welcome to "cbs this morning." norah o'donnell is off. clarissa ward is with us. as you wake up in the west, horrible wildfires are showing their deadly force. flames killed three firefighters in washington state. they were trapped near twisp after their vehicle crashed. >> it forced new evacuations of at least three tons. it's brning about 100 miles an hour northeast of seattle and is one of several in the state. daniel nottingham is in twisp. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the names of the deceased have not been released, and we're waiting for an update on the conditions of the injured firefighters. they were working in this wildfire zone that exploded wednesday, forcing evacuations of at least three additional nearby towns. fierce flames continue to bear down on twisp, washington, into the night. it was near here that three u.s.

forest service firefighters were killed after their vehicle was involved in an accident. shifting winds likely fanned fast-moving flames that eventually overtook them. >> it was a hell storm up here, and i don't know. we just know the fire was racing and the wnds were blowing in every direction and then they would shift. >> reporter: at least one of the four injured firefighters was airlifted here to harbor view medical center in seattle where family members gathered last night. he remains in critical condition. >> how tough is it to hear that firefighters died battling. >> it's hour i shaubl. it's devastating. we had a horrible day and have to go out and do what we were trained to do. >> reporter: you can see flames from ridge top to ridge top and how far they stretch along the horizon. the flames are moving so fast even the town's mayor went door to door urging residents to leave. >> you are the mayor. firefighters died trying to

protect, you know, a lot of these homes and residents. what's your reaction? >> right now i really want to make sure that everyone is safe as possible and the firefighters are safe. >> reporter: the fire spread so quickly those living there had landfill ti little time to get out. >> we saw the river between twisp river and us was a plume one one end to the other. something we haven't seen ever. and it was red. >> reporter: twisp is one of multiple area towns under complete evacuation orders this morning. roads leading out of town were jammed as more than 5,000 people rushed to evacuate. washington governor jay insley has asked president obama for emergency federal assistance. the governor plans to tour a fire zone in nearby washington later today. emergency personal from australia and new zealand will

be deployed this weekend to help fight nearly 80 fires burning here out west. >> danielle, thank you. a new campaign poll this morning shows donald trump dominating another big name republican in three swing states. the quinnipiac poll shows trump leading jeb bush by between 4 and 18 points. it also found many more republicans in those states would never support trurchl. almost one-third say they kourld not vote for him. bush is viewed more favorable. bush and trump attacked each other's conservative credentials. major garrett covered the trump town hall at pinkerton academy in derry, new hampshire. major, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. in new hampshire, presidential campaigns routinely cross paths. it's not uncommon for candidates to compete for votes blocks from each other. last night here in derry, donald trump and jeb bush were that

as the cover of "time" magazine says this week about all of it, deal with it. the next stop for trump will be tomorrow in mobile, alabama. they've reserved a stadium and trump is expecting a crowd of between 30,000 and 40,000. >> we are dealing with it. thank you, major. hillary clinton's campaign is getting more aggressive. it rejects the idea she knew e-mails in her private server had classified information. the server was indeed erased. in an interview, a campaign spokeswoman had trouble explaining how. >> what did she ask to be done with those e-mails. >> to be deleted. and beyond that i don't understand. this looks like everyone is an expert on inflatding footballs and now everybody is an expert on wiping serbers. i don't know how that all works. >> jan crawford is in washington where we are learning more about two of clinton's e-mails. >> those two e-mails are giving us an idea of the kind of

information being exchanged on her private server. both of them uncovered in the ongoing congressional investigation into the attack in benghazi, libya. and officials say they contained classified information. the first e-mail from april 2011 was forwarded to clinton by aide huma abedin. the second forwarded by aide jacob sullivan outlined reports of possible arrests in connection with the benghazi attack. the e-mails are among the some 30,000 clinton turned over from her private server. on monday the state department said it reviewed 20% of those and flagged 305 e-mails as potentially containing classified information. the concern in the intelligence community is that classified ema e-mail oz a private server could be easily hacked or compromised. clinton insists she did not send or receive classified

