. >> he didn't kill anybody. he didn't kill anybody. i know he didn't. it may have been the other person. he didn't kill anybody. >> reporter: you see in the photo he has a handgun. >> okay, yeah. but that doesn't mean he killed somebody. he has a gun, so what? it doesn't mean he killed anybody. it doesn't mean he deserved to die the way he did. he's not a freaking dog. >> reporter: police have been urging the third suspect to turn himself in. he was last seen wearing all black, 5'10 to 6' with a heavy

build and like the other men is considered armed and dangerous. in san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. >> and san jose police are not naming the suspect they are looking for but hope the public can tell them where he is. firefighters worked to put out a six acre fire in san jose. it started at 10:00 last night a mile south of heartland way. it took eight hours to put it out because it was on a steep hill. no homes or businesses were threatened. national guard sent troops to fight fires burning up in washington state. overnight, the flames forcing more people to evacuate. the lightning sparked fires burned more than 170 square miles, destroyed 75 buildings. firefighters known as smoke jumpers are parachuting in to put out some of the hot spots. >> crews are out almost every week for those 14-day assignments on fire after fire after fire.

>> it's the first time since 2006 that soldiers have been brought in for fire suppression. former subway spokesman jared fogle agreed to plead guilty to having sex with a minor and child porn. fogle left an indianapolis courthouse this morning. he will pay each of the 14 minor victims $100,000 and register as a sex offender. adriana diaz with more. >> reporter: former subway spokesman jared fogle pleaded guilty to child porn charges during a court appearance in indianapolis. prosecutors released documents wednesday laying out the charges against him. they accuse the former pitchman of traveling to new york city to pay for sex acts with minors. fogle is also accused of knowingly receiving child pornography secretly produced by russell taylor, the executive director of fogle's foundation. the court appearance comes six weeks after federal agents seized computers and other evidence from fogle's home. two months before the raid, authorities arrested taylor on

child pornography charges. >> hi, i'm jared the subway guy. >> reporter: the 37-year-old became a household name more than 15 years ago as a pitchman another subway after he lost more than 200 pounds. the company tweeted tuesday night we no longer have a relationship with jared and have no further comment. adriana diaz, cbs news, indianapolis. >> fogle still faces prison time of five to 12 years. his attorney says jared has a medical problem and expects to get well. oscar pistorius may not be released early why prison. the south african department of justice spokesman says they need to review the release terms again. the spokesman says pistorius needs to serve 10 months before being considered for release. he only served eight months before being approved for parole. his original sentence, 5 years for killing his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. chelsea manning has been found guilty of violating prison rules. he is serving 35 years for espionage for sending classified documents to

wikileaks. now caught with prohibited items including a copy of "vanity fair" with caitlyn jenner on the cover. manning will face prison restrictions including limited access to the gym, library and outdoors. the judge presiding over the "deflate-gate" scandal will hear from lawyers on both sides today before making a decision. patriots quarterback tom brady wasn't in court. he was caught practicing in west virginia weeks before his team hosts the pittsburgh steelers in the nfl season opening game. the federal judge says a settlement in the case is a logical and rational option. he hopes to decide the case by the beginning of next month if there is no settlement. a stanford statue has been vandalized again. the arm has been removed from the angel of grief on campus. during the 2006 earthquake someone took its left hand and it was stolen again a few decades ago. >> she had created this for her family and it was a shame to see the arm off for so many years and it was great to see

search is under way for a bombing in thailand. a man is shown leaving a backpack under a bench on monday. moments after he walked away, a huge explosion. [ explosion ] >> tough to watch. 20 people were killed and more than 120 others were injured. police believe the bomber was not acting alone. meanwhile, investigators are still trying to determine if there is a connection to another pipe bomb explosion. that one happened yesterday at a pier also in bangkok. nobody was injured in that blast. investigators are looking into the possibility of a politically motivated bombing campaign. two people are still unaccounted for after a huge explosion at a washington state motel. daylight shows the devastation at the motel 6 in bremerton. federal investigators have been asked to help in finding the cause. reporter brook silva braga says

quick staff member work saved lives. >> reporter: firefighters battled flames after a massive gas explosion at a motel 6 near seattle, washington. the motel worker, who is also a former volunteer firefighter, smelled gas outside and cleared the building. >> we got all the guests to the upper part near burger king. we have been out there 10 minutes and the explosion happened. >> reporter: heinz had also called 911 but fire and gas crews couldn't stop the leak. >> our firefighters were actually as they were in the scene, they were blown back about 20 feet. >> reporter: a gas worker is the one known injury. he is being treated for serious burns. the cause of the leak is under investigation. the red cross is finding alternate housing for the motel guests. growing health scare up at yosemite. a second person who visited the park has tested positive for the plague. two plague infected squirrels have been found near tuolumne meadows. campground is closed until at least friday as crews treat the

area with flea killer. earlier this month a child got the plague after going to yosemite. that child has recovered. a new study says much of the head lice in america is resistant to treatment including here in california. it says overuse of treatments may have led to the tiny bugs to develop resistance to treatments in shampoos. pediatricians say it's a nuisance, not a serious health hazard. it's popular in some bay area backyards raising chickens to offset eggs and poultry prices. kpix 5's mark kelly says another city may follow its neighbor's lead. >> reporter: forget the grocery store. at this san leandro home, fresh eggs get plucked straight from the backyard. that's for san leandro. but for backyard chickens to fly here in hayward, there's some concern. >> i'm concerned about sanitation when it comes to livestock. >> reporter: also a concern, the noise. >> reporter: chickens get talkative from time to time. >> they do make a mess. they do make noises. and they ought to be responsible for that. >> reporter: negatives aside, marian sanchez is all for allowing more backyard chickens in hayward like they do in san leandro, pleasant hill and a few other bay area cities. he just thinks the permits should be cheaper. now it's a whopping $500. is that too expensive? >> maybe half that, like 250. >> that's a lot $500. yeah. >> reporter: the city agrees. and if the rules change, hayward could be chicken- friendly by the fall. >> trying to look at ways to simplify the process. fresh eggs are really great tasting. i think people like to have fresh eggs and have that disposal. [ cluck cluck ] >> reporter: in hayward, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> moraga also looking at allowing backyard chickens. the planning commission took it up this week. a rescue going on in the pacific. an elite rescue team based out of moffett field is trying to save a man's life 900 miles

offshore. the california air national guard rescue wing is tending to a sick crewman on a container ship. the pararescue group was asked for help by the coast guard. they are credited with saving more than 1,000 lives in remote areas on land and by the sea. a search is under way for men in a landslide. a heavy downpour caused landslides and sing coles destroying at least one home and taking three men with it including two brothers and the fire marshal. the city is now in a state of emergency. in florida, sinkhole opened up in the same spot where one swallowed a man two years ago. the hole is reportedly 20 feet in diameter. back in 2013, the sinkhole killed a man as he slept in his home. his body was never recovered. no one was hurt in the new sinkhole. time for weather. the big cooldown is here. we can finally sleep well at night and that marine layer, boy, what a nice run.

a female sex pill now has approval from the federal government. the pill is the world's first drug designed to boost' woman's sexual desire. it's only approved for premenopausal women. the fda rejected the drug twice because of side effects including severely low blood pressure. a new study suggests u.s. teens who try ecigarettes are more than twice as likely to use conventional cigarettes.
