after 11:00 but it burned all night. we have the latest on what fire investigators have learned. >> reporter: the small piece of blue plastic is all that remains of the trash can where the fire started. it got up into the roof and burned for some time before anyone noticed. the music room, complete with the charred ashes of a piano -- all destroyed. >> it's suspicious and nature and we look at everything. >> i feel like i'm just doing what my first instinct. >> adrian -- was the first to call it in. it seems everyone has a connection to the building. >> i'm speechless. i don't know what to say. it's upsetting. i went here when i was a kid. and i can't believe this

penalty process. the average time from start to finish in the state courts exceeds 20 years. >> reporter: california has 900 people on death row and only 13 have been executed since 1978. the trial begins today for the man charged with beating a man at a 49er game. cell phone video shows two men attacking two other men in a bathroom. one of the men was convicted of assault last month and sentenced to five months in state prison. and now his brother will face a judge. he's pleaded not guilty to a felony assault count. no settlement was reached between tom brady and roger goodell in the so called deflate gate case. the nfl wants confirmation it handled the case appropriately. the judge could announce a ruling in the four game

suspension as early as tomorrow. a 62-year-old hiker is back with her company after surviving a week in the sierra with a broken leg. the story of how she thought to survive. >> we have voice contact with our missing person. >> reporter: the hiker was airlifted to a hospital after surviving nine days alone in the sierra nevada mountains. >> reporter: luckily we were able to find a place to land south of where they found her. we were able to land and walk her over to the hospital. >> reporter: she was rescued after using a history toll alert rescue teams. >> i didn't think i would hear the whistle and then the adrenaline starting running through you. >> it's a huge relief. >> beyond excited. they couldn't stop screaming and crying and yelling amongst themselves and they were all in a car on the way up here.

>> reporter: she was an experienced hiker and went missing from the group august 20th. the thick smoke from a nearby wildfire hampered the search. she called for two days to reach a creek bed. she was weak and exhausted and thankful to be alive. >> reporter: her family said she would like to thank the search and rescue volunteer organization for the incredible efforts to find her. and she would like to thank all of her friends and the people she doesn't know for the outpouring of prayers on her behalf. adam ward's family asked visitors at salem high school to wear the colors of virginia tech and salem. a former coworker gunned downward and alison parker last week. ward's funeral is set for

the numbers are pretty much negative. you have that finger of fog and low clouds that developed in the morning hours and high pressure continues to build in, diverting this area of low pressure. we'll see cooler air masses from the low by midweek. until then, pleasant conditions for the next couple of days and rain free until possibly midweek next week. all right, right there you have hurricane ignacio and at one time all of these were category four hurricanes. and ignacio is diverting from the big island. 460miles just offshore at this particular time. 94degrees at sacramento where it's surge 69. and 70 in monterey bay.
