busy livermo . police say this is the man who gunned down two people in a busy livermore parking lot think can't find him or the second suspect he was with. >> police say the victims were ambushed as they sat in their car at the arcade shopping center on first street last night. maria medina is there with the search for the suspects. >>reporter: police have not released a motive or the identities of those victims, but they are searching for those suspects as you mention. people here are confident they will be able to find them. >> they are ruthless and evil. this is a quiet town and we

don't have these type of things that happen very often. so we take it very personal when someone comes to our town and commits a crime like this. >>reporter: livermore police identify the man they say ambushed two people in their car saturday as jason brown a man who faces charges of murder and attempted murder. >> it's scary. >>reporter: a few reminders of the brutal attack were left behind at the strip mall. the news is a shock to their normally quiet town. >> my jaw definitely dropped. this is scary. i meet my daughter here all the time. >> not so much that somebody got killed but that he's carrying a semi-automatic or had a dangerous weapon and then disappear. >>reporter: police say after the shooting brown and a second suspect took off. police chased them to oakland before they got away. witnesses got brown's license plate giving investigators the clue they needed to identify him. today investigators searched brown's home in oakland but he was nowhere to be found. >> i thought they would have

got them a lot quicker. i would have thought they would have caught them today if not last night. >>reporter: so police are searching for a black 2006 bmw license plate 5plr682. they have not identify that second suspect one of the victims did survive he was in surgery last night. live in livermore maria medina kpix5. more than a dozen bay area drivers lost their cars. it happened in a parking lot near wrote day a. the tier tracks cars left behind. officers spotted several cars doing doughnuts and burn outs. they swarmed the lot. they ended up impounding 17 cars. drivers doing these stunts are only getting bolder. >> but we've been seeing quite a few of these pop up throughout the bay area.

>> some are as brazen of performing sideshows on the golden gate bridge. it's something we definitely take seriously. >> drivers who had their cars impounded will need to wait 30 days and pay a fine to get them back. new information on a violent car crash that left five people dead in the foothills. one of the cars involved was registered to a bay area address. the crash happened on highway 120 last night near the community of grove land. that is just west of yosemite national park. investigators say a mercedes suv from san jose collided head- on with a nissan maxima. the crash killed the 22-year- old driver of the nissan and left the passenger critically hurt. the driver and three passengers in the suv were also killed. the sole survivor from that crash has been identified as joensuu yang of saratoga. several people recovering

in the north bay after two men intentionally drove their cars into a crowd at a birthday party. happened last night near downtown santa rosa. one person was run over two others were sideswiped all expected to be okay. police say the men were apparently upset with the other partygoers not clear why. one of those drivers has been arrested no word on the other driver. an attorney for the woman suspected of crashing her car into the crowd at the oklahoma state homecoming parade says she may be mentally ill. cbs reporter brian webb has the latest on the driver and the four people who were killed one of them a child. >>reporter: blurry footage shows the moment of impact a hyundai elian take filed through a crowd. stillwater resident adare a chambers was arrested immediately after the accident. she's been charged with driving under the influence. her father says he does not believe she is a drinker. >> she's not a bad person.

she's not an alcoholic. she doesn't drink and she wasn't drinking to my knowledge. >>reporter: graduate student nikita two-year-old nash lucas and 65-year-old retired professor marvin stone and his wife bonnie were killed. another 47 people were injured. >> it's hard to imagine that you're coming to a game and all of a sudden it turns into a tragedy with people losing their loved ones and lives are changed forever. >>reporter: police are waiting on blood tests to determine if change percent was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. brian webb for cbs news. remnants of hurricane patricia are making waves in texas. strong swells off galveston are what's left. floodwaters are starting to recede brian webb shows us it's still dangerous out there. >>reporter: about 2 dozen cars were left stranded in houston's flooded streets sunday.

this man swam to safety after he drove straight into water he says he didn't see. >> he just stood there watched my car slowly disappear. i have to snorkel to get to my car. >>reporter: the recommend man's of hurricane patricia and another weather system combine to dump more than a 50-foot of rain since friday. a homeless man was rescued by boat. officials say the high water rescues were limited. and believe many residents learned lessons from the memorial day storms. that left 2500 cars stranded. >> in houston the water is slowly receding. these stairs leading to a city park in some places 10 feet under floodwaters from the buffalo bayou. >>reporter: raw sewage flooded this roadway as the rain moves out the clean up begins in corsicana, officials are working to repair rails that were washed away and caused the train derailment. other areas of the gulf coast are preparing for rain as the storm moves out of texas and

completion deadline according to a new analysis of the project. the la times reports the state may have underestimated some of the challenges involved. including digging 36 miles of tunnels to the mountains north of los angeles. the project is already behind schedule on land acquisition and financing among other issues. >> it's not even halloween but the postal service is already hanging out the help wanted sign for the holidays. as far as the post office is concerned, the holiday season started last week and it runs through january 8th. the post office is now hiring casual mail handlers processing clerks and big rig drivers to help handle the high demand. president obama says the kids spend too much time tag unnecessary exams at school and he plans to change that. the white house just announced new guidelines for standardized tests. the so-called testing action plan involves voluntary principles for measuring
