chopper 5 over the mission district just before 10:00 this morning. a call came in for a suspicious odor in a building on valencia near 26th street. 120 people evacuated from the building. the it's not clear in fact situation -- 120 people evacuated from the building. salvation army is in the area. it's not clear if the situation has evacuated them, as well. a short time ago, the sheriff's department released a photo of a third person they want to talk to in the killing of steve carter. he was found shot to death monday night on a trail west of fairfax not far from sir francis drake boulevard. dozens of investigators have been searching for clues in the area. the sheriff's department hopes surveillance camera will generate more leads. the two men and a woman are considered persons of interest in the case. investigators believe they may know something about the homicide. >> that is why we have a strong

interest in talking to them see what information they may have to share. >> carter was a resident of middletown in lake county. he was several gunshot wounds. his car is missing. his dog was found wounded and is expected to recover. carter' wife is battling breast cancer and has a "go fund me" page. she raised more than $20,000 over the last two months but needs more help now with her husband's death. to donate, head to our website, cbssf.com for a link. new at noon the search is over for a missing boater at lake del valle. a fisherman discovered the body of 31-year-old man who disappeared after boating what friends last friday. search-and-rescue teams from the alameda county livermore and the east bay regional park district joined forces to locate the man. the case is under investigation. berkeley police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. this morning, police arrested 24-year-old anthony durant of

berkeley. they believe he shot and killed the victim last night at 8:30 near russell and california streets. the victim is identified as 24- year-old christian shepherd from stockton. police believe they new each other. menlo park library is the latest to close with bedbugs. visiters were turned away this morning after officials discovered bedbugs in a seating area. staff removed the affected chair but won't re-open until pest control cleared the area. library patrons are concerned about this growing trend. >> i'm wondering why -- i thought it was an isolated incident but every day it seems that there's another library that has them. >> menlo park is the third library on the peninsula to shut its doors over bedbug concerns in recent weeks. plying are trying to solve the case of a beating death in san francisco. they hope surveillance footage will generate some leads. 23-year-old audrey carey of montreal was in golden gate park part of a backpacking trip. her body was found in the park saturday morning.

kiet do has the details of their next step.>> reporter: good morning. volkswagen says if all goes as planned then the recall will begin in january and then all 11 million affected vehicles should be fixed by the end of next year. in most cases, it's a software update. but some cars could be getting new injectors or catalyzers. temporary workshops may have to be set up for the complex cases. with all the various models, vw has to come up with thousands of fixes and they set aside $7 billion to handle the recall and will likely face steep fines from the epa for rig the diesel engines to trick smog detectors and allow those vehicles to emit pollution 10 to 40 times the legal limit. u.s. dealers were stunned with a stop sale order of all the affected vehicles. >> there's been a group of customers that's been concerned about, you know, feeling like they have been duped through the process. and, you know, there's a lot of emotion when something like this of this magnitude happens. and i think at the stage of the game that we're at now is most

school. graffiti surfaced over the students at a kentucky college will be out of class this week because of a threat to school. graffiti surfaced over the weekend at eastern kentucky university, with the message kill all by 10/8/15. police are taking caution and boosting the presence around the campus. the threat comes in the wake of a deadly shooting last week at an oregon community college. and republican presidential candidate ben carson is on the defense today after remarks he made about last week's oregon shooting. in an interview with cbs, carson stated that if he were faced with a shooter situation, he would rush the gunman. his comments suggests the

hit by a ship. the marine mammal center says this was the 8th report of a stranded whale this year in the area. more evacuations in south carolina with more flooding. residents in columbia are forced to leave home as crews work to stabilize the beaver dam. days of torrential rains have caused rivers to overflow. national guard troops are using sandbags to help hold back the rising waters. and a number of rivers near the coast is still threatening to wipe out dams. at least 11 have failed. the coast guard is continuing its search today for a u.s. cargo ship that sank in the bahamas. those helping with the search are hoping to get their hands on the voyage data recorder today to find out details about the final hours 33 people including 28 americans were on board. it sank during hurricane joaquin. crews found a survival suit and life jacket from the el faro in the area. snuck outside for a quick

and we can see nicely from -- it is the lawrence hall of science located at the university of california in berkeley. blue skies, bright sunshine, warmer today away from the bay. and we have some drier air mass that's working its way this way but gosh, i want to point your attention to this right here. leading edge of a little bit of precipitation into the pacific northwest. this is a huge cloud shield. this is a plume of moisture that streams all the way to the south of the hawaiian islands. it's all associated with hurricane oho. and this hurricane is already breaking some records because it's, um, usually not very common that we see hurricanes develop this late in the hurricane season. and especially in that part of the central pacific. now, right now it looks like it's going to intensify more before it shears off all over the next couple of days and loses its intensity. but computer models want to take some of the moisture into the pacific northwest with gusty winds into western british columbia. we are under the influence of high pressure diverting cloud cover and rain showers to the

north of us. we'll keep an eye on that. it could impact our surf over the weekend. high pressure continues to strengthen and as it does so temperatures are going up. 80s in throughout the central valley. 72 in the high sierra where currently it's 66 degrees. sundown at 6:43, shaving off 2 minutes and 23 seconds of sunlight than yesterday. 70s and 80s up to 86 degrees our outside number today. that will be to the east of brentwood and to the south in gilroy. west winds 45 to 10. there's your thursday through saturday climbing into the 90s. and i got to tell you that it's a benign weather pattern each and every day. temperatures, yeah, pretty much stable. >> you don't have to do a lot of work. >> not really. did you see that hurricane out there? >> yeah. >> i know, i know. >> we know you're working hard. >> where's your blog? >> oh-oh! >> while they fight, let's look at the big board right now.
