ght: a a violent struggle over a shotgun after a family feud ends in murder. tonight a 69-year-old bay area woman is dead and her older sister is in jail. good evening. it happened at a home on the 200 block of garretson avenue in rodeo. >>reporter: the the sheriff's department is not officially identifying the victim. i spoke with krisnappa family spokesman in fact it was his own mother-in-law shot to death inside her home early saturday morning following an argument with her own sister. the brown and white corner

house is now the scene of a murder. the sheriff's department said the victim and the alleged murderer are both elderly women. >> total shock. i'm having trouble sleeping. >>reporter: 69-year-old san atom as confirms the victim's own sister 71-year-old linda june thomas of washington state is in jail charged with her sister's murder. suzanne lives across the street and related. she heard from family members that the shooting happened when her husband was in the other room. >> she shot san a and wrestleed with don for the gun. >> they arrested a 71-year-old woman. >> yeah i've met her a few times. >>reporter: the neighbor has known they have for more than four decades. >> they went to church every sunday they taught school on sundays they have been doing that a long time never caused a

problem in the neighborhood. >>reporter: he knew linda as well said there were tensions in recent years over family finances. he also heard the story of a shooting and struggle for the gun from their closest friend and neighbor. >> he grabbed her arm and push it up like this and then the two of them struggled on the floor. i guess the gun went underneath the bed. they were fighting on the floor and i guess he finally called and they busted his front door down. they came into the house. >>reporter: thomas worked at the west county times newspaper for 27 years until she retired in 2006. her husband don is said to be very shaken up and is staying with family members in the sacramento area. >> all right joe thank you. tonight this is just the beginning of what could be a wild winter. rock slides and flooding along roads and winter isn't even here yet. a flash flood warning was in effect in the bay area as thunderstorms rolled through

the vacaville area. the hillsides were badly burned in a wildfire this summer and what little vegetation to hold everything up the rocks came down. there were several small slides along highway 28 near the dam and minor flooding in a few areas. there are no reports of any significant damage and all the roads are open. here's what it looked like as the rain was coming down. amy shot this video outside her home in vacaville this afternoon. you can see the showers were pretty steady for a while but they have mostly dried up. you'll see showers pop up and go a way we've got a few scattered showers fit and something completely different for tomorrow. there were also a few sprinkles in kern county where crews are still digging cars out from under mountains of mud. >>reporter: from the sky you get a better feel for the

impact of thursday's 30 minute torrential downpour where 3 inches of rain turned a dry landscape into a mud pit. leaving 200 cars and 300 people stranded. >> i've been through hurricanes, floods tornados but this is a first for me after 31 years of driving. >>reporter: in that initial river of mud there were dramatic rescues like this one a driver pulling his girlfriend to safety. it's believed everyone trapped in this mess got out but emergency workers are double checking. as quickly as they found themselves stuck getting unstuck is proving tedious. for now all drivers can do is wait and see what's next for the highway that appears to be frozen in time. cbs news los angeles. highway 58 is a major trucking route expected to remain shut down for at least a few more days. firefighters are trying to

determine what sparked a fire that damaged two houses in alameda. broke out before 6:30 tonight near norwich road and sea view parkway. a witness shot this cell phone video from across the water. firefighters had both fires out within an hour and nobody was hurt. well the quakes just keep oncology in san ramon. the largest of the current swarm of quakes struck at about 3:30 this afternoon. it was a magnitude 3.1. there have been dozens of small wakes along the calvares fault near san ramon since wednesday. none of the quakes has been big enough to do any damage. san francisco police will hold a community meeting tomorrow to address a deadly officer involved shooting. a sergeant shot and killed 27- year-old herbert benitez near the twitter headquarterss on mid market thursday. police say he was trying to arrest benitez for throwing bottles in the street. when he fought back and went for the sergeant's gun. they plan to give more details at noon tomorrow at bill graham

