>> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> it has all of silicon valley buzzing. the prime minister of india is in town. i'm juliette goodrh. the prime minister will only be here for the weekend, but emily turner tells us there is hope the quick visit will be the start of a long term partnership. >> reporter: the prime minister is speaking here tomorrow night in front of a crowd of 18,000 people. 50,000 people applied just to get in. one of the reasons he is so popular is his message. it is all about tech. the indian prime minister's visit to the bay area included a dinner with more than 400 of

the top executives in tech. >> it is important to understand the importance of silicon valley and how much of a role it can can play. this is a moment we are witnessing history getting created. >> reporter: which is why the prime minister is showing faith in silicon valley. he is here to promote his high- tech version of india's future. also the possibility of jobs and partnership. tomorrow, governor brown will join that discussion. this is the first epicenter of innovation. india is not that far behind. they have incredible talent. they are a major trading partner as well. some of the best engineers where the world. >> reporter: his tour has not been received well by everyone. an indian american civil rights group bought billboards to talk about his issues with civil

rights. >> the largest city in northern california, a couple hundred thousand citizens in san jose are directly involved in high- tech. san jose state produces more engineers than all of the other regional universities combined. and so, it is fitting that he is right here in downtown san jose. >> reporter: for those who didn't get in tomorrow, there will be a festival and a jumbo screen set up outside. emily turner, kpix5 news. the governor's meeting with the prime minister tomorrow will include a discussion on cl pg&e is trying to figure out what caused a transformer explosion that injured two people in san francisco. two people were hurt when debris went flying. one was knocked unconscious. the other suffered minor burns. about 4,000 people lost power. it took pg&e crews all day to restore service. just a few hours ago, a raccoon knocked out power to another 5,000 customers in the

inner sunset when it tripped a high voltage line at 17th and laughton. new at 11:00, an ex-uc berkeley is accused of trying to conceal a camera in a campus bathroom. joseph barber is accused of filming thousands of women over the course of several days. he also put out of order signs on another restroom to steer more women toward his camera. a university staffer discovered the advice deviced as a bogus electrical outlet. police in the south bay are looking for the burglars that stole a most precious possession. two teenagers stole into her saratoga home and stole a mahogany box from this table. it contained her late husband's

ashes, death certificate and several coins. the 83-year-old homeowner says she will not press charges if the box is safely returned. an oakland photographer has one of her stolen cameras back tonight. but her life's work is still missing. someone broke into jennifer little's home on wednesday, stealing eight cameras and 21 hard drives. the drives have about 70,000 pictures on them spans her entire professional career. jennifer says she found one of her cameras and four lenses at the oakland coliseum flea market today. but what she really wants back are those drives. an unusual protest that started on the streets of oakland rolled all the way to wine country today. they call it the wine soul train. it was actually a brightly colored bus that took people on a tour of the winery. it is in response of the incident aboard the napa valley

wine train last month. these people got the book after officials said they were laughing too loudly and disturbing the other passengers. the wine train ceo later apologized to the women and offered them another trip for free. >> we heard about the disaster with the other black women that were asked to get off the train. and we thought that was just horrible. we are trying to send a message that, you know, if you do things like that, maybe you won't get the support needed to continue your business. >> latinos an african-americans own just a handful of the nearly 500 wineries in the region. two weeks after the valley fire forced them out, the residents of cobb are finally going home tonight. all traffic restrictions for the area were lifted this afternoon. cobb is where the fire first broke out on september 12. tonight, the 76,000-acre fire is almost fully contained but close to 2,000 structures have been destroyed. it was a historic day in the city of brotherly love.

pope francis arrived in philadelphia this morning where he presided over mass at the cathedral basilica of saint paul. tens of thousands were there. and so was cbs reporter marlie hall. the pope talked about a range of issues tonight. what stood out the most? >> reporter: well, the issue that stood out the most and the issue that the pope talked about the most is the issues of families and we saw that clearly tonight when he hosted a party on the parkway for all of &f&the faithful. thunderous applause erupted when pope francis took the stage at the festival of families in philadelphia. actor mark wahlburg was the host. >> father, welcome to philadelphia. >> reporter: aretha franklin serenaded the pope with amazing grace. the 78-year-old catholic leader shared his belief on the importance of family. >> the most beautiful thing that god did says the bible, was the family. >> reporter: earlier, the pope smiled and delighted the crowds waiting to see the papal motorcade drive by in philadelphia. as he often does, the holy father kissed baby after baby. >> he is an unstoppable force of human kindness. >> reporter: at independence hall, pope francis left a mexican family's five foot cross, blessed the cross. then he delivered a message on the same place abraham lincoln did. >> you are also called to be

responsible citizens. >> reporter: now, pope francis will hold the main event tomorrow. he will lead a mass right here on the parkway for an estimated 1 million people. juliette? >> marlie hall, thank you. well the pope will also visit a prison tomorrow before departing for rome. maybe he will see this guy there. the man in cuffs allegedly tried to run up to the pope at the festival of families today. security quickly stopped him and led him away. witnesses say the man had a backpack with him and a sign that said make me priest, i love you. amen. heads are spins after john boehner dropped a bomb shell. the republican is resigning after what has been a turbulent tenure. he talked about what need to happen after he is gone.

