where it's going. throughout the morning we heard they're accepting international tickets for destinations in hungary and some of the migrants are taking them up on that offer. as soon as those doors opened, migrants by the hundreds went flooding in. word spread fast. spilling on to the platforms and packing on to the train in a hope they were headed to germany, austria, anywhere but here. but nobody was telling them anything. bashir wondered why let them in if not to let them go. >> doesn't it feel like they're tricking you? >> they did. that's why we were hesitating to take this train or not. >> hesitating because the migrants fear instead of going to other richer countries they'll be taken to holding camps where they'll be forced to apply for arsylum in hungary. >> what are you going to do? >> i'm not going there. >> on board it was even more chaot ic. the heat and humidity of the

packed train was unbearable. families with young children and babies struggled for air. it was hard to keep the camera lens clear from the condensation. they're penniless, hungry and exhausted. after having spent weeks on the road and more than a week stuck at the station here, the migrants are desperate to board any train that will take them away. like hassam from dara. >> this is my lucky day. but i think it's my lucky day. i believe. >> reporter: it wasn't his lucky day. he decided to get off that train rather than risk it. we're hearing the trains are being stopped outside of budapest and migrants are being ordered off the train from there. where this train is going, we're about to find out. anthony? >> charlie d'agata in budapest, thank you. germany is now expecting 800,000 refugees this year. and they are expecting it is going to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion.

law enforcement overnight swarmed a rural area of northern illinois in the search for the killers of the veteran police lieutenant. this morning police say the tip they received was a hoax. 52-year-old joe gliniewicz was gunned down tuesday while chasing three men acting suspiciously. his widow spoke out at a vigil last night. anna werner is outside the fox lake police department in illinois northwest of chicago. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. what's tough for investigators here is that officer gliniewicz radioed in only the briefest of descriptions of these suspects. two white males and one black male. so investigators are relying on tips from the community. but last night, a woman claims someone tried to carjack her. 11 canine teams and three helicopters with heat-seeking technology responded to a tip of suspicious men in a corn field overnight. dozens of officers urgently combed a wooded area in lake county illinois, five miles

south of fox lake, where the police lieutenant was killed on tuesday. >> several hours were wasted here today. >> reporter: the five-hour search was a dead end. 30-year-old kristen kiefer was lying when she called in the sighting and attempted carja carjacking. >> all it takes is one tip or good lead to break a case wide open. >> reporter: the chief commands the lake county major crimes task force. >> if you have three suspects, they're going to talk to people they know. >> they always talk. >> lieutenant joe gliniewicz was on patrol tuesday when he radioed for backup while in pursuit of three men who were acting suspiciously. >> when you hear a veteran officer like this call out and say he needs a backup, that usually raises flags. >> once they got to the scene, it took responding officers nearly ten minutes to find gliniewicz shot, laying about 50 yards from his squad car. the community has embraced the widow and four sons of the fallen officer. >> joe was my best friend, my

server that housed clinton's private e-mail account. a panel wants to question him. >> donald trump is expected to meet today with the chairman of the republican national committee to discuss signing this loyalty pledge which was just obtained by cbs news. the committee on wednesday sent this document to all 17 republican candidates. it asked them to vow not to mount a third party campaign. donald trump is the only candidate who has made that threat. chip reid is in washington. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is extremely rare for a major political party to ask a candidate to sign a loyalty pledge. it's still not clear if triumph will sign it. the only thing you can predict with certainty with donald trump is that he's unpredictable. >> raise your hand now if you won't make that pledge tonight. mr. trump? >> when asked if he'd rule out a third party run, trump's answer at last month's gop debate was clear. >> you're not going to make the

pledge? >> i will not make the pledge at this time. >> unbelievable! >> but now his own party is making the request, and they want it in writing. on wednesday, the pledge was e-mailed to the 17 republican candidates asking them to endorse the 2016 republican nominee, regardless of who it is. the document also asks them to confirm they would not run as an independent or write-in candidate. the billionaire's resistance to declare his unwavering support has given him leverage in the party. he's at the top of the polls and running independently could make a white house run for the gop very difficult. >> i want to be treated fairly. i want to be treated with respect. >> reporter: trump has repeatedly said he'd promise his devotion if treated well during his bid for the republican nomination. >> if i'm treated fairly and i get a good fair shot at this, and i'm not being sabotaged with all sorts of nonsense and a lot

of phony ads, i would have no interest in doing that whatsoever. >> reporter: over the weekend, trump said he'd prefer to run and win on the republican ticket. >> that would certain lly be th best path to victory. we'll take a decision very soon and i think a lot of people are going to be very happy. >> reporter: in addition to meeting with the gop chair today, trump will also hold a press conference in about an hour in new york. and keep in mind that even if he does sign the loyalty pledge, it is not a legally binding document. there's no guarantee he won't back out later if he feels he's not being treated with respect by the republican party. >> that is true. cbs news political director john dickerson is moderator of "face the nation." >> good morning. >> what do you think trump will do? >> i think he'll probably go for signing the pledge. over the last few weeks he's been going back and forth thinking about it. he likes leverage. he used that word in the debate and has in his conversations. leverage over the party.

