marriage licenses to gay couples. why her critics are calling her actions hypocritical. and egg mcmuffin lovers rejoice. why fans of the mcdonald's breakfast will no longer have to set their alarm clocks for their fast food fix. captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, september 2nd, 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. through the night law enforcement officials through illinois have been searching for three men suspected of murdering a police officer. when he was found his gun was missing. local officials including six aircraft centered around the village of fox lake. fox lake is located 55 miles around chicago and the area's schools are closed today and jamie lucas is there.

>> reporter: at least six federal, state, and local agencies are on the hunt for three men charged with killing officer. he was shot. described them as two white males and one back man. he was with the fox lake police department for more than three decades and a father of four sons. >> we lost a family member. many residents in here knew him as g.i. joe. >> reporter: a small memorial is growing at the police station as the community mourn as loved and decorated officer. he's 26th officer killed by gunfire this year according to the officer down memorial page. four have been killed in just the last eight day. this past weekend a texas sheriff's deputy was gunned down at a gas station near houston.

but overall law enforcement gunfire deaths are down compared to last year. jamie lucas, cbs news, fox lake, illinois. this morning jittery wall street investors don't know what to expect. u.s. stock futures are higher despite another big selloff yesterday. in the words of one analyst, the market remains fragile. news yesterday that china's manufacturing hit a three-year low sent stocks there into another tail spin. today stocks in asia were down again. china's shanghai composite lost 0.2%. mainland china june, and japan's nikkei closed down 0.4%. hena daniels is at the new york stock exchange with more on that. good morning. >> good morning. driven as they have been by problems in china, stocks here on wall street have started the day sharply lower and never recovered. the major indices closed down about 3%.

the dow jones industrial sank 469 points. the s&p 500 lost 58 points, and the nasdaq composite finish dound 140 points. and it wuchbt just news from china that sent stocks here into the downward spiral. news from the sector slowed last month to its weakest in two yearsed aed to that uncertainty. >> i think the real problem is that now investors in the u.s. are worrying that the u.s. itself is headed toward recession, possibly dragged down by china or of its own accord. >> and concern that china's slowing economy means less demand for oil sent oil prices sharply lower. crude oil fell over four and a half dollars a barrel. it means it's less likely they'll raise the interest rates for first time in nine years. and friday they'll release the

police arrested snuka tuesday at his new jersey home. authorities allege that 32-year-olds ago he beat his then girlfriend nancy argentino to deekt in an allentown motel room following a wwe event. they say his autobiography provided clues. >> in his autobiography in which he talked about his frequent use of alcohol, cocaine, and wrote, quote, in 1983, my life started getting a little crazy, close quote. >> he was charged with involuntary manslaughter and he's being held on $100,000 bail. a pretrial begins for six police officers charged in the death of freddie gray. he suffered fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody in april. brook silva-braga has the latest. >> reporter: there is stepped up security outside a baltimore

courthouse where later today the judge will decide what's next for the six officers facing criminal charges in connection with the fatal death of freddie gray. >> the residents of this city expect their police department to be prepared. >> reporter: the officers won't be in attendance as they decide whether they should be charged separately or the charges dismissed. the defense is also seeking to have the baltimore state's attorney marilyn moseby be removed from the case citing conflicts of interest. gray died in april after suffering a spinal cord injury while riding in a police van. a coroner ruled it a homicide. >> don't let the cops get off. >> reporter: activists are planning to get together outside the courthouse this morning. >> the killers of freddie gray must go to jail and be prosecuted. >> reporter: gray's death sparked weeks of protests which calmed after the adjusters were charged, and some worry any change in the case could reignite violence. >> i believe some people want an excuse to do things. >> reporter: the six officers

>> go want's two-run shot gives them a whip over cleveland. the drama over deflated footballs that began before the super bowl could people reach a conclusion today. a federal judge will make a final determination on whether new england patriots' quarterback tom brady will serve a four-game suspension. judge richard berman said tuesday his decision will come by friday. the patriots play their first regular season game next thursday. and boston is out and los angeles is in. the u.s. olympic committee officially nominated l.a. as its choice to host the 2024 summer games. boston dropped its bid two months ago. los angeles is still vying with parks rome, hamburg, and budapest. meanwhile they're scrapping their logo for the 2020 games. . the decision was made after the

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. well, they're growing in popularity and now you can chalk up a new use for drones. youtube personality darryn clingenburg attached a hook, line, and sinker to his drone and flew it over a pond and, you guessed it, he caught a fish. of course, it was all caught on his cell phone video camera. like any social media star, he took a selfie with his catch.

states. amazon is adding video downloads to its subscribers. amazon will let you download content to watch offline. that's a big change if you're head swrg that doesn't have wi-fi. that's a big change. on wi-fi they don't have streaming and have no plans for offline playbacks. google has a new logo. it's using a typeface making it look simpler and more modern and the colors are softer. google said the change was made because people interact across several devices sometimes all in one day. consumer reports rates the car's worst cars in 2015. for the chrysler 200 consumers report disliked its raspy

a soyuz spacecraft blasted off this morning heading to the international space station. it's carrying a three-man crew including its first dane in space. a cosmonaut will replace sinner sarah brightman who dropped out this year. the crew arrives on friday bringing the number on board to nine for the first time in nearly two years. >> here's another look at this morning's top stories. through the night a massive search continued in northern illinois for three men suspected of fatally shooting a veteran police officer. lieutenant charles gliniewicz was killed while chasing a group of men on foot. the town of fox lake is locked

down. police have even offered to walk residents' dogs. it could be another rough ride for investors today. stocks in asia were down again after yesterday's big selloff. shares on wall street followed along plunging about 3% yesterday. there is buzz surrounding vice president joe biden and his potential run for the white house in 2016. biden says he'll make a decision one way or another later this month. he will be a guest of stephen colbert on the "late show" next week. biden will appear on colbert's third show on thursday, september 10th. in less than a week go colbert makes his late-show debut on september 8th right here on cbs. and before he investigated started colbert is lending his voice to directions using a driving app. colbert's voice will give you directions if you use wave.
