news" for thursday, september 10th, 2015. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning in arizona, the fbi, federal and local agencies are looking at a string of shootings targeting several motorists. they're looking for a possible shooter. at least ten vehicles have been hit in the past two weeks. don champion has the latest. >> reporter: state, federal, and local police are looking for the person who's targeting motorists along the main freeway through phoenix. >> why would somebody shoot at anybody at all, especially to shoot at some innocent person. mine that's just insane. >> reporter: drivers who use interstate 10 very very nervous. >> very scary, very horrible. >> reporter: the incidents started on august 29th. the latest happened wednesday when the passenger side of this pickup truck was shattered. the arizona didn't of public

safety confirms several vehicles were hit by bullets and three were hit by projectiles. law enforcement is ramping up patrols on the ground and in the air >> it's becoming a huge safety issue at this point, so we want to get it stopped. >> reporter: so far there have not been any serious injuries. >> it's just a matter of time if this bash continues that we have tragedy on our roadways. >> reporter: arizona is calling on michigan, colorado, and kansas for help with their investigation. each of those states has dealt with similar situations over the past year. drivers are being urged to stay vigilant. don champion, cbs news. new evacuations in fresno, california, where a heat wave continues and wildfires spread. the fire -- this fire was sparked by lightning on july 31st. it was -- it has now burned more than 160 square miles and is only 31% contained. residents were told to get ready to get out. high temperatures are expected

again today. and tropical storm henri has formed in the atlantic. henri has sustained winds at 40 miles an hour and located about 250 miles southeast of bermuda. the storm is expected to pass well east of bermuda later today and currently poses no threat to land. for the second straight day, eastern japan is being hit by heavy rains that are causing devastating floods. the rain and fast moving floodwaters followed a tropical storm that swamped an area north of tokyo. stranded residents waited to be rescued. officials say they cannot keep up. houses and cars were swept away by overflowing rivers, and at least one person is missing. >> in las vegas federal aviation investigators still don't know what caused the engine of a british airway plane to burst into flames. it had started on its way to london tuesday when flames started shooting out of the left engine.

the pilots slammed on the brakes. passengers used the inflatable slides to escape. aviation experts say the pilots acted quickly. >> clearly the pilots displayed tremendous professionalism. by making decision to abort this takeoff many lives were possibly saved. >> there were 157 passengers and 13 crew on board. 27 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. and the partial collapse of an old hangar at newark liberty airport is under investigation. the hangar was being demolished when it started to cave in yesterday. nine workers were inside the building. four sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. jeb bush, lindsey graham, rick perry, and scott walker, they've all taken jabs at donald trump and see him do nothing but distance himself from the polls. this morning trump is taking heat from two other presidential contenders who have been on the rise. >> if anybody can show me how you can actually round up these

people who aren't necessarily going to be cooperative and how that's not going to jam up the court system and cost enormous amounts of money -- >> dr. ben carson taking aim at donald trump on his signature issue immigration at an california event wednesday night, carson criticizing trum oop's proposal of mass deportation of illegal immigrants, but it's the retired neurosurge neurosurgeon's attack on trump's faith that could sting the most. >> i don't in any way deny my faith in god. that's a very big part of who i am. humility and fear of the lord. i don't get that impression with him. >> carson has seen his poll numbers rise in iowa on the strength of support from evangelical voters. predictably trump responded on twitter, writing, wow, i'm ahead of the field with evangelicals.

i'm so proud of this. and virtually every other group, and it was ben carson who took a swipe at me. but it was trump who took a swipe in a "rolling stole" vi o video. he criticized carly fiorina's physical appearance. when she appeared on television trump is quoted as saying, look at that face? can anyone vote for that? can you imagine that? the face of our next president? trump touchdown off a firestorm last month when he launched out at megyn kelly. he was angered about her remarks. she riri responded back. >> i'm not going to spend a single second wondering what donald trump means but maybe, maybe i'm getting under his skin a little bit because i'm climbing in the polls. >> there was less discord when trump and ted cruz co-headlined

a tea party rally outside the capitol building. >> never, ever, ever in my life have i seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with iran. >> it is my hope and prayer that every one of those senate democrats reconsiders. >> congressional republicans are trying to pass legislation aimed at overriding the iran deal, but president obama appears to have enough support in the senate to sustain a veto. on wednesday democratic candidate hillary clinton spoke about the deal saying she would not hesitate to use military force if iran develop as nuclear weapon. well, the former aide to hillary clinton who helped her set up her controversial private e-mail account is scheduled to appear on capitol hill today, but brian pagliano isn't expected to say much about benghazi other than impose his

"national geographic" announced an expanded partnership with rupert murdoch's 20th century fox. in exchange for $25 million knox will control the "national geographic"'s magazines, maps,
