may have been planning more killings. the victims are being remembered on air outside a roanoke, virginia, tv station. craig boswell reports. >> reporter: the incredible evidence in this shooting have created a new life issue for victims and their families. it's also prompted an enormous outpouring of support for wdbj from the community as the flowers and the cards and the balloons continue to pile up here members of the roanoke, virginia, community came together at wdbj for a "stop the violence" real thursday night. crew alison parker and cameraman adam ward were gunned down on tv thursday. parker's parents want her to be remembered. >> that's our hope and something we will work for till the end of our days. >> reporter: barbara and andy will advocate for tougher gun

laws and need president obama's help. >> at the end of your term you've got nothing to lose, and i don't want to see another alison and adam die like this because nothing gets done. and i challenge you to join me. >> reporter: police say vester flanagan legally bought two pistols from this gun shop. police searched his car and recovered a glock pistol and ammunition, a briefcase with three license plates, a wig, and a black hat. also inside a to-do list. wdbj is considering new procedures before sending crew out to do live shots again. craig boswell, cbs news, roanoke, virginia. at least four people are dead after tropical storm erika slammed into the island of dominica. erika's lashing toward puerto rico after heading to the dominican republic. the storm delivered 15 inches of

rain to dominica triged devastating mudslides and flooding. about 20 people are missing. meteorologist eric fisher of our cbs station wbz says erika is on track to menace florida and southeast. >> we continue to watch erika's progress. already brought flooding rain into the leeward islands. it continues to work its way west as we head through the 234ek9 to 36 hours. tropical storms out for puerto rico, the dominican republic, as well as the turks and caicos and now also parts of the bahamas. here's a look at the track. that could actually really bring down the intensity of the storm. very mountainous terrain, tends to destroy tropical systems if they go right over the top of it but it could reorganize it and takes a packet right up the eastern coast of florida and the southeastern coast of the united states. at that point it could be a hurricane, perhaps a stronger hurricane if it can survive that trip. to the mountainous terrain of hispaniola.

a lot of very warm water here, well up into the 80s. in terms of the steering currents, it's parallel to the coast so it could be several days before it tracks up florida and any of those states. we'll be monitoring erika carefully over the next 48 hours. i'm meteorologist eric fisher for cbs news. this morning hillary clinton is pledging top democrats to pledge their support as vice president bind mulls whether to join the race. biden says he'll make the decision by the end of the summer. a new poll between the two democrats has threatened to shake up the race. hena daniels is here in new york. hena, good morning. >> good morning, allison. several president at candidates including hillary clinton will address the members in minneapolis today. one person who won't be in attendance is joe biden who appears to be stealing the spotlight from the contenders. democratic voters will hear from hillary clinton today at their summer meeting in indianapolis. at a campaign thursday in ohio

she compared her republican rivals to terrorists for their views on women's issues like abortion. >> extreme views about women, we expect that from some of the terrorist groups but it's a little hard to take coming from republicans who want to be the president of the united states. >> reporter: gop candidates including jeb bush and john kasich condemned the remarks and the republican national committee quickly called for clinton to apologize for her inflammatory rhetoric. her terrorist remarks come as a new quinnipiac poll shows she may be in trouble. support for the current front-runner has fallen by ten points in the last month. the same poll also shows joe biden doing better in a matchup against donald trump and clinton even though he hasn't entered a race. >> if joe biden were on the fence, if they were advising him, they'd have to look at these numbers and say everything

else is not looking great and you look terrific. >> it's my hair, i swear. >> reporter: trump's controversial stance on immigration has put him at odds with hispanic voters, which is vital in deciding who wins the election. he may be ready to launch a third white house bid. biden met with the democratic union. he's not sure if his family is emotionally ready for a third white house run given the recent passing of his eldest son beau biden. alison? certainly understandable. hen hena daniels in new york, thank you. on the "cbs moneywatch" investors are hoping for stocks to end ott a high note for the third day this week and a billion people log onto facebook. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. >> we we're waiting for more reports on consumer spending and

personal income in july. stocks on wall street had another day of strong earnings after a report indicated that the u.s. economy expanded much better. over the last three days the dow recouped nearly half of its losses. the dow gained 369 points thursday. the s&p was up 47. the nasdaq rose 115 points. crew oil prices jumped more than 10% on thursday. the benchmark u.s. contract rose $3.96 to settle it more than $42 a barrel. it was the largest gain since march of 2009. landmark ruling from the national labor relations board voted thursday to redefine the employer/employee contracts. it would allow them to work directly with corporate giants like mcdonald's. mcdonald's and its supplier tyson foods are cutting ties with a tennessee farmer. they had a hidden camera that show as what they say a gruesome treatment of chickens.

mcdonald's called the treatment of the chickens completely unacceptable. and a new milestone for facebook. 1 billion people logged onto the site monday. that is the most people who used the social network in a single day. it accounts for one out of every seven people on earth. facebook has 1.5 billion active monthly users. alison. >> it's amazing. why aren't a billion people watching us, jill? >> that's a good question. they need to get on it. >> jill wagner at the new york stock exchange. thank you. hundreds are feared dead after a ship passed with migrants capsized off libya. up to 400 people were on board when it set off from zuwara. libya's coast guard has rescued about 200 people. many of the migrants are from africa and war-torn syria. and european officials are reacting to another migrant tragedy.

police in austria made the grim discovery thursday of an abandoned truck with decomposing bodies. as many as 70 are thought to have suffocated inside. and coming up on the "morning news," returning ten years later. president obama tours new orleans to see the progress made and the work that still needs to be done in the aftermath of katrina.

risings temperatures and increasing winds are fueling the largest wildfire in washington state. the flames in okanagan county have burned more than 450 square miles. 45 homes and almost 50 cabins have been damaged. three firefighters died fighting the fire last week. tomorrow marks ten years since hurricane katrina devastated the gulf coast. the storm killed nearly 2,000 piece and forced a million residents from their homes. president obama went to new orleans thursday to see the
