a wild chase tgh a wild chase through the crowded streets of los angeles thursday. a carjacking suspect led police on a pursuit through side streets and highways, the suspect hitting at least one other car. the chase ended when cops ran the suspect's car, but that's when the situation became even more dangerous. the armed man ran into a packed restaurant where the ordeal came to a deadly conclusion. erica nochlin of our los angeles station kcbs reports. >> reporter: as customers and employees of chris' & pitt's barbecue ran out of the restaurant with their hands on their heads, their terror was apparent. this woman searched for her family and described a scene inside the restaurant she'll never forget. >> we were eating dinner and i

just hear a man screaming get down, get down. and then he yelled out all women and babies get out, and i ran out with my grandchildren. >> reporter: she said the man asked for medicine. >> he pointed a gun right at me. he said, where's the water, where's the water. >> reporter: other employees and customers described their fear. >> they told their wives to get down. pretty much i ran out the back door. i was worried my mom was still in there. >> i saw the gun and said, oh, no, don't shoot me, please. >> i walked out of the bathroom with my hands up and he yelled get out. >> reporter: eventually the deputies shot the gunman. an update from investigators that at least four hostages were held against their will before the deputies moved in. no one else was hit by gunfire. for cbs news, erica nochlin, downie, california.

police are investigating the deaths of five family members in minnesota in an parent murder/suicide. officers went to the lakeside home in minnie tonka west of minneapolis after no one was seen or heard from in days. three of the dead are children. police did not release details on how the family members died. >> there's no words to describe it. i've been a cop for 32 years, and they say an event like this, an entire family, as they say, a tragedy. >> police said the request to check on the family came from a co-worker of the father. a former police officer michael slager remains behind bars today. a judge reached no decision at a bond hearing thursday for the ex-officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man at a traffic stop. the judge wants the to review information presented during the hearing. he did not say when he would rule on bail for slager, who is charged with murder in the april 4th shooting death of walter scott.