>> people in one san francisco neighborhood are sick and tired of hungry coyotes going after their pets. tonight, they have called in the coyote whisperer to help and kpix5's mark kelly shows us her simple and humane plan of attack that seem to be working already. >> reporter: engleside heights is a lush san francisco subdivision. the type of place where coyotes like to roam. >> i have seen the coyotes three times myself. >> i heard them during the night once. like, you know, yipping around barking. it was quite disconcerting actually. >> in fact, just this week, at

pine lake and stern grove, a coyote killed a seven pound dog. >> reporter: fed up, they hired mary polieri to get rid of the coyotes and today, she gave them an update on your progress. >> have you been successful in diverting them? >> yes, they are responding to the placards. >> reporter: she is talking about these placards. they look like everyday menu boards. but when mary sets them out, the placards confuse the coyotes and throw them off their usual roaming path. >> they will do the same thing over and over again. until the population disperses. >> reporter: they appear to be working. the red dot shows sightings from weeks ago. but, check this out. the green dots are recent sightings. all clustered outside the neighborhood. >> that mikes me feel better. >> reporter: even with improvement, experts say

everyone should keep expectations realistic. >> you will see coyotes from time to time, but not as frequently in the past. >> reporter: if you find yourself face to face with one, your best bet is to stop, make a loud noise, and walk away slowly. mark kelly, kpix5. we have learned a south bay teen is being kept alive tonight so that his organs can be donated. we first told you about lucas angelo earlier this week. he was struck by a car after school on wednesday. a family spokeswoman says he was declared brain dead last night. police say it appears that lucas ran out in front of the car that hit him. right now, the driver is not facing any charges. in southern california, one man is under arrest in connection to a violent shooting spree that has left two people dead and two others injured. two random shootings were reported within a mile of each other. they happened this morning in the city of banning. 20 miles west of palm springs. one of the surviving victims

told police the suspect got away in a white suv. a lead that helped officers pin down the suspect. at this point, the motive remains unclear. on california pot farms, illegal workers will risk it all for fast money. but what happens when the money runs out and the boss won't quit? allen martin with the story you will see only on 5. >> reporter: cal fire's base here in humboldt county is in the middle of nowhere. so when workers of a nearby pot farm showed up, the chief knew something was up. >> just to have somebody walk up to the base doesn't normally happen. >> reporter: they wanted to use the phone, but couldn't say why. the next day, one of the men staggered back bleeding and terrified. it was fernando lopez, a labor worker from guatemala. he said he had just been shot in the face by his boss on the

pot farm. turns out he was the lucky one. he survived. his coworker did not. assistant u.s. attorneys william francen and kimberly hopkins prosecuted the case. the victim's boss, michael wild owned a massive pot farm and hired the men to help him work it. >> things were going well. they were living in a travel trailer on one of the sites. michael was bringing them food. they did their work. woke up early. watered the plants. everything seemed to be fine. >> reporter: but at some point, michael ran out of money. >> he didn't have diesel to fuel his cars. and at that point, he took the keys away from the workers and wanted them to water the plants by hand. >> reporter: hauling water to more than 1500 plants on four distant sites. well, the workers wanted out. instead, michael took away their phones and guns. then, lay in wait for them outside their trailer and shot

them. fernando got away. but michael tracked roberto down a steep hillside and finished him off. >> he came up behind him and shot him in the back of the head execution style. >> the pressure of trying to get the grow to the point of making money, hanging onto the property, and all of these investments, it looks like all of that culminated in him doing the one thing he thought that he could or should do which was to take out the workers. >> all of that is true. all of that is true. >> reporter: but michael wild's attorney says there is a back story. >> just using lay terms, he snapped. >> reporter: he says his client felt threatened. >> he believed strongly, they were capable of violence. he believed strongly they had a gun. he believed strongly and i share his belief, that he saw a gun. >> reporter: but the jurors didn't buy it. forensic evidence proved the workers were not harmed.

the judge sentenced michael to life in prison. back here in humboldt county, michael's 800 acres are under new ownership, but the crop remains the same. they hope this will be a warning to the hundreds of migrant workers coming to work on illegal marijuana grows in the emerald triangle. >> it is hard to find bodies out in the woods of humboldt county. >> reporter: allen martin, kpix5. >> none of the witnesses or survivors were willing to talk to us. michael wild is appealing his life sentence with a different attorney. a golden opportunity for bay area football fans. the bay mobile exhibit pulled into the pacifica fog fest today. all eight superbowl trophies were on display. the exhibit is making stops all over the bay area as part of the buildup to superbowl 50 at levi stadium. our paul deanno is at the fog

fest today. he has a look at your weekend forecast from the kpix5 mobile weather lab. >> reporter: the one thing everybody had in the bay area today was sunshine, but not everybody had heat. there was a 30 to 35-degree temperature spread throughout the bay area today. depending on whether you were close to the coastline. you were likely in the 90s . look at these maps. 94 for a high today in livermore with sunshine. the same sunshine in san francisco. but a high of only 65. and pacifica officially only had a high of 62. san jose, your high today, 83. napa, 84 degrees. good sleepingwet tore night. lows in the mid to upper 50s for san rafael. oakland, concord, pacifica. a little chilly in the north bay. could see some isolated 40s in the north bay. santa rosa checking in tonight. 50 degrees. pacifica fog fest. all eight bay area superbowl trophies will be in pacifica once again tomorrow. we will see some morning fog for fog fest. but a lot of blue sky in the