basically making sure they don't try to stick tim in a corner or set him to the side. he's always left that idea of an independent run open. people told him he might get some percentage. 5% to 10 percentage points. if he signs this pledge, of those republicans who want to see him say he's serious about the party. so now as we've seen him inch by inch become more of a politician, less of a kind of outsider, this would be a move to try to increase his support within the party. >> doesn't seem to have hurt him so far. >> no, but the problem is always he's done very well, he's broken lots of rules and done better every time people have said breaking a rule would hurt him. it hasn't. he knows that there is a ceiling to his support. his favorability has grown in the latest des moines register poll but there is a portion of the party that says we won't vote for him ever. this is a way that he can perhaps expand his vote by

showing he's a team player. >> let's turn to vice president joe biden. we're waiting to hear what he's going to do. yesterday when speaking at a community college in florida, a lot of people said he sure sounded like a candidate. let's take a listen and get you're thoughts. >> people who aren't willing to risk failing never succeed. >> john dickerson, what do you make of that? >> that certainly could sond like somebody getting ready to jump in or somebody who is using this as a testing phase. all of this adulation is great on its own terms for somebody who could be coming to the end of their career. this is the way democrats have spoken about this. this is a victory lap for a man who has devoted his life to politics, which doesn't necessarily mean he's preparing the way. on the other hand, if he goes out and says that and people say, hey, joe, it sounds like you might want to run and we're all behind you, that could be the thing that inches him more

sea. it's the first time the u.s. military has seen chinese warships in the area. it follows a massive display of force by china's military at a parade in beijing. seth doane is in the chinese capital. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. china will reduce its military by 300,000 troops. that's the big news coming out of this massive military parade in beijing today. it marks 70 years since the japanese surrendered at the end of world war ii. ♪ against the backdrop of the largest military parade in modern china, president xi announced the troop redeteuctio and pledged peace saying the experience of war makes people value peace even more. xi inspected some of the 12,000 troops taking part. a traction of the 2.3 million currently serving in the people's liberation army. china wants to modernize and centralize its forces. defense spending has been

growing by double digits in the last five years. china has been flexing its military muscle, particularly in the south china sea. you can see we are packed in here with media. the world is paying close attention to this parade. and in particular, defense departments around the world are watching which weapons are unveiled. many of them have never been seen before. the df-21d is one of the closest watched. it's a ballistic missile capable of sinking an aircraft carrier in a single strike. in the stands not far from president xi sat a u.s. army veteran. lieutenant jay vineyard. why do you think you are getting such a warm reception? >> because the chinese people have long memories. >> reporter: the 92-year-old had flown supplies into china, a u.s. ally during world war ii. he received a medsal from president xi this week. >> we all felt we made a big contribution to helping china in the war, and then in addition to

after an incident at laguardia airport that now has a tsa offer facing sexual abuse and harassment charges for allegedly gropes a 21-year-old female student from korea in an airport. he told her he was screening her for weapons. he was fired by the tsa. in a statement the agency says it holds its employees to the highest standards. the airport had been refusing for months to release this video citing an ongoing criminal investigation. she has in admitted her role in it. jumping on to the trains. they weren't sure where they were going. they were hoping to get to destinations away from hungry, germany and austria. migrants could get on the trains that were going to destinations within hungry and that's what these people are doing. some of the hungaryians are getting off of the trains as the officers told them to do. the migrants remain on the train. where it's going and what's going to happen to the migrants remain to be seen. >> thank you, charlie. a former aid to hillary clinton reportedly plans to evoke the fifth amendment in response to a congressional. he set up the server that housed clinton's private e-mail account when she was secretary of state. clinton's use of that server shielded some of her e-mail from the congressional inquiries. a panel investigating the 2012 benghazi attacks wants to question him.

