griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. san francisco police releasing some new information about these linked crimes a short time ago. kpix 5's anne makovec has the latest live from san francisco. >> reporter: now they are checking to see if these three murder suspects might end up being accused of other murders here in northern california. in the meantime, these three people are still in jail waiting to be extradited back to the bay area to face charges in marin and san francisco. these three murder suspect are now in jail in portland, oregon accused in two bay area killings over the past week. police say sean angold, morrison lampley and lila allgood killed 23-year-old audrey carey in golden gate park. her body was found there on saturday. she is from quebec canada and was visiting san francisco on her first solo backpacking trip. >> there was blunt-force trauma to the body and later

discovered that it was in fact a gunshot wound. >> reporter: five days later police say some of audrey's belongings were found in a car driven by the three murder suspects. they made it to a soup kitchen in portland, oregon where they were arrested first for the murder of this man, steve carter. he was found shot along with his dog on monday two days after audrey's death and 20 miles to the north in the loma alta open space preserve near fairfax. >> it's my opinion that this was a courtroom of opportunity as opposed to one that was directed at that individual. >> reporter: officers there say they saw the three suspects gassing up carter's car in this surveillance video before they drove north to oregon. officers tracked them down using gps. and police are planning on releasing a lot more details about these murders this afternoon. of course, we'll have it for you on kpix 5 at 5:00 and 6:00. right now live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. a scare for bart riders

coming from the macarthur bart station this morning. this was the view from chopper 5 as one of the train car's brakes got stuck creating smoke on the rails. people were evacuated and transported on to another train to check out the brakes. there were no major disruptions to bart. spencer stone who helped stop a terror attack on a french train in august only to be stabbed outside a bar in sacramento has been upgraded to fair condition. surveillance video shows stone from the air force in a white short appearing to fend off several men by himself and for a time he was unaware that he had been stabbed. a witness at the liquor store across the street saw it happen. >> he didn't look hurt at the time. he was walking with his arms up and how you are after you get in a fight. i saw the back of his shirt with a big red mark and there was another hike random person walk by and i think you got stabbed. >> the woman got in a car left with the suspect.

stone is now recovering at uc- davis medical center with three wounds to his torso in santa clara county the search is on for a fugitive who escaped from bail agents as they were about to book him into the main jail. san jose police lee released this photo of 29-year-old david nghounoi yesterday. he escaped wednesday while still in handcuffs. he has felony warrants for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. the escape prompted a massive search that included police dogs and a s.w.a.t. team which so far has turned up nothing. and investigators still need help finding an oakland man suspected of crashing a car during a police chase then leaving his injured 6-year-old daughter behind. san leandro police initially pursued the car 29-year-old kelvin govan was driving yesterday believing it might be connected to a robbery. they say govan then ran away after the car crashed on 85th avenue in oakland. police found the girl in the back seat. she is now in the hospital and is expected to recover. an overnight shooting on the campus of northern arizona university in flagstaff has

left a stay tuned dead and three others hurt. police say they have the gunman in custody. brian webb has the story. >> this is not going to be a normal day at nau. our hearts are heavy. >> reporter: students consoled each other on the campus of northern arizona university after a shooting left at least one student dead and three others injured. the shooting occurred overnight on the school's flagstaff campus. police say it started as a confrontation between two groups of students. >> the confrontation turned physical and one of our students, steven jones, 8 years old, produced a handgun and he shot four of our other students. >> reporter: one student died, three others were taken to the hospital with gunshots wounds. the gunman was arrested. >> he stopped his action with his handgun and everything calmed down for a few minutes. as our officer arrived he was able to take him into custody. >> it kind of like makes you forget about all the little

things, you know? there's like this situation, this -- it really puts life into perspective and it's just like i don't know, it's just kind of all shocking. >> reporter: police were waiting until sunrise to process the scene. so far, there's no word on what spark the argument. brian webb for cbs news. less than a half-hour ago, reports of yet another shooting on a college campus. one person was killed and another is injured at texas southern university. houston police say they have a possible suspect detained. and meanwhile this afternoon president obama will visit privately with the families of the victims of the umpqua community college shooting. the president has called for stricter gun control laws after the shootings. gun right advocates are expected to protest the president's visit today. a man killed nine people and wounded nine others last week before killing himself in roseburg, oregon. and tonight the president will fly down here to san francisco to take part in two democratic fundraisers. first up will be a reception at a private home and tomorrow morning, he will be at the

warfield theater for an event featuring rap performer kanye west. two men face federal charges after police say a drone crashed near the white house. the suspects were given criminal citations and released. this is just the latest incident of drones near white house grounds. in may the secret service stopped someone they caught flying a drone in front. and back in january, a drone operator mistakenly crashed a small device on the ground. the parade of ships happening over the last hour or so in the bay. it's the official kickoff of water events for the weekend which will include ship tours and various piers along the waterfront along with entertainment. and, of course, there will be plenty more going on today as the blue angels take to the skies this afternoon. kpix 5's kiet do has more. >> reporter: and you know, after yesterday's practice runs by the blue angels, not a bad idea to invest in a good set of earplugs. now, this year especially in tech friendly bay area, a warning to leave those drones at home.

dropped out of the race for house speaker yesterday. house republicans are saying there was chaos at front- runner kevin mccarthy dropped out of the race for house speaker yesterday. they are having a closed-door meeting today to try to determine their next step. with mccarthy out. the only declared candidates are jason chaifetz and daniel webster but there is a push to get paul ryan to run for the post. >> paul is looking at it but it's his decision. if he decides to do at the would be an amazing speaker. but he has to decide on his own. >> the next speaker has his work cut out for him. congress has to raise the debt ceiling by the end of the month and pass a budget it's going to be a long weekend for folks in south carolina a week after storms wreaked havoc in the state. more rain is expected. parts of the nearly 260 roads still shut down along with 125

[ laughter ] >> tell us about epilepsy. >> it's not uncommon. we see it in dogs mostly. usually if they have something wrong with their brain when they're born they tend to develop it around 2 to 4 years old. and usually what you guys will see is some sort of seizure activity. and seizures in dogs look very different than seizures in humans. they tend to have a grand mal seizure lay on their side and paddle their legs and may or may not be aware that you're there. they may or may not urinate or defecate. that's usually the most, you

know, big seizure. a smaller seizures staring off into space -- >> i have seen a dog. it's tough on the other than. there's not much you can do. you have to let them go through it. >> it's better not to try to hold them because you can get bit or they could injure themselves in the process. so, um, there are treatments for that. so we put them on different medications depending on the dog and -- but first we want to make sure there are no underlying problems like liver or kidney disease or infection or in an older dog bruin tumor. once we have -- brain tumor. once we have cleared that we start them on antiwith usive medications. >> are they born with it? >> idiopathic epilepsy, is just a fancy word that means we don't know why it happens. dogs born with epilepsy, those are idiopathic epileptic dogs. it can happen at any time. the thing is seizures that are not controlled can lead to death so it's very important if you see a seizure letter vet know right away and then we --
