nasdaq down 110. s&p down more than 40. let's check with kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. what's going on? >> it's another brutal day. it's going to be ugly when you look at your 401(k) report when it comes out. especially if most of your investment is in equities. just another sell-off of the stock market. investors really focused on china. china has been a huge growth engine for the global economy in recent years. but its stock market has been tanking much worse than on wall street now over the past three months the economy slowing down, number of moves by beijing not doing enough. and now that's coming here. stocks are expensive during a bull run that lessed more six years. will the feds raise or not raise rates? when you have a lot of uncertainty and volatility investors are selling. that's what we are seeing today with the dow and nasdaq pretty much in correction territory at this point. >> i guess the big question now

is it panic time? are being going to be selling? >> reporter: hopefully not panic. corrections are normal for the stock market especially when you have been going up for so long. they pull back after a while. that's what we're looking at now. the scene whether or not it gets worse and we fall 20% for the all-time highs for the market which would be a bear market far more serious. >> monday is a couple of days away. we can only hope come monday. thank you. a developing story near vallejo. a warehouse holding hazardous materials burned to the ground sending toxic fumes into the air. anne makovec reports. >> very fast-moving fire. >> reporter: it started at around 11:00 last night at the alco iron works building. flames were shooting out of the roof which quickly collapsed. inside, a burning mess of hazardous waste used oil, lead batteries, old tvs and computers and several large propane tanks. the inferno created dangerous

sparks as pieces of burning debris flew in the air. >> it started about 15 different spot fires in the grass fields behind us here. it was a three-alarm structure fire and grassfires. >> reporter: firefighters gave these masks to reporters covering the fire this morning. that smoke is full of toxic chemicals. most of it dissipated before it made it to residential neighborhoods. today only a partial shell of the 62,000-square-foot warehouse remains. >> any of the walls could give way. >> reporter: and could fall into the smoldering pile of toxic debris. >> it's going to take project throughout the day to finish putting the fire out. if not, it might burn for days. >> reporter: the cause is under investigation. on mare island, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >> almost a year ago to the day there was another big fire at alco. on august 22, 2014, a fire

broke out in a recycling facilities yard. firefighters kept it from spreading to the warehouse. another fire this morning started in alameda at a building. firefighters arrived at the scene on central avenue around 7:00 this morning. cell phone video shows plumes of smoke on the block. it started at a storefront on the ground floor and spread to apartments above. the cause is under investigation. firefighters are making progress putting out the "tesla fire" near livermore. the blaze that started on wednesday now 60% contained. it's burned 2500 acres and destroyed one structure. evacuation orders still in effect for that fire. a fire in washington state killed three firefighters and is growing in size. firefighters say the "twist fire" has grown by more than 100 square miles in a day because flames are jumping fire lines. even the fire base camp is prepared to evacuate. couple of days ago three firefighters died when they

crashed the vehicle and flames came to them. time is up for the city plan of oakland. the developer floyd kephart is facing a deadline to detail the 120-acre project. it will include a new stadium for the raiders, thousands of new homes, retail and office space, and a new hotel. there's a lot riding on the plan. it could be the city's last chance to keep the raiders in oakland. they are already eyeing a move to another stadium near l.a. former 49ers executive carmen policy told nfl owners the raiders and charges are committed to moving there. during a presentation last week, raiders management made it clear they are ready to move back to southern california. expect ferry delays. golden gate ferry service impacted by work going on at the san francisco terminal. operators say departures may run up to 15 minutes late today and through the weekend. and come monday, bart riders can breathe a little easier.

the agency will begin cleaning and sprucing up 127 elevators in stations, new flooring to be installed that won't absorb odors and liquids. the work will take months to finish. check bart's website for which ones are affected. two women are making history in the army by graduating from the ranger school. first lieutenant shaye haver and captain kristen griest were part of a pilot program to see if women could endure the mental and physical demands of the ranger school. now they hope to open doors for other women. >> your subordinate, your peer, your leaders, expect you to be able to handle the toughest tasks. they and your country will expect you to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier. >> despite graduating both women cannot serve in a ranger regiment but the military has until october to review its policy on women in combat. a florida tv reporter has

come forward saying she was the one who helped put former subway pitchman jared fogle behind bars. rochelle herman says she overheard him call middle school girls hot at a florida event she was covering in 2007. that led to an investigation and herman wearing a wire to secretly record conversations with jared fogle in which he expressed having sex with minors. fogle has agreed to plead guilty to charges of paying for sex with minors and receiving child pornography. the cheating website ashley madison is dealing with the release of more confidential material. hackers posted internal documents and details of additional users. michelle miller explains why it's become a concern for the pentagon. ♪[ music ] >> reporter: in their latest data dump, hackers calling themselves impact team appear to have taken aim at ashley madison's top executive, ceo. along with the trove of internal files the group posted

this message, hey, knoll, you can admit it's real now. the statement came just days after hackers exposed cheating spouses around the world releasing 32 million members' dating profiles and personal information. around 15,000 email addresses appeared to try back to u.s. government accounts. defense secretary ashton carter confirmed thursday that the pentagon is looking into some of the people on the list who use military addresses. >> of course, it's an issue because conduct is very important and we expect good conduct on the part of our people. >> reporter: ashley madison is still operating but traffic on its website dropped 40% in july when the hackers first threatened to release data unless the website shut down. the company says the hackers are criminals who appointed themselves as moral judge, jury and executioner. the hackers claim they are just exposing security flaws in a site offering a 100% discreet service. >> i think it's going to be

smashed at least four cars below. one car has its hood crushed and windshield shattered. and a crew from the city department of public works was sent out to cut up and cart those branches away. as more drones take to the skies, the number of misbehaving drone operators is also on the rise. kpix 55's kiet do shows us how people can report dangerous drone use. >> the date and time you observe the drone being flown and the best known information. it could lead to arrest and save lives. >> reporter: if you see a drone operating unsafely in a wildfire area, they want you to call it in. now, this new drone tip line is unprecedented step to a growing problem. there have been a dozen cases this year alone where a drone interfered with factfinding efforts and grounded or kept air tankers and helicopters out of the airspace. the fear that a drone would cause a midair collision. often times finding the operator is like finding a needling in a haystack. >> we have had cases where

let's check in with the big board. it's down a lot by 425 points. injuries to corneas of dogs and cats are one of the most common eye ailments seen by veterinarians and we welcome dr. jill chase this noontime with brutus and buttercup. >> brutus is snoozing. >> like the bowtie, too. >> thanks. >> what is a cornea? >> the cornea is the clear part of your eye. >> yeah. and how do we know if our -- we know when we have an issue but how do we know when the dog has an issue? >> it's very painful so you will see squinting and eye discharge very painful and we consider eyes medical emergencies because the sooner we can get on top of it and treat it the less likely we will impair the vision. >> yeah. is it clouded? can you look in their eyes and

see it? >> in the beginning with a scratch to the cornea you may not see anything but we have a special stain we put on the eye so we can check to see whether or not there's a scratch. >> you can't put a contact lens on it. how do you repair it? >> usually we sometimes will give them medication. we also have the elizabethan collar to keep them from scratching. i notice that brutus has been licking that eye. >> unusual for a young dog or later in life? >> any dog. any dog age. in fact, these guys i think what's happening is they are going for walks in the park and they are hitting low hanging branches but you see it with cats a lot of times they get into a fight with another cat anti-gets scratched. >> the cornea is just that -- >> it's the clear part that you see in the front. >> as a person that's had some corneal issues i feel for these dogs. both are doing well? >> brutus is good now. actually buttercup is healing from her corneal ulcer and looks good. so she is on the way.