irreversibly violates her consciousness. but the critics say if he work frs the government, she must follow the law. rand paul is with us this morning. good morning. good to see you. >> good morning. >> i want to ask you about what's happening in your state and county clerk kim davis. should she be fired or be allowed to keep her job? >> i think we could probably find an inbetween solution where people could have contracts, any consenting dumts can have contracts but that we don't really force people to put their signature or their approval on the contract. you know, notaries notarize contracts all the time. why couldn't you have a note vi doing it. the clerk said she will file the contracts. she just doesn't want to be forced to participate in something she has a religious objection to. ultimately if society is going to change its opinion on what marriage is, i think it would be better through persuasion than through sort of an aggressive

tactic where we federalize everything and force people to do things they don't want to do. ultimately it would be better to let people make their own decisions. >> right now we don't have another option. these are the two choices. do you support what she's doing? >> i don't think we always have to have two choices or that it has to be a binary option. notaries notarize contracts. in fact what's happening is the people who are promoting this change, as they become more aggressive, there is going to be more resistance. some of the states are getting out of the marriage business entirely saying, you want to have a marriage, go somewhere and get people who agree with your definition to give a signature on it. but don't ask those of us who don't agree. ultimately that's what's going to happen. if the people want to change things push too hard, they're going to make things worse. persuasion is a much better way that bullying people into believing what you believe in.

>> what do you make of the request for the r thrks c for candidates to sign a pledge that they won't run as third party candidates. have you receive that and will you or have you signed it? >> we have received it. i haven't signed it. do have some seympathy for the third party because sometimes the two party don't do that well and the third parties provide the pressure for the two parties to be better. but what i don't like the donald trump using the republican party and then perhaps going out at the end when he doesn't receive the nomination. >> do you like the idea of a pledge? will you seen it? >> ross pa roe gave us the first clinton and if trump does this again, she could give us anothe clinton. he ought to make the decision now. in all likelyhood, yes, i will sign the pledge. i haven't discussed it yet.

but we've said in the past i'm not going to run as a third party candidate and i think that's a reasonable pledge to take. >> senator paul, jeb bush and donald trump are having a spirited back and forth we should say by tweet. at one point jeb bush even said that donald trump is out to destroy the republican party. what do you think about that? >> i think that donald trump is a fake. i think he's a fake conservative and really there's not much about him that is conservative. i've been pointing out, with a great deal of emphasis, that the right to private property and that you can't take proift property and gift from one to another. this was a big deal for conservatives. it was in 2005 and we objected to the decision that allowed private property to be transferred from one private property owner to the other. this is something that donald trump uses in his business model. he took a lady's house who had lived in her house for 30 years to make a parking lot. and he used the bully force of government. he was for obamacare.

california's unveiling big plan this morning for a more than $30 million overpass across one of l.a. county's busiest freeways. the bridge is designed for wild animal whosz habitats are shrinking because urban sprawl. washington state reports on its first wide life crossing in june. ben tracy shows us how the largest animal bridge in america could save one of the last big carnivores in the u.s. >> reporter: he's the most famous lion in the world. his name is p-22 and he lives in the shadow of the hollywood sign in los angeles's griffith park. >> if he's anywhere in the area, hopefully i'll get a ping on my receiver. >> reporter: biologist jeff zing works for the national parks service. he uses his radio antenna to track p-22.

three years ago he attached a radio collar to his neck. that was after they discovered the big cat inside the park, a place visited by 10 million people each year. >> we're in the middle of los angeles. how extraordinary is it that a mountain lie john is roaming around here. >> he ended up in this dead end park. it's not ideal. >> reporter: to get there p-22 had to navigate a maze of l.a. freeways. he was boyne in the mountains, somehow crossed the 405, made his way across hollywood hills taking refuge in the park. beth pratt says p-22 got lucky. just this month, another mountain lion, p-32, became at least the 12 lion killed trying

to cross the freeway. >> they get to freeways and more often than not the car wins. >> 15 other mountain lions are being tracked in the area, many tagged as kittens. adult kittens can roam 200 miles to mate but are now stopped by freeways. p-22 has eight square miles to call his own and no one to mate with. >> these freeways are acting as barriers for animals who need to travel. and so we need to help wildlife somehow maneuver them if they're going have a future anywhere. >> reporter: today they released these renders of a proposed crossing. conservation groups are working to raise $10 million to get started. so far no taxpayer dollars are involved. >> it would come through sweeping across the freeway and they would be able to come right up here.

>> the crossing would allow all sorts of wild animals in the urban jupgle to once again roam the entire santa monica eco system. >> is there some sense we owe this to these animals? i me we created this. >> i think we owe it to them to give back their wild spaces. we've taken so much of their han at the. >> do you think this will be a tough sell or do you think you'll be able to get this done? >> there's been an pouring that in my 25 years i've never seen. >> p-22 is now the 122-pound poster boy for the move meant to get the overpass built and he recently made more headlines after strolling into a griffith park neighborhood. he hid underneath a house and then disappeared once everyone left him alone. it was a reminder that p-22 has few places to go unless we bridge the gap for him. >> p-22's story has sort of captured the malk of the world. so i know we're going to get