information through her server, something the campaign press secretary reiterated on wednesday. >> the state department is on record saying nothing of the information in that e-mail was classified at the time it was sent. and that's consistent with what hillary clinton and our campaign have been saying. >> reporter: it's not just clinton's private server that contained sensitive information. it does not believe that any personal computing device was issued by the department to clinton. dan ackerman is an editor at c net. >> any time you bring your own equipment and use it for work purposes, it's not as secure as something issued by the company because they take those laptops, for example, and they preconfigure them. >> reporter: despite the campaign's assistance the e-mails weren't marked intelligence at the time. that doesn't matter. domt documents and handwritten notes can be classified and not necessarily stamped classified. former president jimmy carter said moments ago he has

best known tv pitch men had no comment as he left court wednesday. but u.s. attorney josh minkler didn't mince words. >> this is about using wealth, status and secrecy to illegally exploit children. >> reporter: investigators reviewed nearly 48,000 images and almost 3400 videos. some secretly recorded by russell taylor, fogel's friend and only paid employee of the now defunct jerod fondation. >> russell taylor was sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl. fogel chose to receive and repeatedly view child pornography involving that 14-year-old girl. fogel admitted he repeatedly traveled from indiana to new york to engage in commercial sex acts with victims he knew to be children. >> reporter: a 12-page charging document outlined fogel's crimes, including his time to new york, texting one of the underage girls, offering to pay

a finder's fee if she could get him a 16-year-old girl while stating the younger the girl, the better. if the plea deal is excepted he'll pay $1.4 million in restitution, $100,000 to each victim. jeremy margolis is his attorney. >> he knows the restitution can't undo the damage he has done but he'll do all in his power to make it right. >> reporter: the investigation into fogel and the head of his charity russell taylor came from a tip from a private citizen. fogel's first known interest in child pornography took place in 2007, a year before taylor was hired. surveillance video at this morning shows a natural gas line exploding at a motel six outside seattle. the line may have been damaged before tuesday's blast. a gas company worker was critically hurt when it leveled part of the hotel.

two of the guests reported missing are now safe. they were not in the building at the time. a door fell on off airbus jet during a fight. it landed on the seven th green of a north carolina golf course. it came from flight 1910. american says the a-321 operated by usairways was preparing to land in charlotte at the time. golfers saw the door fall from the sky. >> my buddy sonny and mike said, what is that that fell? it wasn't a leaf. >> reporter: the plane with 146 people on board landed safely. the missing panel would not have endangered that flight. the fbi is investigating the cyberattack on the cheating website ashley madison. as we have reported, hackers apparently delivered on their threat to expose customers' private manufacture with a ma massive data dump. some victims could face a lot more than divorce. cbs news legal expert rikki

klieman is with us. what is the fbi looking for? >> we have to remember that after we have our first reaction of adulters, they deserve this, oh, this website, they deserve it. push that aside and let the lawyer in me talk. hacking is a crime, and it is a bad crime. this was a highly encrypted site. these hackers got into that site. the fbi is looking, if they could get into this, they could get into any site. take the morality out of it. look at a retail site. if you get hackers that can get in and git your name, e-mail, address, part of your credit card information and then put you up for blackmail, if you don't pay us money, we're going to expose all this information. in essence, that's what happened here. >> is there a legal liable irt? >> i think there is legal liability and it's against that company. the company insisted it was

secure. obviously, they can't ensure that. we know nothing today is secure. but ultimately, they did have warning for one month. they let that site stay up. there were people who paid $19 a person who have something caltot your name off. it's not just your name. it's your e-mail address. >> people were so shocked that 15,000 e-mail addresses were linked to government accounts. that's baffling. why would you use your dotgov account? >> one thing we have to remember is some of these may be fake. someone may have put up your name, my name. if you have a military account, a government account, the consequences are dire. first of all, you are subject to blackmail if you know sensitive information. in the military you could be court-martialed, go into confinement, get a dishonorable discharge. if you have used an employer's account you could also be fired.

great start this morning. pretty much areawide, take a look at this shot from dublin, sun screaming through the clouds. we will see plenty of blue sky later on today as these clouds burn off late morning early afternoon. in the meantime, gray skies will continue. here's high temperatures once we see sunshine: the extended forecast shows not a whole lot of change. we will stick with this through the end of the weekend. we're talking mid-80s inland, 70s by the bay, mid-60s along the coast. the next sign of change comes early next week where we cool temperatures down and we increase cloud cover. and we'll have a check of traffic after the break.
