i'm sorry the heat is here to stay. >> i'm michelle griego. >> i'm frank mallicoat. let's check in with roberta gonzales who is live with more. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon frank and michelle. you better believe on one of the hottest days of the years we're going to take it outside. trust me on this one, it's even hot in the city by the bay. the city of san francisco right now reports 84 degrees. now this is widespread heat. inland livermore is reporting 95 degrees. around the peninsula it's 87 degrees in redwood city. we have fremont checking in at 85 degrees, oakland at 80. here's what you need to know. it is the second spare the air day of the week, where we have a lot of smog being trapped very close to the surface. it is the second consecutive heat advisory in effect this time encompassing all 7 million people that live here in the bay area. you better believe tomorrow will be the third straight day with the heat advisory. temperatures today anywhere from 90 at the coast to 106 in

livermore, but guess what, it's going to be even hotter on thursday and i'll talk about those temperatures coming up shortly in this newscast. >> thanks roberta. school is already out today for some south bay students due to look of air-conditioning at the campbell area school district. it's letting students leave early and on thursday the school says they're allowing the noon release time only as a precaution, outdoor activities were also banned. >> for today and tomorrow due to the heat advisory, all of our students are going to be on our what do we call it, our regular minimum day schedule. they'll still attend all of their classes and get a full day of instruction. it will just be on a minimum schedule. >> the district has yet to decide whether it will shorten the school day on friday. new at noon, today is the day apple fans have been waiting for. kpix reporter anne makovec is live in san francisco with more on big product reveals. ann. >> you know, the event is still

going on. nothing really ground breaking per se was announced today, but a lot of improvement on apple's current gadgets. boy, the eyes of the tech world on the bill graham auditorium today. normally apple holds this event at the moscone center. let's take a look at the improvements to the iphone, the iphone 6. they unveiled the 6s. it has basically a faster processor, some new 3d touch technology. they call it a hardware, software integration, and also, yeah as mentioned has a faster processor. when they announced the ipad pro tim cook called it the biggest news in ipad since the ipad ladies and gentlemen. it's larger than the previous version with more memory

since a fiery blast leveled an entire neighborhood. today's anniversary is about remembering the eight people who lost their live, 66 others were injured in that 2010 blast. san bruno mayor says the city is working hard to rebuild the neighborhood. progress is slow because there was so much damage. >> we have to completely rebuild our infrastructure, all new water lines, sewer lines, cable tvs, street scapes and we have more to do. >> the mayor says his city will continue to fight for justice saying the blast was criminal. pg&e faces 28 criminal charges in relation to that explosion. earlier this week it filed motions to dismiss those charges. multiple investigations point the blame at pg&e saying the company diverted funds meant for pipeline safety. federal prosecutors are seeking a $1 billion fine if pg&e is convicted on those charges. it was a close call at the main airport in las vegas when a plane's engine caught fire.

>> dozens of others. >> how quickly he responded and his crew as well, everybody. >> 170 people were on board at the time. passengers exited the burning plane on emergency slides. at least 14 people were injured during the evacuation. federal investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. as the wildfire in fresno counties continues to explode, more residents have been warned to be ready to evacuate at any moment. you can see heavy concentration. the smoke hitting communities near the so-called rough fire. it's burned 97,000 acres in the sierra and sequoia national forest. dozens have already evacuated. a firefighter was injured while battling a wildfire in tuolumne county. fires burned 100 acres about 20 miles northeast of sonora. it's already destroyed a home and two outbuildings. firefighters have that blaze 20% contained. in san jose authorities

have arrested two people suspected of starting brush fires late last night. at least four fires spotted on the southbound side of interstate 280 near state route 17, i-280 lanes were closed around 10:30 p.m. while firefighters took control. nobody was injured. a bicyclist accused of beating a truckdriver will be sentenced today in san rafael. witnesses say jeffrey smock assaulted 41-year-old roman lascowski after he clipped his wife. he used gps data to argue the driver attacked his client as he tried to get a license plate number. the three san bernardino deputies facing assault charges after they were seen on live tv beating a man have pleaded not guilty. a man had led police on a chase back in april and tried to escape on a stolen horse. video from a news helicopter captured the victim being kicked and punched several times. the deputies are on paid leave.

they face three years in county jail if convicted. that county clerk in kentucky who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples could be back at work on friday. kim davis emerged from jail yesterday before thousands of supporters at a big rally including ted cruz and mike huckabee. the federal judge released davis and warned her not to interfere with the distribution of marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples. if you're driving alone and you want to save some time, think twice about sneaking on to the hov lane. an average of 41% of drivers on santa clara county's expressways are cheating in the car pool lane. that's according to officials. if you're caught it isn't chip cheap. the ticket is $490.

i'm going to tell you how you can see them. first we want to check this out, the current temperatures right here in the bay area including justin herman plaza holding steady at 84 degrees. otherwise, it's hot inland. it's now 95 degrees in livermore. humidity is down to about 10%. it is now 87 degrees in redwood city. we're talking about mid-80s around the fremont area as well. i want to share with you this. it's our eastern pacific satellite imagery, and what you're looking at is a huge lair of low clouds. i was like please move onshore. it's not. it's just teasing us. it's going to hang there until about saturday. we are picking up a little bit of a sea breeze this afternoon. let's pull out, take a look at our eastern pacific satellite. we still have that huge bubble of high pressure. it's encompassing northern california. heat advisory remains in effect for today until 7:00 tonight. goes back into effect tomorrow as well. our sun will go down tonight at 7:27 and when that happens, we will have realized temperatures
