a fellow democrat. bernie sanders now leads in new hampshire and is getting closer in iowa. a new poll shows he surged ahead of hillary clinton there for the first time. if the presidential election were held today, sanders would beat clinton 41% to 32%. if vice president joe biden was in the state the same survey shows him in third place with 16%. in iowa, clinton's 24-point lead

in july has been cut more than half to just 11. clinton has been dogged by constant questions about her private e-mail server while she was secretary of state. she won the 2008 new hampshire campaign and was there on saturday. >> i welcome that. >> reporter: sanders has spent the last several days in campaigning in iowa and said saturday -- >> i think the secretary's people are getting very nervous that the campaign is bringing forth. >> reporter: clinton has more events in iowa today. vice presidented mien is still mulling over whether he wants to join the race. his aides say he'll make a decision by month's end. now the debate is set for a little over a month away. on the republican side they it will begin

israel is too small. at the border he said we see what happens when countries lose control of their borders. israel has already built a fence along its border with egypt. the kentucky clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples is appeals a judge's order that landed her behind bars. kim davis defied a court order to issue licenses and was sent to jail last thursday. as jericka duncan reports her lawyers say she doesn't belong there. >> getting her out of jail is a priority for because she doesn't belong there. >> reporter: roger ganim is one of the attorneys representing kim davis. they're hoping to get the rowan county clerk out of jail soon. >> we hope that the first step in the subsequent appeals steps we take we'll be able to get a

>> i respect the fact that this lady doesn't agree but she's also a government employee. she's not running a church. funeral services are held today for the illinois police officer killed last week. lieutenant joe gliniewicz was killed tuesday as he was pursuing a group of men. before he died he described three suspects, but so far there have been no arrests. and police in las vegas are questioning a suspect who they say walked up to a police cruiser and opened fire. two officers were stopped at traffic signal yesterday when the man opened fire. one officer was shot in the hand. officials say police have been riding in pairs since another officer was shot friday. >> since the last officer-involved shooting where we had an officer shot in the line of duty, the sheriff mandated that it was two men to a car, two officers to a car. >> reporter: the suspect in sunday's attack ran away but quickly surrendered.

forecast in some cs ar here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. thousands of university of kentucky fans were ready to watch football saturday when something else caught their eye. a small drone was flying over the stadium when it crashed shortly before kickoff. no one was hurt when the remote controlled aircraft came down. police say a kentucky student was flying the drone from outside the stadium. >> they had seen it in flight before it crashed so they were able to talk and confront the owner about what had happened. it was inappropriate and should not have been there. they'll get together to determine what steps should be taken next. >> it's the second incident in a week. thursday a drone came down at some empty seats at the u.s. open. tom brady says he's ready to

for stephen colbert last december. he was sung off the stage of his comedy central show "t khe "colbert report"" by dozens of his former guests. now he's premiering for tomorrow's big late show stephen colbert. suzanne marques spoke with him. >> reporter: stephen colbert has been in everyone's living rooms for almost two decades. in 2005 that role lead to the spin-off show the "colbert report." his name is in lights again as he prepares to take over as host of the "late show." i recently sat down with colbert in los angeles. so what drives you? what motivates you? >> anything dumb to do. i like talking about things happening in the news, and one of the thing about doing a