civic auditorium. meanwhile san francisco police chief is speaking out about a recent rash of violent crimes involving stolen gus. it's a harder crime to punish than you might think. if someone is caught on the street with a stolen gun. >> they would get a ticket. >>reporter: he explained the cruise on kpix5 sunday morning saying the punishment against on how much the gun is worth. >> since about 47 in november of last year has to be over $950. >>reporter: if it is it's a felony. if it's worthless it's a misdemeanor. stolen guns were used in three recent high profile murders according to police these three known as the drifters are accused of killing two people. cate steinle's alleged killer on peer 14 used the gun taken from a car in the financial district. >> the more i looked at this

victims was swi . a pair of weekend is that right attacks in hawaii could close beaches in oahu. one of the victims was swimming when he was attacked by a 10- foot tiger shark. nearby kayakers pulled him to the shore but he suffered severe injuries to his feet and legs. the second attack happened about 8 hours later to a surfer at waikiki beach. >> for a second i realized it was a massive shark. i pushed him off this ends lost fingers and stuff kinds of punched him with my other. >> cook's friends managed to pull him to shore. besides his fingers doctors also had to amputate most of his left leg. there have been more than half a dozen shark attacks in hawaii this year. it a bitter battle is brewing

the plan say the numbers are off argue it isn't the worth of years construction and reduction of the space. >> this plan isn't going to help flooding. this plan is going to help three inches off the flood we had in 2005. and there are ways to spends our tax money and we're all paying $125 a year in flood tax. they are ways to use that money much more efficiently than this. >>reporter: absentee ballots are out in marin county. it will decide whether or not the flood plans for the park will sink or swim. emily turn he kpix5. >> cruise in union city are still aiming to have this massive sinkhole repaired by tuesday. the pavement gave way on alvarado boulevard last week. workers had to expands the hole to fix the underlying problem before patching the road. it's now about 55 feet wide and 10 feet deep it's blocking traffic in front of the fire station flesh alvarado middle school. more than 26,000 people are still in the dark after a

big power outage on the monterey peninsula. damage to an electric transmission tower brought high voltage lines down this morning. at the height of the outage more than 55,000 customers were affected from caramel to casterville. they hope to have service fully restored sometime tonight. the number of electric cars on the road is growing every day, but it's getting harder to find a place to plug them in. genre moss shows us drivers of getting so charged up a google employee is now stepping in to keep the peace. this is the third busiest tesla charging station. >> we see the station is full here an tesla's selling more cars. so i wonder what it's going to look like in the future. >>reporter: regardless of brands the market for electric vehicles is heating up and so is the competition for time on

. >> from flood warnings to fire weather watch as the winds pick up out of the north northeast over the next 48 hours fire danger increases the humidity plunges the winds will be up to 35 miles an hour and the winds become a factor. there is the north bay for the most part but tuesday and wednesday those winds really pick up. the reason we're concerned is that if a fire does is fight it could spread quickly and the low humidity and high winds right now concord 64 degrees. san jose 62 santa rosa 55. satellite radar shows we've got low pressure over northern california beginning to spin out. triggered some showers and thundershowers over the sierra as well. for us it's going to warm up beginning tomorrow into the mid-70s around the bay. 80 inland and the upper 60s around the coast. low pressure over far northern california essentially heads out of the state we'll get partly cloudy skies tomorrow.

there's still going to be a few lingering showers tonight near the diablo range some of the foothills of the coast range. by tomorrow afternoon it will be dried up. warm up to 85 degrees inland by midweek and shore line remains fairly mild. on the future cast we're looking at cloudy conditions to start the day out with tomorrow going to freed this at 10:00 tomorrow morning. so you can see there's more sunshine in the fort bay than in the south bay. so some low cloudiness lingering residual moisture begins to dry up by later in the day we get a mostly sunny finish to monday. san rafael ridge shower chances end on monday warm trend will begin mid 80s by wednesday. the numbers will be in the 70s in the great valley. warmer ated redding out in the mountains we'll have increasing sunshine an numbers only near 60 degrees little bit of an autumn kill can in the air. overnight lows in upper 50s low 60s sunrise at 7:22.
